Chapter Sixty-Three: Xia Zhi's Report is Out

Xu Bozhou placed the food on the table, his well-defined fingers deftly untying the insulated bag, and the aroma of the food filled the living room.

Su Xiao originally had little appetite, but she couldn't help but be tempted by the smell of her favorite dishes.

The tender crab meat lion's head meatballs looked especially appealing, and were even garnished with scallions. Xu An glanced at the packaging and smiled, his eyes crinkling.

"This place must be hard to book, so it's nice that you remember what Xiaoxiao likes to eat."

She and Su Xiao have similar tastes; they were both spoiled by Xu Bozhou.

"You have no manners." Xu Bozhou glanced at her, then turned around and softened his tone: "What are you thinking about? Come and eat."

He has held a high position all these years, and no one has dared to embarrass him time and time again, whether by talking back or slamming car doors.

This is the first time that Su Xiao has done this.

"Xu Bozhou".

Su Xiao clutched the hem of her clothes, her gaze fixed on him.

He seemed to have dressed up carefully today, with a silver chain brooch pinned to the collar of his stylish black shirt. The two silver rings on his pale fingers were not sharp, but rather like the carefully drawn lines in a traditional Chinese ink painting, neat and elegant.

"I'd like to talk to you about... the Xu family's old factory."

"An old factory?"

He paused, the smile in his eyes fading slightly, and reached out to pull over a chair next to him, tapping the table with his fingertips: "Sit down and drink the soup first, it'll hurt your stomach if it gets cold."

His tone was gentle and unyielding, softly striking Su Xiao's heart.

Su Xiao pursed her lips. She had actually doubted him for a moment, but seeing him like this, the scales in her heart couldn't help but tip in his favor.

Su Xiao sat down hesitantly, watching him push the warm soup in front of her.

The porcelain spoon made a soft sound as it touched the rim of the bowl. She took a small sip from the spoon.

The temperature was just right, and the soup was very flavorful. When I looked up, I met his deep eyes.

"Are you asking about that silk fabric factory that has ceased production?"

Xu Bozhou spoke first, picking up the serving chopsticks and placing a lion's head meatball on her plate.

He had a basic understanding of all of Xu's factories, big and small.

His father's generation had poor investment acumen, and many of their factories went bankrupt. However, the only one that could interest Su Xiao was the silk fabric factory.

"Can I ask what happened first?"

“I asked the Qin family to investigate this before.” Su Xiao handed Xu Bozhou a neatly folded piece of silk from her bag.

It wasn't that she deliberately wanted to hide it from him, but at that time, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that their relationship had completely severed ties.

"Qing came over today to tell me..."

Su Xiao briefly explained what had happened to him.

She paused, then took a sip of soup as if to cover up her feelings, her fingertips hesitantly gripping the spoon handle: "My rejection of you was just... an act for Zhou Moqing to see."

His expression visibly relaxed, his fingertips resting on the edge of the table, and his tone became more serious: "Weekend clearing?"

Xu Bozhou's words were tinged with coldness.

“I don’t know much about this person, but have you ever thought that the Zhou family is your mother-in-law’s maternal family?”

He frowned in disgust at the mention of his mother-in-law.

This group of people comes from a long-established wealthy family. Even if they have a falling out on the surface, they support each other in private.

For them, family ties are far less important than self-interest.

He reached across the dining table, his fingertips gently touching the back of her cold hand. Su Xiao flinched as if burned, but he firmly held her hand down.

"I'll go to the Qin family tomorrow."

His voice was low and reassuring.

"Send me a copy of the surveillance footage. Chen Huai will investigate. Whatever the result, please don't doubt me, okay?"

Su Xiao looked at his serious eyes and nodded slightly.

She was willing to give him another chance.

If this matter really had anything to do with him, he wouldn't need to come looking for her so late.

She sniffed, her voice softening:

"I see."

Xu Bozhou's eyes darkened, and he picked up a tissue to wipe the soup off her lips in a natural and intimate gesture.

“That batch of silk fabric was leftover stock from that year and wasn’t widely circulated in the market. I’ll go check it out again.”

Looking at the warm food in the bowl and then at the seriousness in his eyes, Su Xiao felt the ice in her heart slowly melting.

She picked up the spoon and sipped the tofu soup, the warmth spreading through her stomach.

*

The president's office in the Yan Group building.

Yan Ming sank into the black leather sofa, the leather gleaming with a cool sheen.

He casually crossed his legs, his brow bone was high and straight, and the shadows cast by it made his eyes slightly upturned but covered with a faint weariness. His nose was straight and sharp, and his lips were cold, with only the pale color of his lips showing a bit of fatigue.

The faint blue shadow before them only added a touch of restrained superiority.

On the table in front of me are two medical records, Xia Zhi's. The test results are normal, and the historical issues are clearly written down.

When they went to the hospital, the doctor said that although Xia Zhi's health condition was not very good, there was still a chance of pregnancy, so he didn't need to worry.

But this person was not the doctor who had initially contacted him, and the seeds of doubt began to grow wildly in his heart.

The more flawless it is, the more it resembles a meticulously woven net waiting for him to fall into its trap.

"Knock knock".

The assistant knocked on the door, came in, and placed a stack of supplementary documents on the corner of the table.

"Mr. Yan, these are Ms. Xia Zhi's past medical records that you requested. They have been retrieved from all the top-tier hospitals from high school to the present, with no gaps in the records."

Yan Mingshen didn't look up. His fingertips traced the words "old abdominal injury" on the medical record, his eyes as dark as unyielding ink.

The fleeting panic in Xia Zhi's eyes when she recounted that "accident" was undeniable.

If she's innocent, why is she so afraid of him investigating these things? What exactly is she and the Yan family hiding from him...?

"What happened to the doctor who was replaced?"

He finally spoke, his voice low and hoarse, carrying an undeniable sense of authority.

He tapped his fingertips lightly on the table, the rhythm neither too fast nor too slow.

"Have you found out where he is now?"

The assistant swallowed hard and quickly replied:

"He submitted his resignation a day ago and has now left the city, reportedly going abroad."

“We tried to contact his family, but to no avail.”

"Resign?"

Yan Mingshen scoffed, his eyes flashing coldly as he looked up. He tossed the medical record back onto the table, the paper clattering against the desk with a sharp, jarring sound that stood out starkly in the quiet office.

This group of people really did a very clean job.

He got up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the endless stream of cars below. His back was straight but exuded a cold and hard feeling.

For the past two years, Xia Zhi has always been gentle and docile in front of him.

He didn't believe Xia Zhi would lie to him, but he was even less inclined to believe that this series of "coincidences" would come together.

"Investigate again."

Yan Mingshen turned around, his eyes sharp as if trying to pierce through the fog.

"Check the hospital director, check the doctors who treated Xia Zhi over the past few years, and check the bank statements of the doctor who resigned."

How could something you've done really leave no loose ends?

The assistant quickly agreed, but was about to turn around when Yan Mingshen called him back.
