Chapter Sixty-Two: Clues Point to the Xu Family

Chapter Sixty-Two: Clues Point to the Xu Family

"Miss Su."

He came forward, his eyes sharp yet respectful, and handed over the file folder in a low voice.

"The matter you asked me to investigate has yielded results."

"How about it?"

Su Xiao frowned, feeling inexplicably uneasy.

"Get in the car and we'll talk." Zhou Moqing's voice was still low as he opened the car door and gestured for her to enter.

"……OK."

Su Xiao bent down and sat in the passenger seat. Just as she closed the door, Zhou Moqing placed the file folder on the armrest between them, tapping the opening of the folder with his fingertip.

"The silk fan surface you asked me to investigate last time, I traced its origin by following the fabric's texture, and finally found it to an old factory under the Xu family."

“The factory stopped production three years ago, but the accounts show that the last batch of fabric before the shutdown went to an anonymous account.”

"The Xu family?"

Su Xiao's fingertips stiffened.

But this cloth was clearly snatched from the Yan family by Lin Xi, so how did it become the Xu family's?

"Could there be some misunderstanding here...?"

"I have no idea about that."

On the weekend, Qing touched his nose, took a USB drive from the center console, and plugged it into the car's computer.

"I also had the gallery's surveillance footage restored, and I had technicians recover part of it."

A blurry image flashed on the screen: a figure in a black hoodie casually approached the power distribution room, looking at the painting on the wall.

The location was too far away, so the view wasn't very clear.

“I’ve also checked on this person. He’s from the Xu family, but he went abroad two months ago, around the time your father passed away.”

Her heart felt like it was being gripped by an icy hand, the pain almost suffocating her.

Last night's events and the clues before her eyes intertwined, like an impenetrable net, trapping her in the middle.

When her father passed away, the police concluded that the wiring was old, but she always felt something was wrong. The gallery had been expanding in recent years, and everything that needed to be replaced or inspected had never been missed.

How could such a large fire suddenly start?

Unconsciously, her fingertips dug into her palms, her nails almost embedding into her flesh, and the taste of blood spread in her mouth.

"Does Xu Bozhou know about these things?"

Su Xiao's voice was very soft, with a slight, almost imperceptible tremor.

Xu Bozhou couldn't possibly be completely unaware of the Xu family's affairs.

Zhou Moqing shook his head.

"We haven't found any trace of his involvement yet, but it's impossible for him to be completely unaware of what happened to the Xu family back then."

He looked at Su Xiao's pale face and added.

“Miss Su, if you want to continue investigating, I can dig deeper into the Xu family’s accounts from back then, but… you have to be careful with Xu Bozhou.”

Su Xiao didn't speak, but picked up the file bag, her fingertips tracing the creases at the opening, as if touching an unhealable scar.

Just then, my phone suddenly vibrated, and the words "Xu Bozhou" appeared on the screen.

Su Xiao stared at the name, her finger hovering over the answer button, hesitant to press it.

Seeing her conflicted expression, Zhou Moqing said softly, "If you don't want to answer, I can help you block it."

Su Xiao shook her head, her voice deliberately trying to be calm, but she couldn't hide a slight tremor: "Hello?"

Where?

Xu Bozhou spoke gently on the other end of the phone.

"I'll wait for you downstairs and take you to your favorite Huaiyang cuisine restaurant."

Su Xiao looked out the car window. The glass curtain wall of the Xu Group reflected the sunlight, so bright that she couldn't open her eyes.

She sniffed, trying to make her voice sound normal.

"I have something to do, I'll talk to you later."

After saying that, she hung up the phone hastily without waiting for Xu Bozhou's response.

Her fingertips hung limply on her lap, and the file folder slipped from her hands, falling onto the foot mat with a soft thud.

Seeing her distraught state, Zhou Moqing didn't say anything more.

Do you need me to take you home?

"Need not."

Su Xiao got out of the car, lowered her head, and silently walked to the side. When she saw Zhou Moqing's car slowly merging into the traffic, the expression on her face turned cold in an instant.

The weekend cleaning is a bit too suspicious.

Although she had entrusted the Qin family to investigate the silk fabrics and gallery authorizations.

But she never expected to get such a clear result.

The Xu family isn't stupid; how could they leave such obvious clues?

Even if it really was made by the Xu family's factory, what about the pattern? Can a textile factory draw with a brush?

They treated her like a three-year-old.

However, the factory's situation was indeed suspicious. After thinking it over, Su Xiao decided it would be better to ask the person directly.

Compared to Zhou Moqing, whom she had only met a few times, she was more willing to believe Xu Bozhou.

Even though he did those things to get back into the Xu family, the bond between the two of them is undeniable.

Besides, there's nothing left for him to scheme against her now...

Su Xiao took a taxi back to Luofengyuan.

She dragged her leaden legs to open the door. The motion-sensor light in the entryway didn't turn on for a long time. She stared at the shoe cabinet, too weak to even put on her shoes.

The living room was bathed in warm yellow light. Xu An was curled up on the sofa with half a bag of snacks piled on his lap and the remote control tossed aside, looking just like the owner of the house.

"You're finally back!"

Hearing the noise, Xu An looked up while chewing on potato chips and saw Su Xiao's pale face. He immediately sat up straight and pushed the snacks aside.

"What's wrong, Xiaoxiao?"

She took a few steps closer and reached out to touch Su Xiao's forehead.

"You don't have a fever, is something wrong?"

"Um."

Su Xiao, shuffling in her slippers, tossed the file folder onto the coffee table, her voice so soft it seemed to float in the air:

"The silk fan surfaces in Qing Shuo Gallery on the weekend are from the Xu family's old factory."

She paused for a moment, then looked up at Xu An.

Do you know that factory?

“I do know that, but that factory closed down ten years ago, how could that be…”

Xu An's hand holding the potato chips stopped, and the playful smile on his face vanished instantly.

She stared at the file folder on the coffee table, then glanced at Su Xiao's reddened eyes, and sighed.

"Xiaoxiao, why don't you just ask your uncle? He knows more about the Xu family's businesses than I do."

"Ten years?"

Su Xiao frowned. Ten years ago, the Xu family and the Yan family hadn't fallen to this point. Even if the Yan family had acquired similar silk fabrics, it wouldn't be unreasonable.

But......

Su Xiao's mind was a complete mess; all the clues piled up together, she still couldn't make sense of it.

"I just embarrassed him tonight, he might not help me..."

She took a deep breath, her finger hovering over the dial key, her expression hesitant.

Knock knock knock.

There was a knock on the door. Xu An frowned, got up and walked to the door.

"Who could it be so late?"

She glanced out through the peephole, then turned back to look at Su Xiao with a complicated expression, silently mouthing two words: "Uncle."

Su Xiao's heart skipped a beat for no reason. She hadn't expected that even after she had said those things, he would still be willing to come looking for her.

Xu Bozhou walked in from outside, carrying the packed food, and raised an eyebrow at Su Xiao.

"Since someone absolutely refused to go out to eat with me, I had no choice but to bring the food back with me."
