Chapter 26 Jiang'er stares at An Chenghuan so intently, could it be that she likes him?

Jing Yan not only brought Yue Jiang out, but also her personal maid Qing Ke.

Jingyan called Qingke over and asked her to treat Yuejiang's bruises.

This carriage belongs to Jingyan; it is not only spacious and comfortable but also fully equipped, making it inconvenient to stop during the journey.

While Yue Jiang had Qing Ke apply medicine, Jing Yan picked up a book and started reading, not glancing at Yue Jiang's exposed skin at all.

Yue Jiang would occasionally glance at Jing Yan and realize that he was a very serious person.

Last time, Granny Ye said that Jing Yan took several deep breaths after leaving Qiluan Palace. When she saw her again, her gaze was still indifferent, as if nothing romantic had ever happened between them.

Even as Yue Jiang was treating her knee, he remained seated upright, his eyes fixed straight ahead—truly a piece of rotten wood that was impossible to ignite.

"Hmm!"

Yue Jiang deliberately let out a muffled cry. Before Jing Yan could even turn his head, this startled Qing Ke, who was serving him. She had been very careful.

"Princess, does it hurt a lot?" Qingke stopped what she was doing.

"It hurts," Yue Jiang nodded pitifully, her eyes constantly gesturing to Jing Yan beside her.

Qingke immediately understood and felt guilty: "It's all because I'm inexperienced and have never served the princess with minor illnesses. If only Granny Ye were here, she would have been able to relieve the princess's pain quickly."

"Granny Ye is getting old, and she might even shed tears if she saw me like this. It's good that she's not here. Please apply the medicine for me quickly!"

"I hope the bruises will disappear before I return to the palace, otherwise Granny Ye will start nagging you again for not serving me well."

Yuejiang was very considerate and thought of the barley's needs.

However, these words had a different meaning to Jing Yan. He was the one who brought Yue Jiang out, and he almost made her jump out of the car to commit suicide.

If he hadn't stopped her, she would have been injured in more than just one knee. If anyone should be blamed for not taking good care of Yue Jiang, it would be him.

However, Yue Jiang was treating his leg; if it were elsewhere, Jing Yan would have already had a doctor treat it. He was powerless to do so.

The carriage was quiet for a short while before Qingke began to sob: "This servant also feels sorry for the princess. It's such a big piece. My hands are shaking, and my eyes are blurred with tears. I can't see clearly, and I've made the princess suffer."

Jing Yan: "..."

Just how big was it? Yue Jiang cried for a long time in pain, and even her maid was frightened to tears after just a few glances at it.

He could hear Yue Jiang's muffled groans and Qing Ke's comforting words from time to time, but he remained unmoved, appearing utterly heartless.

Jing Yan could no longer turn the pages of the book in his hands. He could no longer bear the way Yue Jiang and her servant looked as if they were about to die, so he turned to look at them.

"Let me see!"

Jing Yan: "..."

Upon closer inspection, the bruise was found to be no bigger than a copper coin.

"The injury isn't serious, the pain will subside in a day or two, don't cry."

Jingyan offered a few words of comfort and tried to sit up straight again.

Yue Jiang quickly grabbed Jing Yan, feeling "very upset" by his cold attitude: "I was really hurt when I suddenly stumbled, I wasn't pretending."

She admitted that the injury was minor, but it was still very unpleasant to experience suddenly.

Jing Yan didn't refute, but nodded: "I didn't say that, I was just trying to comfort you."

It is likely that Yue Jiang, being a member of the royal family of the Yue Kingdom, was spoiled from a young age, and only treated minor injuries and ailments as if they were major threats.

Jingyan, having grown up in the military, had developed a resistance to ordinary injuries.

Yue Jiang played along, pretending to be comforted, and clung to Jing Yan's arm.

"Your Highness cares about me, and I also want to care about Your Highness. Reading in the carriage is bad for your eyes, so Your Highness, no matter how diligent you are in your studies, please stop reading."

Jing Yan didn't want to show off his diligence; he couldn't just stare at Yue Jiang's legs without finding something to do.

"I'm not reading anymore, sit up straight," he said, then changed his gaze and closed his eyes for a short rest.

When told to sit up straight, Yue Jiang is not one to obey.

She waved for Qingke to straighten her skirt, then tilted her head slightly and leaned on Jingyan's arm.

Jing Yan opened his eyes, and just as he was about to speak, he heard Yue Jiang say lazily.

"Your Highness, please take care of me a little longer. My eyes hurt from crying for so long, and I need to rest. The journey is bumpy, and I'm afraid I'll fall. Your Highness, please keep a close eye on me!"

After that, Yue Jiang remained silent. Her maid moved to a corner stool and sat down. The carriage was quiet except for the rumble of the carriage wheels outside.

Jing Yan's words were stuck in his throat, so he had no choice but to give up on refusing Yue Jiang.

He thought that Yue Jiang was so deeply in love with him, so if he saw An Chenghuan again, he should be able to completely sever ties with him. Even if he regained his memories in the future, he should look forward.

***

An Chenghuan was eager to redeem Yue Jiang. After sending the letter, he set off for the border between An and Jing. Fortunately, he also received a reply from Jing Yan.

They agreed to meet at an inn, and the two groups of people arrived one after the other.

For their own safety, both sides first had their respective people check the surrounding environment.

Because Anguo had wronged Jingguo in the past, An Chenghuan's grandfather tricked Jingyan's grandfather into going to Anguo and detaining him.

In Jing Guo's eyes, An Guo's actions were those of a petty person. Jing Yan hated An Guo and also wanted to use a trick to "lure the enemy into a trap".

"Wei You, tell them that I request that the Crown Prince of Anguo go first."

“Yes,” Wei You accepted the order and rushed forward. Chu Lutong, who followed him, said, “Our Highness invites the Crown Prince of Anguo to go first.”

Chu Lu snorted, "What advanced? Shouldn't we have traveled together? Did your Jing Kingdom sabotage things at the inn to try and harm our Crown Prince?"

Wei You was a straightforward man. When he heard An Guo being timid and using the word "harm," he laughed sarcastically: "Your An Guo is more capable than our Jing Guo in using tricks, so you dare not compete."

"Whether or not Your Highness is invited, if not invited, it shows a lack of sincerity towards our Crown Prince. We can leave it at that."

"Hmph," Chu Lu thought, mindful of his own Crown Prince's desire to bring back Princess Yue Jiang. Jing Kingdom was truly arrogant, so he didn't rashly confront them head-on. He returned to An Chenghuan's carriage before expressing his dissatisfaction.

“Your Highness, Jing Yan’s decision not to go in with you and to let you go first is clearly an insult to you. I doubt he intends to return Princess Yue Jiang to you.”

If An Chenghuan wanted to get Yue Jiang back, he had to lower his stance. He understood Jing Yan's purpose in doing this; he simply wanted to remind them of the shady dealings An Guo had done to Emperor Jing.

He still wanted to try to win over Yue Jiang.

"The purpose of this trip is important. As long as he is willing to return Yue Jiang to Gu," An Chenghuan picked up the scroll beside him and got off the carriage ahead of time, carrying a box.

Just as An Chenghuan got out of the carriage and entered the inn at Jing Yan's request, Jing Yan introduced Yue Jiang to the inn from inside his own carriage.

"Do you see that? That's Crown Prince An Chenghuan of Anguo."

Yue Jiang peered through the small gap in front of the carriage and carefully observed An Chenghuan as he entered the inn.

An Chenghuan wore a moon-white python robe with gold and silver threads, a gold-threaded jade belt around his waist, two openwork jade kylins tied on either side, and a golden crown on his head.

She was handsome and refined, with a gentle and elegant demeanor.

The more Yue Jiang looked at An Chenghuan's face, the more inexplicably familiar she felt. She became so engrossed that she didn't even realize she had gone inside.

Jing Yan felt inexplicably uncomfortable. He raised his hand and waved it in front of Yue Jiang's eyes, his voice slightly cold: "Jiang'er, why are you staring at An Chenghuan like that? Do you like him?"
