Yue Jiang snapped back to reality in an instant, turned her head and saw Jing Yan staring at her with a strange, inexplicable gaze.
It wasn't the kind of suspicion that suddenly arose; it was more like being neglected.
Jing Yan is really funny. Yue Jiang is clinging to him and expressing her feelings for him every day, but he remains indifferent most of the time.
Now that she's staring at other men, he's become very concerned.
"I've only realized how much I love Your Highness after looking at An Chenghuan more," Yue Jiang said, raising her hands to wrap around Jing Yan's forearm with a sincere smile.
Seeing Jing Yan's confused and doubtful look, she moved a little closer to him.
"Your Highness and An Chenghuan are both handsome men, but I love Your Highness's eyes the most. I can see myself in Your Highness's eyes."
Yue Jiang remembered why An Chenghuan looked so familiar earlier. It turned out that An Chenghuan had secretly disguised himself and changed his name to go to the Yue Kingdom as a painter.
She had seen this person in the Moon Palace; they had met several times.
Yue Jiang immediately sensed that the man was extraordinary, especially since he was from Anguo, so she took special care to deal with him.
Not long after, the King of Yue issued an edict to bestow upon her the title of Princess of Yue for a peace marriage. Little did he know that the one who was with him that day was none other than An Chenghuan himself.
Jing Yan didn't expect Yue Jiang to say that, so he turned his face away with a composed expression and said something that wasn't exactly a reprimand.
"Jiang'er is being naughty again."
"Your Highness, besides calling me a fool all day long, do you have any other words to say? You really don't know how to curse. This will only make me more demanding."
Yue Jiang moved even closer, hoping to get Jing Yan to turn around and look at her. She followed his turned face and observed his every move, without showing any sign of impatience.
"Your Highness, only what you call nonsense is not a real argument with me. I'm afraid that if I listen to your words, I won't be able to distinguish between good and bad words from others."
"If I ever offend anyone, Your Highness, please protect me. After all, I am the one Your Highness has spoiled."
Yue Jiang's voice is sweet and clear, with a gentle and languid quality, like a wife casually coquettishly teasing her husband.
Jingyan's left cheek was gently caressed by Yue Jiang's light breaths, like a cool breeze drifting on the river, giving people a refreshing feeling.
He looked back at her and laughed at her for worrying unnecessarily: "You are not only my Crown Princess, but also the Crown Princess of Jing Kingdom. Who would dare to bully you?"
“That’s not necessarily true. Your Highness is clearly bullying me right now, and he won’t even try to coax me,” Yue Jiang said stubbornly, as if mocking Jing Yan’s blockhead.
She just wanted Jing Yan to say some sweet words to her, but little did she know that Jing Yan would flatter her.
"Alright, An Chenghuan has been inside for quite a while now, it's time for him to go in too," Jing Yan said, not wanting to continue arguing with Yue Jiang, otherwise, at Yue Jiang's rate, they wouldn't finish talking even when it got dark.
He pushed open the carriage door, got out first, and then reached out to help Yue Jiang. Yue Jiang sighed noticeably, deliberately letting Jing Yan see it, and then extended her hand to him.
Jingyan acted as if nothing had happened, hoping that after Yuejiang saw An Chenghuan come out, she would not have any expectations of Anguo or An Chenghuan when she regained her memories.
After getting off the car together, the two walked into the inn together. The inn in the border area was not good. The lobby was on the first floor, and the tables and chairs around it were placed in a mess.
The entire hall was filled with the lingering smell of food. The second floor was occupied by guest rooms, and the wooden staircase had cracks and signs of repair due to its age.
Even a light and graceful woman like Yue Jiang could hear a clear creaking sound when walking on it.
Jing Yan led her to a room that Wei You had scouted out earlier.
Guards from both Jing and An countries stood on either side of the room, and Yue Jiang followed closely behind Jing Yan as they entered.
The room was small, and all the unnecessary items had been removed, leaving it as a space for the two parties to talk.
Upon hearing the sound of someone entering, An Chenghuan immediately maintained his politeness: "Hot tea has been prepared for His Highness Jingguo. Why don't you have a cup first?"
"Your Highness Anguo is too kind," Jing Yan glanced at the cup of tea, put his hands behind his back, and sat down opposite An Chenghuan, but he was not interested in the tea in front of him.
An Chenghuan was equally uninterested in Jing Yan in front of him, and instead turned his gaze to Yue Jiang, who had just been behind Jing Yan.
Seeing that Jing Yan had brought Yue Jiang herself, he breathed a sigh of relief and tried to evoke Yue Jiang's memories of him.
"Princess Yuejiang, it's been several months since we last met. Do you still remember me?"
Upon hearing this, Jing Yan paused slightly, then Rong Ying on his left gave him a meaningful look.
An Chenghuan wanted a response from Yue Jiang, but there was no reaction for a long time, and he couldn't see any change in her expression.
He could only smooth things over himself: "I concealed my identity during my trip to Lonely Moon Kingdom, and we only met a few times. It's understandable that Princess Yuejiang doesn't remember me. I'm relieved to see that the princess is safe and sound."
I thought that if I said that, Yue Jiang would respond to An Chenghuan.
Unexpectedly, Jing Yan interrupted, showing concern for Yue Jiang as if no one else was around: "Jiang'er, you must be tired from the long journey. Go to the back and rest first. I will pick you up after I finish discussing important matters with His Highness Anguo."
It wasn't until Jing Yan spoke that Yue Jiang, who had been quiet, showed a slight reaction. She first gave a slight curtsy to An Chenghuan, and then gave a curtsy and nodded to Jing Yan.
He immediately followed the direction behind Jing Yan and went to another cubicle in the room to wait.
After entering the cubicle, besides Qingke, Yue Jiang saw that the strategist Rong Ying, who was accompanying Jing Yan, was also there.
Rong Ying invited Yue Jiang to sit at the table and chairs that had been prepared earlier and poured her a cup of tea.
"Princess Yuejiang, His Highness and the Crown Prince of Anguo have important matters to discuss, which will take a long time. Please have some tea and rest first."
"Thank you for your trouble," Yue Jiang said, taking the tea from Rong Ying and nodding slightly.
Seeing that Yue Jiang showed no signs of distress, Rong Ying went about his own business and pulled down the thick curtains in the cubicle.
After a moment, Yue Jiang felt the noise outside had subsided until it was completely inaudible.
Jing Yan was indeed very cautious; he brought her along but didn't let her listen to the whole thing.
However, she didn't mean to embarrass her ex-fiancé An Chenghuan. It was just that although An Chenghuan said he wanted to redeem her, she didn't know how much confidence or sincerity he had, and it was still uncertain whether Jing Yan would agree.
She also needed to protect herself, and the entire marriage procession needed to survive; at least for now, Jing Yan was treating her well.
The outer room.
Yue Jiang's indifference earlier was acceptable to An Chenghuan, but her response to Jing Yan made him lose face.
But An Chenghuan could imagine that Yue Jiang had been in Jing Yan's hands for more than a month, suffering and being forced to feign compliance with the enemy. Right now, he could only consider the overall situation.
"Your Highness Jing, Yue Jiang is my wife, the Crown Princess of Anguo. She was almost kidnapped by deserters from Fengguo, but you saved her. Anguo is very grateful to Jingguo for your righteous help."
"Now that Yue Jiang is safe and sound, I request Your Highness of Jing Kingdom to return my wife. To show our sincerity, An Kingdom is willing to offer the two prefectures of Dai and Li, as well as the twenty years' worth of silver that Jing Kingdom originally gave to An Kingdom, as a reward."
"Inside are the cession documents for the two states and the document for twenty million taels of silver. His Highness agrees that the two states can be directly handed over to the Jing Kingdom, and the silver will be sent to the Jing Kingdom in installments afterward."
An Chenghuan pushed a black lacquered wooden plum blossom box in front of Jing Yan, showing his sincerity.
