Chapter 78 You're coming with me to the meeting
The car was unusually quiet on the way to the company.
Lin Xi glanced at Song Xu strangely. He looked serious, but his eyes were somewhat vacant, as if he was thinking about something.
Is driving like this a bit dangerous?
"Brother Xu!" Lin Xi called out to him.
Song Xu snapped out of his daze and realized he had gone the wrong way. After turning around, he remembered that Lin Xi had called him earlier. He looked at Lin Xi and asked, "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing," Lin Xi also noticed that he had taken the wrong turn. "What are you thinking about?"
What are you thinking? Luckily, there aren't many cars on the road at this time. She doesn't want to die.
"Do you have any other family members?" Song Xu felt that he didn't know much about Lin Xi. He only knew that she had a grandmother and possibly a missing brother.
Lin Xi paused for two seconds, then said, "My grandmother is my only family now."
"Where are your parents? Why have you never mentioned them before?" Song Xu asked again.
"They..." Lin Xi clenched her fists at the mention of her parents, her chest feeling heavy and her breathing labored, "...dead!"
Song Xu noticed that Lin Xi's mood was off, so he changed the subject and asked, "What do you want to eat for lunch?"
Lin Xi forced herself to calm down, "Anything is fine, I'm not picky about food."
Song Xu remembered that Lin Xi liked spicy and sweet food, so he suggested, "How about spicy hot pot?"
"Okay!" Lin Xi agreed without hesitation.
She quickly put her parents out of her mind; being sad for people who weren't worth it was a waste of her time, and she never wanted to see her parents again.
Spicy hot pot sounds delicious, and she loves spicy food. Unfortunately, her grandma can't eat spicy food, so she never puts chili in her cooking at home. She can only eat spicy food when she eats at the school cafeteria.
Then there were the snacks Jiang Ran gave her, all of them pickled peppers or spicy strips, and of course, various sweet treats.
Song Xu remembered that there was a popular hot pot restaurant near the company.
After parking the car, Song Xu and Lin Xi walked into the hot pot restaurant one after the other. Song Xu asked for a private room for better privacy.
Song Xu can handle some spice, but not much. He ordered a super numbing and super spicy hot pot.
The air in the hot pot restaurant smelled of numbing spiciness. Lin Xi took a deep breath; it smelled good and whetted her appetite.
The hot pot broth arrived, and Lin Xi, looking at the half-eaten, bright red broth, unconsciously swallowed, it looked so delicious.
Song Xu rubbed his nose. Could Lin Xi really eat something so spicy?
The ingredients for the hot pot were served one after another. Lin Xi prepared two bowls of dipping sauces, sesame paste and oil. It was her first time eating hot pot outside. She said that the sesame paste was better, but the oil was even more fragrant. She wanted to try both today.
Song Xu also ordered two desserts to help cool down after the spicy food.
Lin Xi's first bite was of hot pot lamb, dipped in the oil sauce. The taste was numbing, spicy, and fragrant. "It's so delicious!"
If Song Xu can also eat spicy food, then she can make hot pot at home more often.
Is it really that delicious? Song Xu tried to scoop a piece of meat out of the spicy hot pot broth and put it in his mouth. At first, it didn't feel like anything, but after he swallowed it, his mouth and stomach felt like they were on fire.
He quickly drank a mouthful of ice water, but it didn't help; the spiciness brought tears to his eyes.
This was a bit embarrassing, but luckily Lin Xi was only focused on eating and didn't look at him.
Song Xu ate chilled watermelon and drank yogurt, which gradually helped him recover. After that, he never touched anything in the spicy hot pot broth again; he was only fit to eat the clear broth hot pot.
This was the first time Lin Xi had ever enjoyed spicy food so much. She even shed tears and a runny nose, but she just couldn't help continuing to eat.
Her lips were red and swollen from the spiciness, and she ate while wiping away tears.
Song Xu had almost finished eating, so he helped her get some food and watched her eat. "Isn't it spicy?"
Lin Xishaha, "Spicy, numbing, and satisfying."
Song Xu thought she looked so hot; wasn't she just asking for trouble?
Lin Xi finished eating, her eyes were slightly red, her nose was pink, and her lips were bright red.
Song Xu took her hand and walked out of the hot pot restaurant, jokingly saying with a smile, "Looking at you now, anyone who didn't know better would think I was bullying you."
Lin Xi didn't understand what Song Xu meant at first, but after getting into the car and seeing herself in the mirror, she realized what Song Xu was talking about, and her face turned red.
No matter where they went, Song Xu always held her hand, and Lin Xi got used to it in two days.
As they entered the company building, the receptionist greeted them warmly: "Hello, Mr. Song, hello, Ms. Lin."
After asking around all morning, the receptionist finally found out Lin Xi's surname.
Lin Xi smiled and replied to the receptionist, "Hello."
Song Xu nodded with a cold face.
The receptionist was used to Song Xu's reaction; all the company executives were like that, incredibly aloof. Miss Lin was much better—gentle, lovely, and approachable.
All the staff on the seventeenth floor were there today. Some of them left work early yesterday and didn't see Lin Xi, but today everyone was staring at her.
Shu Xi was also there. She saw Song Xu holding Lin Xi's hand, and she almost broke the pen in her hand. How was she any worse than this Lin? Why did Lin take her place?
Song Xu suddenly stopped in the hall. Lin Xi looked at him in confusion. Why did he stop?
"You didn't wipe it clean here." Song Xu raised his hand and used his thumb to wipe Lin Xi's slightly swollen lips, which were soft and tender.
Lin Xi wiped her lips with the back of her hand again, but there was nothing there. Besides, she had looked in the mirror in the car and hadn't noticed anything on her lips.
"Alright, let's go." Song Xu took her hand again and walked towards his office.
After they left, the people at their workstations began to whisper among themselves.
"Is this Mr. Song's girlfriend? She's really beautiful and has a great figure."
"Yes, yes, they look so good together standing next to President Song."
"Did you see Miss Lin's lips? Hehe, they're a little swollen!"
"I saw it! I saw it! Could it be that President Song kissed him? I didn't expect President Song, who seems so abstinent, to be so ruthless in private!"
...
Shu Xi overheard these words and couldn't help but slam her hand on the table. "What right does she have to be President Song's girlfriend? She's nothing but a plaything."
The office hall fell silent instantly. No one dared to respond to Shu Xi's words, but someone happened to have recorded her video.
Song Xu and Lin Xi couldn't hear what was being said outside. As soon as Lin Xi entered the office, she started timing. "President Song, it's 1:30 now. From now on, I'm your part-time secretary."
Song Xu rolled her eyes at her, "You've calculated everything so meticulously. How about we split the bill for lunch?"
Lin Xi blinked. "Huh? Wasn't that just a work lunch?"
"Which company would serve you hot pot for work meals?" Song Xu scoffed.
“I’m doing catering for your girlfriend,” Lin Xi said softly. “If we need to split the bill, I’ll just go back to my apartment and cook for myself next time.”
Song Xu was speechless. A stinky rock is a stinky rock, and it still speaks infuriatingly.
Zhang Qing knocked on the door and came in to remind him, "President Song, you've come at the right time. There's a high-level meeting in the conference room on the 20th floor in ten minutes. Don't forget to attend."
Song Xu grunted in agreement, tossed Lin Xi a notebook and a pen, and said, "You're coming with me to the meeting."
Zhang Qing: What about me?
