Chapter 60 How did you get in?
"I've only memorized half of it; I haven't looked at the rest yet," Lin Xi explained.
"You're going to memorize this whole book?" Xu Wantang looked at her in astonishment, somewhat disbelieving. She flipped to the first page. "Since you've memorized half of it, then recite the first page to me."
Is this for real? Lin Xi loves it when people test her like this, so she can check if she's made any mistakes in her recitation.
She recalled the contents of the first page, then immediately said, "eptance, the terms agreed upon by the offeree..."
Lin Xi's voice was clear and calm, her pace unhurried, and her enunciation clear, like a clear spring flowing into the ears and into the heart.
Xu Wantang's heart calmed down. It had been a long time since she had heard such a reassuring voice, and her thoughts slowly drifted away.
Song Xu and Song Chen stood at the door, listening to Lin Xi recite vocabulary. She was not only reciting words and their definitions, but they were also greatly impressed. They were both hardworking people, but they looked like little brothers in front of Lin Xi.
Lin Xi quickly finished memorizing a page, and then she noticed Xu Wantang was in a daze. "Mrs. Song? I've finished memorizing it."
"Oh!" Xu Wantang snapped out of her daze, closed the book, and put it back in its place. "You're great."
Xu Wantang's gaze towards Lin Xi softened considerably. She smiled and walked inside, reaching the dressing room.
The walk-in closet wasn't big, but it was almost empty, with only a few old clothes of very poor quality hanging inside.
"Are these your clothes?"
Lin Xi nodded, "I only brought a few summer clothes; my autumn and winter clothes are still at home."
"Huh, what are these?" Xu Wantang looked down at several neatly folded clothes in bags.
"Someone left it with me," Lin Xi said without hiding anything, "and asked me to help list it on a second-hand platform for sale."
"Can clothes be sold too?" Xu Wantang knew that valuable jewelry and watches could be auctioned, but she didn't expect that old clothes could also be sold.
“Yes, there’s a good market for it because it’s much cheaper than regular-priced clothes, and bags are the best-selling items,” Lin Xi explained.
Every wealthy person is a potential client, and Lin Xi is extremely patient.
"You can do that?" Xu Wantang exclaimed in surprise. She had given away most of the clothes she bought, even with the tags still on. The ones she liked that she had worn were piled up at home, while the ones she didn't like were thrown away.
“The market for women’s clothing and bags is much larger,” Lin Xi wanted to argue for herself. “If you find it too much trouble, I can post them on the platform for you to sell. You only need to pay me 10% of the selling price as my service fee.”
Xu Wantang was intrigued. She wasn't short of money; she just found selling things this way quite interesting, since she was usually bored out of her mind.
Just as she was about to agree, her phone started buzzing. Xu Wantang took out her phone, glanced at the caller ID, rolled her eyes, and answered the call, "What is it?"
Lin Xi lowered her eyes and waited quietly for Madam Song to finish her call.
“I’m with Xiaoxu. He’s sick, and I need to stay and take care of him,” Xu Wantang said firmly. She seemed a little anxious after hearing what the other person said, and she glanced at Lin Xi. “It’s not convenient for you to come.”
"Okay, okay, I'm going back now. Don't bother Xiaoxu anymore." Xu Wantang finally gave in and hung up the phone angrily.
She had already forgotten about selling things, turned around and walked out, calling out as she went, "Chenchen, come home with Mom."
Song Chen sighed in Song Xu's room. He had clearly promised not to call him that in front of outsiders, how could he have forgotten? How was he going to face Lin Xi in the future?
Song Xu quickly went back to bed, covered himself with the blanket, and looked at Song Chen while suppressing a laugh, "Chenchen, go on, Mom is calling you."
Song Chen said with a dark face, "I can carry you home and let Mom and Dad take care of you together."
"Brother, I was wrong!" Song Xu admitted his mistake quickly and sincerely.
"Hmph!" Song Chen turned and left.
“Mom,” Song Chen said to Xu Wantang at the door, complaining, “Didn’t I tell you not to call me that in public? It’s embarrassing.”
“This isn’t outside,” Xu Wantang rolled her eyes at him. “You’re my son, I can call you whatever I want.”
Song Chen fell silent. It's like a scholar trying to reason with a soldier; there's no way to reason with him. His mother was just that willful, and no one in the family could control her.
Xu Wantang then remembered Lin Xi, and she went back to her. "Little girl, what's your name again?"
"Lin Xi".
“Oh, right, Xixi, I’m leaving Xiaoxu in your care,” Xu Wantang said, she had a good impression of Lin Xi and was quite relieved. “Later, you can give him some fever reducer, the white kind.”
"Give me your phone number, so it'll be easier to contact you later." Xu Wantang took out her phone and waited for Lin Xi to give her her number.
Lin Xi gave her phone number and added, "Mrs. Song, I'm still in school. I'll keep my phone on silent during class. Please don't worry, I'll get back to you as soon as possible."
“Still a student,” Xu Wantang wasn’t too surprised this time. “Okay, I’ll try to call you tonight.”
“Yes, that’s fine.” Lin Xi nodded.
Xu Wantang left with Song Chen, coming and going in a hurry, without even going over to look at Song Xu one last time before leaving.
Song Xu was already used to it, and he lay on the bed waiting for Lin Xi to come over.
He waited for ages but nothing came. He was furious. How come she stopped pretending just because her mother left?
"Lin Xi!" Song Xu called out.
There was no response.
Song Xu sat up, worried that something might have happened to Lin Xi, that she might have fainted somewhere because of her fear of blood.
Thinking of this, he stopped pretending and got out of bed to find someone.
He leaned against the wall and walked to Lin Xi's bedroom door. With a gentle push, the door opened.
"Lin Xi." Song Xu called out, but he didn't hear Lin Xi's reply. Instead, he heard the sound of running water in the bathroom.
It turned out that Lin Xi was taking a shower.
Listening to the sound of water, a scene appeared in Song Xu's mind, a scene that excited him.
He had intended to turn back, but he couldn't walk any further.
Wearing only a pair of pajama bottoms, Song Xu staggered toward Lin Xi's bed.
He got into bed and lay on Lin Xi's pillow, covered himself with the blanket Lin Xi had used, and smelled the scent Lin Xi left on it, which made him even more excited.
Lin Xi had been busy taking care of Song Xu and was covered in sweat, feeling sticky and uncomfortable.
Song Xu drank the water and ate the porridge, so she should be fine for now. She took a shower and then went to give him the medicine. He should be alright then.
After she finished showering, she walked out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. She had forgotten to bring a change of clothes and was going to the dressing room to get her pajamas.
As she passed by her bed, a glance caught her eye and she noticed something amiss. She turned her head and saw someone on the bed.
"Ah!" Lin Xi screamed in fright.
Song Xu poked his head out from under the covers, "What's wrong?"
Lin Xi saw that it was Song Xu and clutched the towel in front of her chest. "You... how did you get in?"
