Chapter 84 Do you have parents?

Chapter 84 Do you have parents?

“Who said it’s time?” Song Xu smiled knowingly. “We’re working overtime today.”

Damn capitalists! Lin Xi looked away and continued practicing her typing.

That's good though, at least she doesn't have to cook dinner tonight, and she should be able to get a boxed lunch if she works overtime.

Song Xu stopped looking at Lin Xi; he had many things to deal with and really needed to work overtime.

School has started, and he still has to attend some classes. In order to balance his studies and career, he has no choice but to work overtime.

But he won't be lonely when he works overtime anymore; he can have Lin Xi come over and keep him company.

As the saying goes, "Working together makes the dream easier." Song Xu now understands this all too well. With Lin Xi by his side, he is extremely efficient and just wants to finish quickly so he can take his beloved woman out to eat.

Without Song Xu's interference, Lin Xi made some progress in her typing practice. Although she couldn't touch type, she had become much more proficient in manipulating the range of her ten fingers.

The office was quiet, with only the sounds of typing and flipping through papers. Suddenly, Lin Xi's phone rang once, then a second time, a third time... and more than ten times in a row.

Lin Xi took out her phone; it was a message from Bai Tiantian.

Bai Tiantian doesn't use punctuation when sending messages; she just uses the send button instead.

Lin Xi read through Bai Tiantian's message from beginning to end; it was about Liu Ting's matter, and there was a result.

Liu Ting was required to write an apology letter and was publicly criticized throughout the school.

This outcome was within Lin Xi's expectations; what she wanted was a public apology from Liu Ting.

Bai Tiantian also mentioned Deputy Director Liu, saying that he had been suspended from his post and that Teacher Wang was temporarily taking over his duties.

This is really good news. Not only is Teacher Wang alright, but he has also been promoted.

Lin Xi looked up at Song Xu. She should thank him properly; without Song Xu, she might have been fired.

Song Xu seemed to sense something, looked up to meet Lin Xi's gaze, and raised an eyebrow, "What's wrong? Who sent you the message?"

Lin Xi smiled and said, "It's Tian Tian. She said there's been a result regarding Liu Ting's matter."

Song Xu nodded. He already knew; the vice principal had sent him the results of the investigation and asked if he was satisfied.

He felt that things should be left unsaid and that he shouldn't cause Lin Xi too much hatred. He was fairly satisfied with the school's handling of the situation.

"Are you satisfied with the result?" Song Xu asked Lin Xi.

Lin Xi nodded. "All I wanted was an apology. Thank you... Brother Xu."

Various nicknames swirled in Lin Xi's mind, but she ultimately chose "Brother Xu" because she couldn't bring herself to call him anything else.

"I'm satisfied." Song Xu lowered his head and continued doing his own thing.

Lin Xi's phone rang twice more; it was another message from Bai Tiantian:

【Xixi, there's some really bad news. You need to be prepared.】

At the bottom was a link, which Lin Xi clicked on. It led to a post on the Jiangda campus forum.

It's a photo of her holding hands with Song Xu, probably taken on campus in the morning.

At first, things were normal because Song Xu was a public figure at Jiang University, attracting a lot of attention and curiosity about her, with many speculating about her identity.

But then someone suddenly released a video, which was a report of Li Sheng causing trouble that day.

Li Sheng held onto her tightly, and all the nasty things he said were recorded.

Jealousy makes people ugly. The comments under this video are getting increasingly nasty, just as foul as the excrement spewed from Li Sheng's mouth.

Some called her a slut, some called her a prostitute, and some guys even asked her how much it would cost to sleep with her for a night.

Lin Xi had never felt so much malice before. She closed her eyes and processed her emotions on her own.

She couldn't imagine what she would face at school tomorrow.

Song Xu noticed that something was wrong with Lin Xi. Her eyes were closed, and her expression was one of pain and unbearable suffering.

What's wrong? Song Xu saw Lin Xi gripping her phone tightly, her hands trembling.

"Xi Xi," Song Xu got up and walked to Lin Xi's side, stroking her hair as he asked, "What happened?"

Don't ask her anything, don't touch her. Lin Xi just wants to be alone right now. If someone cares about her, she won't be able to hold back.

"Xi Xi?" Song Xu forcefully pulled the phone out of her hand. The screen was showing a message from a boy.

[I wonder when Song, the school heartthrob, will get tired of her. Let us guys have some fun too. Just look at that girl's ass, she's sure to be a slut in bed.]

Song Xu's face was icy cold. He read the post from beginning to end and then smashed his phone.

Only after it was dropped did they realize that it was Lin Xi's phone.

Lin Xi was startled. When she saw the shattered phone on the ground, she couldn't hold back her tears any longer.

"Don't cry," Song Xu pressed Lin Xi's head into his arms. "I'll buy you a new phone, and I'll deal with the post. I'll find those who are gossiping and expose them one by one."

Hearing Song Xu say he would compensate her with a new phone, Lin Xi's crying subsided considerably. "I just want to focus on my studies. Why are they so hostile towards me?"

What did she do to deserve this? And the Li family, they just inexplicably started clinging to her out of nowhere, and even caused her grandmother to remain in a coma.

"Because they're jealous of you. That's human nature. Nobody wants you to be successful; they just can't stand to see you succeed," Song Xu comforted her. Even in wealthy families, it's the same; their family is considered good.

“What do I have to be jealous of?” Lin Xi leaned against Song Xu’s chest, pouring out her bitterness. “Besides being good-looking and good at studying, what else do I have?”

Song Xu glanced down at her. If Lin Xi hadn't been crying so hard, he would have suspected she was in Versailles.

“I’ve been beaten and scolded by my biological parents since I can remember. I was never fed or clothed. I had to clean the house, wash the whole family’s clothes, and take care of my younger brother when I was five years old.” Lin Xi became more and more upset as she spoke. She had never told anyone these things before, not even her grandmother.

She has a good memory and experienced a lot in her childhood, so she remembers everything.

Song Xu was taken aback. "You have parents? Where are they?"

“I wasn’t born from a rock, so I must have parents,” Lin Xi said, her tears lessening and her resentment growing as she mentioned her biological parents. “I don’t know where they are because I ran away when I was six.”

"I escaped from the village. I ran all night without daring to stop." The past was vivid in her mind. It was as if she had returned to the age of six, running from the village to the town, and then from the town along the main road to the city. "I only had two steamed buns and a bottle of water, which lasted for three days."

"Why did you run away?" Song Xu was shocked. A six-year-old child had been running away alone for three days. What had Lin Xi gone through?

Lin Xi stopped crying. The painful experiences of her childhood overshadowed her helplessness today. Compared to that, being maliciously slandered didn't seem so serious.

“Because they wanted to sell me,” Lin Xi’s voice trembled slightly, “to sell me to an old bachelor in the next village for 20,000 yuan.”
