Chapter 206 From Now On, You're My Brother
Lin Xi looked at Song Xu in surprise, then remained silent.
Song Xu understood. He touched his face and said, "It's true. I didn't get those two beatings for nothing."
This morning, Lin Xi left halfway through her sentence. Song Xu spent a long time thinking about it, recalling the recent interactions between Lu Yunzhou and Lin Xi, and even comparing their photos.
Lin Xi and Lu Yunzhou have very similar features, and coupled with Lu Yunzhou's sudden change in attitude towards Lu Yunqi, Song Xu had a bold idea in his mind.
He said it casually, but it hit the mark perfectly.
"What is your purpose in concealing the truth?" Song Xu asked, voicing the question that had been on his mind. "And who is Lu Yunqi?"
Lin Xi whispered her background to Song Xu, "We must take revenge on Lu Zhentao and his mistress."
Song Xu was stunned after hearing this. This was too melodramatic. He had known Lu Zhentao for so many years and had only thought that he was violent and couldn't change his gangster ways. He never expected that Lu Zhentao would be so cruel to his wife and daughter. How could he do such a thing?
“You should have told me about this sooner,” Song Xu narrowed his eyes. “I can help our brother.”
"You changed your tune pretty quickly." Lin Xi looked at Song Xu with amusement.
"If I don't have a sweet tongue, how can I marry you?" Song Xu sighed, touching his face. "I don't know how long it will take to recover. I'm in a hurry to meet my mother-in-law."
"I'll take you to meet my mother when I'm discharged from the hospital," Lin Xi said, hoping that Song Xu could gain the approval of his mother and uncle's family. "After telling you this secret, I felt much more relaxed."
"Sweetie, don't bear these things alone in the future. You can always trust me." Song Xu kissed Lin Xi's cheek.
Lin Xi hummed in agreement, feeling reassured.
Lu Yunzhou had been thinking about Lin Xi. Although Zhou Jingming had called him and told him about Lin Xi's situation, he still wasn't at ease unless he saw her in person.
He arrived at the hospital, found the ward, and stood at the door for a long time without knocking. He was afraid that Song Xu was there, and even more afraid that Song Xu would go crazy and start another fight if he saw him.
The door to the ward suddenly opened from the inside. Song Xu saw Lu Yunzhou standing in the doorway and reached out to pull him inside. "Brother, you're here. Come in quickly."
Lu Yunzhou looked at Song Xu in astonishment, "What did you just call me?"
“Brother, from now on you’re my real brother,” Song Xu said as he closed the door. “Xi Xi is waiting for you inside. Go and see her.”
Lu Yunzhou glanced at him, said nothing more, and walked into the ward. He saw Lin Xi lying on the hospital bed with gauze wrapped around her head.
"Xi Xi," Lu Yunzhou bent down and gently touched Lin Xi's head, "How are you?"
"Brother, you're here," Lin Xi said with a smile, patting the hospital bed. "Sit down."
Lu Yunzhou sat on a chair beside the hospital bed, his eyes filled with worry. "Does it hurt?"
"It just feels a little swollen, but it doesn't hurt much," Lin Xi replied. "I knew you would come."
Lu Yunzhou glanced at Song Xu standing next to him, "You told him everything?"
Lin Xi nodded, "He guessed our relationship first."
"Tell him if you want," Lu Yunzhou snorted, "so he won't be jealous and cause me trouble all the time."
"Brother, if you had told me sooner, would I have had to take two beatings from you?" Song Xu said with a smile.
Lu Yunzhou snorted coldly, "You deserve to be beaten. Do you know how much injustice Xixi suffered?"
“It was my fault,” Song Xu said sincerely. “I will give Xixi an explanation.”
"It's good that you understand. Xixi is my own sister. If the timing weren't wrong, I would have gone to have a good talk with your grandfather and asked him what he's up to," Lu Yunzhou said coldly.
“Brother, you’re right.” Song Xu nodded.
Lu Yunzhou glared at Song Xu, feeling a bit uncomfortable with Song Xu's humble demeanor.
"What happened to the woman who hurt you?" Lu Yunzhou asked Lin Xi.
“I should be detained for ten to fifteen days and then released,” Lin Xi explained. “My injuries are not serious, barely qualifying as minor injuries. The other party only violated the law, not committed a crime.”
"She's injured like this, and you call it minor injuries?" Lu Yunzhou said with a sour face. "Once she's released, I'll help you get revenge."
"Brother, that's enough. Just don't do anything illegal anymore." Lin Xi didn't want her brother to get involved in those shady things again.
“Okay.” Lu Yunzhou readily agreed, since he didn’t have to do it himself anyway.
...
After leaving the hospital, Jiang Yan returned to work at the court.
She had barely sat down when the security guard called, saying someone was looking for her.
Without even thinking, Jiang Yan knew who was looking for her. She put down the phone, her expression cold, and got up to walk outside.
Jiang Yan walked to the front gate and saw Xiang Lei's parents.
When Xiang's parents saw Jiang Yan, they waved vigorously at her, "Yan Yan, over here."
Jiang Yan strolled over slowly, glanced at them, and asked, "What are you doing here?"
"Yan Yan, Lei Lei is in trouble. Can you help me get her out of the police station?" Xiang's father's attitude was quite good.
"What happened?" Jiang Yan asked casually, feigning ignorance. "How did you end up in the police station?"
"Jiang Yan, stop pretending," Xiang's mother said sternly. "I don't believe you know nothing. You're clearly very close to that girl named Lin Xi. Would she not tell you?"
"If you're not going to tell me, I'm going back. I'm very busy." Jiang Yan pretended to turn around and leave.
“Yan Yan, wait a minute,” Mr. Xiang glared at Mrs. Xiang, then said in a gentle tone, “Lei Lei accidentally broke the head of that Lin Xi, and then Lin Xi called the police, and the police took Lei Lei away.”
"Lin Xi's injuries have now been assessed as minor, and the police say she will have to be detained for at least fifteen days before Lei Lei can be released."
“You know that Leilei has been spoiled since she was a child. How could she stand being detained? And it would leave a criminal record. There’s no way she can accept that.”
"Yan Yan, you know Lin Xi, can you talk to her properly and let's settle things, even if it's just some compensation?"
"Pay compensation?" Jiang Yan laughed. "Can you afford to pay?"
"It's just a head injury, we'll pay for the medical expenses," Xiang's mother said dismissively. "Her head isn't made of gold, what can't we afford to pay for?"
Jiang Yan snorted, "Lin Xi is staying in a luxury ward in a private hospital. The room fee alone is 10,000 yuan a day. Add the treatment and surgery fees, and it will cost at least 200,000 yuan. If the other party also demands compensation for mental distress, you should prepare 300,000 yuan first."
"What?" Xiang's mother had always thought that her family was relatively well-off and had eaten and used all sorts of good things, but when she heard that the treatment for a concussion would cost 300,000 yuan, she was a little shocked. "Are they sick? It's just a broken head, do they need to go to such a good hospital? Just transfer them to a regular public hospital."
People can laugh when they're speechless. Jiang Yan laughed helplessly and pointed to the park not far away, "There are mirrors in the restrooms in the park, go and look at yourselves."
