Chapter 232 What about my half-sister?
Jiang Hongbo frowned. "What do you mean? Does she not want you to get married, or does she not want you to marry him?"
“She said I didn’t deserve happiness,” Jiang Yan said with a cold look in her eyes when she mentioned her birth mother. “She wanted me to be like her, not loved by men, and to spend all the money I earned on my uncle’s family.”
After hearing this, Jiang Hongbo forcefully pushed his cane over with two loud bangs. "She doesn't deserve to be a mother, she doesn't even deserve to be a human being."
Jiang Yan was startled. She clenched her fist and continued to ask the question that had been on her mind, "I want to know why you divorced her back then. She told me that you cheated on us during the marriage and didn't want us anymore."
"She's talking nonsense!" Jiang Hongbo was so angry that he trembled all over.
He and Jiang Yan's mother were college classmates, and after graduation he started his own small company.
When they first got together, Jiang Yan's mother acted normally, and their relationship was very stable. They got married two years after graduation.
But after the marriage, Jiang Yan's mother changed. She didn't care much about him or Jiang Yan anymore, and focused all her attention on her family.
Back then, he had achieved some success in his career, but Jiang Yan's mother always spent money on her family, and the money he worked so hard to earn was squandered by his brother-in-law.
Jiang Yan's uncle eats and uses better things than him, spends his money and flaunts it in front of him, which makes him very uncomfortable.
Later, when Jiang Yan's uncle got married, he used his money to buy a house and a car. He supported the Xiang family on his own, and they all leeched off him.
Fearing he would be drained dry, he filed for divorce in a fit of anger, parting ways with Jiang Yan's mother. He failed to win custody of his daughter and began paying exorbitant child support every month.
“I severed ties with them because I was afraid they would drain my family dry,” Jiang Hongbo said. “I would be willing to pay 20,000 yuan in child support every month.”
"Twenty thousand yuan in child support?" Jiang Yan's eyes widened in surprise. Twenty thousand yuan twenty years ago was not the same as it is now. "Is it for me?"
“Of course it’s for you. I didn’t win custody, so I can’t raise you myself. I can only give you more child support,” Jiang Hongbo sighed. “Actually, I wanted to take you with me, but you didn’t want to. You cried your heart out and insisted on going with her.”
Jiang Yan sighed, “I was too young back then and she fooled me. She was lucky if she spent 200 out of 20,000 yuan a month on me.”
Jiang Hongbo snorted coldly, "I knew she would spend the money on your uncle, so I gave him more, thinking that since you are her biological daughter, at least she won't mistreat you."
“I wanted to see you many times, but she wouldn’t let me. I could only visit you secretly. I went to your kindergarten, primary school, and middle school.”
"You've been there?" Jiang Yan had never met her father.
Jiang Hongbo nodded. "I'll also secretly send some gifts to your teachers so they can take care of you."
Jiang Yan looked surprised. So that's how it is? No wonder her teachers were so kind to her. She thought it was because she was a good student and well-behaved.
But now that I think about it, it seems that her classmates who were similar to her were not treated the same.
“I originally planned to meet you after you got into university,” Jiang Hongbo said, touching his leg. “But who would have thought that a car accident would not only take away my leg, but also my wealth.”
"The company went bankrupt and I was left with a mountain of debt. Luckily, your aunt didn't abandon me or look down on me. She stayed with me all these years."
Jiang Yan was already sobbing uncontrollably. She regretted her ignorance, her lack of clarity of mind, and that she hadn't come to find her father sooner.
"Why haven't you come looking for me all these years?" Jiang Yan asked, crying.
Jiang Hongbo's eyes reddened slightly. "Dad is just a burden. How could I possibly come to you and trouble you?"
“Dad!” Jiang Yan got up, walked over, and squatted down next to Jiang Hongbo. “I wish I had come to find you sooner.”
“It’s not too late now,” Jiang Hongbo said, raising his hand to gently stroke Jiang Yan’s hair. “It feels like a dream for Dad to see you today. I’m so happy.”
Jiang Yan hugged Jiang Hongbo's leg and cried bitterly, while Jiang Hongbo was also in tears.
Zhou Jingming didn't disturb the father and daughter, and quietly sat aside watching.
She cried for a while, then there was a noise outside the door; someone opened the door with a key.
Luo Guixia packed up her stall and opened the door. Before she even came in, her voice preceded her, "Old Jiang, we had some leftover chicken cutlets and beef skewers today. I bought two cans of beer. Let's have a drink together."
She walked into the house carrying fried skewers and beer. The first person she saw was Zhou Jingming. She paused, took a step back, and looked up at the house number. "That's right."
Luo Guixia came in again, closed the door, and turned her head to see a girl hugging her husband and crying.
She was stunned. Her first thought was that her husband was cheating on her, but then she realized that her husband rarely went out and didn't have any money. Where would he have gone to cheat on her?
"Who are you?" she asked, frowning.
Jiang Yan had almost finished crying when Zhou Jingming helped her up and wiped away her tears with his handkerchief.
“Yan Yan,” Jiang Hongbo wiped away the tears on his face with the back of his hand, “this is your aunt. Her surname is Luo and her name is Luo Guixia.”
Jiang Yan bowed to Luo Guixia and said, "Hello, Aunt Luo, I am my father's daughter, Jiang Yan."
Upon hearing the name "Jiang Yan," Luo Guixia's eyes widened. "Yan Yan? You're Yan Yan!"
Luo Guixia was a little flustered. She wanted to shake hands with Jiang Yan, but when she looked at her own hands, which were a bit oily, she pulled them back. "My hands are dirty. Yan Yan, would you like some fried skewers? Auntie fried them herself."
Jiang Yan's eyes stung a little again. She shook her head and said, "Let me treat you to dinner. Jingming and I haven't eaten either."
“Yes, let’s eat out,” Luo Guixia put the things she was carrying into the refrigerator, then washed her hands, went into the bedroom and took out a few hundred yuan. “It’s Yan Yan’s first time here, Auntie will treat you to a meal.”
Jiang Yan did not refuse; she would pay first once they arrived at the restaurant.
Luo Guixia helped Jiang Hongbo to his feet and handed him his cane. "Old Jiang, let's eat out today."
Jiang Hongbo smiled and nodded, "Okay."
The four of them left the room. Luo Guixia went first, saying, "I'll go in front, Lao Jiang will go in the middle, and Yan Yan, you guys go in the back. If Lao Jiang falls, I can catch him."
Jiang Yan sighed inwardly, thinking that this was what a truly devoted couple should be like. She even envied her father for finding such a wonderful wife as Aunt Luo.
After finally getting downstairs, Jiang Yan suddenly remembered something. "Dad, Aunt Luo, I have a younger sister, right? Where is she? Let's invite her over for a meal."
Luo Guixia waved her hand, "We won't call her today. She's busy making money as a bodyguard."
