Chapter 121 I'll bring Lin Xi out first
After having lunch at the Song family's house, Lin Xi returned to the apartment with Song Xu.
They had just sat down on the sofa to rest when someone rang the doorbell.
Song Xu stopped Lin Xi, who was about to open the door, and said, "You rest, I'll go check."
The door opened, and two police officers stood in the doorway. After showing their badges, they asked, "Excuse me, does Lin Xi live here?"
"What do you want with her?" Song Xu asked coldly.
Why are the police here? What could have happened to Xixi?
Lin Xi heard her name called in the living room. She went to the door and saw two police officers. "I am Lin Xi. May I ask what you need me for?"
"We suspect that you are involved in the deaths of Li Sheng's family. Please come with us to the police station to cooperate with the investigation."
Lin Xi's expression changed upon hearing the police officer's words.
She didn't turn around to look at Song Xu. "I don't even know when his family died, how could it have anything to do with me?"
“We also received an anonymous tip,” the police officer said. “We need you to come to the police station for questioning. Please cooperate.”
Lin Xi looked back at Song Xu helplessly, "I'm going to the police station."
"I'll go with you," Song Xu said to Song Chen while changing his shoes.
Lin Xi got into the police car, and Song Xu drove behind the police. He slammed his fist on the steering wheel, his eyes turning fierce. Who was trying to harm Xi Xi?
Only Li Sheng and Brother Yunzhou knew the truth about Li Sheng's family; Lin Xi had no idea.
In the police car, Lin Xi kept her eyes downcast, staring at her hands, feeling uneasy. Although she was unaware of the deaths of Li Sheng's family, she was still somewhat involved.
Upon arriving at the police station, Lin Xi was taken into the interrogation room, where two police officers questioned her in an extremely oppressive environment.
Do you know Li Sheng and his family?
“I know him,” Lin Xi said, sitting upright and looking directly at the policeman opposite her. “We’ve been neighbors for many years.”
How is the relationship?
Lin Xi shook her head. "Our relationship was just so-so before, the kind where we'd greet each other when we met. But a few months ago, after I got into university, their family insisted on getting married, which caused a lot of unpleasantness. My grandmother even had a brain hemorrhage and was hospitalized, and she's still in a coma."
The police nodded. They had checked and found that Lin Xi had reported the incident to the police a month ago because she was being harassed by Li Sheng.
“We checked the police dispatch records. Li Sheng harassed you at the gate of Jiangbei University, and you called the police. Has he harassed you again since then?”
Lin Xi thought for a moment and nodded, "It happened once, about a week or so after that. He tricked me into going home, and then he and two other men ambushed me at the intersection. Luckily, I had pepper spray with me, so I escaped."
"Why didn't you call the police after this happened?" the police officer asked.
“I’m afraid Li Sheng will retaliate against me again,” Lin Xi explained. “No real harm has been done. At most, he’ll be arrested and detained for a few days and then released. His whole family is unreasonable. My grandmother is in a coma, and I’m all alone at home. I’m scared.”
"You're currently living in the Brilliant Sky City Apartments?" the police officer asked again. "What's your relationship with the man you live with?"
“He’s my employer; I work there as a live-in nanny,” Lin Xi replied.
"Is it just an employment relationship?" the police officer pressed.
Lin Xi glanced at the policeman. "He's my senior, and he's been quite considerate of me."
"Do you know that Li Sheng's family is dead?"
Lin Xi nodded, "I just found out a few days ago. I was packing my things when my neighbor told me. I was shocked when I heard it."
"Officer, I don't know when Li Sheng and his family died. During this time, I was either at my apartment or at school. You can check the surveillance footage."
"Moreover, I have no ability to kill people. I have no money, I don't know anyone, and I can't drive. Someone must be trying to frame me and pin the crime on me."
Seeing that Lin Xi was a little agitated, the police officer reassured her, "Don't get agitated. We won't wrongly accuse an innocent person. No one said you killed Li Sheng. We just called you over to ask about the specific circumstances."
"I'm just a female college student, powerless and without influence. If I had any ability at all, I wouldn't have been bullied like this by Li Sheng's family." Lin Xi's tears fell uncontrollably, and she became more and more upset as she spoke.
“Just because you lack ability doesn’t mean others don’t,” a policewoman asked. “As far as we know, your employer is the grandson of the chairman of Huayue Group and the future successor of Huayue Group. He is quite capable.”
Lin Xi wiped away her tears, looked up and met the policewoman's gaze, and said, "What does his ability have to do with me? I don't understand what you mean."
“Your relationship with your employer doesn’t seem to be clean,” the policewoman continued. “We reasonably suspect that you are using your own resources to entice others to work for you.”
Lin Xi wrote down the policewoman's badge number and name. "There should be surveillance cameras here, right? You'll have to bear the consequences of your rude assumptions."
“I have the right to remain silent in the face of your unreasonable interrogation, and I will wait for my lawyer to arrive.”
After saying this, Lin Xi closed her eyes and mouth, and refused to answer any of the police's questions.
She heard Song Xu making a phone call and believed that Song Chen would arrive soon.
The policewoman deliberately shifted the blame onto Song Xu, and Lin Xi began to suspect that it was Song Xu's rival who was behind it, not targeting her, but Song Xu.
At this moment, she couldn't speak carelessly; the more she said, the more mistakes she would make. The best course of action was to remain silent and wait for Song Chen to come and take her away.
The police had no evidence to prove that Li Sheng's family's deaths were related to her, so they could not detain her.
Despite various threats and inducements from the two police officers, Lin Xi remained silent.
Every second in the interrogation room felt unbearable. Lin Xi clasped her hands together and silently chanted in her heart: Calm down, I must calm down.
Song Xu remained calm outside, but ten minutes had passed since Lin Xi was taken inside, yet it felt like an eternity to him.
Song Chen arrived, and Bai Tiantian came with him.
"Where's Xixi?" Bai Tiantian asked when she saw Song Xu.
"Don't speak yet," Song Chen interrupted Bai Tiantian's question, looking at Song Xu seriously, "Xiao Xu, what's the situation now?"
Song Xu considered for a moment, "Li Sheng was Xi Xi's former neighbor. It seems that his family died, and someone reported that their death was related to Xi Xi."
Song Chen frowned. "Does their family have any grudge against Lin Xi?"
“I know that,” Bai Tiantian chimed in from the side. “Li Sheng came to the school gate and harassed Xixi. I was right next to Xixi at the time, and we even went to the police station once.”
Bai Tiantian recounted the events of that day from beginning to end. After listening, Song Chen glanced at Song Xu and noticed that Song Xu's eyes were somewhat evasive. He narrowed his eyes and said, "I'll go in first and bring Lin Xi out."
