Chapter Ten
Li Nan nodded and said, "Everyone has different views on love. I really enjoy watching movies, and I prefer animated movies to live-action ones."
Because of live-action films, many scenes cannot be filmed, and some actors sacrifice their bodies to make the films better. I know this is dedication and deserves respect.
But if it were me, I probably wouldn't do that. The so-called good and realistic acting shouldn't be achieved by sacrificing the actors' physical health.
Anyway, I think it's understandable to make mistakes. We are all human, not machines. It's normal to make mistakes. Besides, machines also malfunction and break down sometimes.
Some people worry that if artificial intelligence becomes too advanced, it will replace many human jobs, leading to widespread unemployment. Sometimes I also think about this: working so hard to earn money, only to be replaced by machines in the end.
That certainly eliminates the danger of doing this job, but it seems impossible to survive without money. I watched a documentary about it from abroad.
They don't own a house, only a car. They've been unemployed for two years and have been homeless. Watching them, I feel like everyone in this world has their own problems. They are so strong, and they can find joy even in hardship.
Like a bakery owner, if the bread they make each day doesn't sell, it has to be thrown in the trash. Is that considered wasteful? I guess so.
However, if the owner were to have a change of heart and give away all the unsold bread each day for free, the shop would quickly go out of business, because nobody is stupid and nobody wants to lose out.
If you think others can get something for free, why should you spend money to buy it? People who would have bought it before won't buy it anymore.
Even if you distribute bread, if one day you suddenly stop distributing it, some people will come and cause trouble, thinking that if you suddenly stop distributing it, then everything you did before was just a show, and that you have ulterior motives.
The original intention was good, but once it was actually implemented, we realized that human nature is just that terrible. It can't be called bad, but that's how it is.
Humans are inherently averse to being taken advantage of, just like those luxury goods that are specifically sold to the rich, not the poor—niche, accessible luxury.
Xu Weiwei's eyes lit up, and she said, "I know what you mean by that feeling. I'm a seasoned fangirl. I used to really like a little idol. He wasn't very famous, but he was very handsome, and he was a very nice person with a good personality."
Then one day he suddenly became incredibly popular, and that day, I suddenly stopped liking him and felt indifferent towards him. Of course, you could say I had great foresight and predicted his rise to fame.
I discovered that I'm the kind of person who likes to secretly hide treasures. If someone discovers a treasure, then I don't want it anymore.
Anyway, this treasure doesn't really need me anymore; my presence or absence won't have much of an impact on it. I'm dispensable and insignificant.
I realized once again that maybe it's because I've been a live streamer for so long that my personality has changed. I used to be very low-key and liked to hide away where others couldn't see me.
But now, things are different. I want to be someone important, not just some nameless nobody. If I realize I might become insignificant in an event, I'll immediately withdraw.
Li Nan thought for a moment and said, "This might not be a change for you, but rather you've unleashed your true nature and exposed your true self. Your previous low profile was all for self-protection."
Didn't you say you went through a tough period? I bet you were particularly low-key during that time. Is it better to be yourself in a comfortable environment or a repressive one? Of course, the former.
I'm so happy for you that you've found yourself again. I've told you before that I really enjoy observing people, and that's absolutely true. The reason I've been talking to you so much is actually to better observe you.
Everyone is a different individual, and in this lounge, you are the only one who catches my eye and arouses my curiosity to get to know you better.
I didn't say I wanted to be friends with you; I simply wanted to understand you as a case study in my human observation. Besides humans, I also enjoy observing many furry animals, like wolves, lions, and tigers.
I think the most loyal animal in nature when it comes to love is the wolf. Once the wolf king has chosen a female wolf, he will never abandon her, and it is a one-on-one relationship.
I also really like penguins. The cutest thing about them is that they treat us as just bigger members of their kind. Even if we don't speak the same language, they probably think we're mute. And if we're in their way, they'll stand behind us and wait without rushing us. They're very polite.
There are many animals in the world, and it's certainly wrong to make preferences based solely on their appearance. I think the wolf king's love is admirable, but ultimately we are different species.
In ancient times, when humans went hunting in the mountains, they were often eaten by wolves, though humans would also kill the wolves. It's fair to say that from a human perspective, it's wrong for wolves to eat humans; it's too cruel.
From a wolf's perspective, killing wolves is wrong, too cruel. And as a human, I certainly don't support wolves eating people. But what if I were a wolf?
My assumption is invalid because I am human, not a wolf. After observing for so long, I can understand why we don't speak the same language as wolves, tigers, and the like.
We can't have a real conversation; we can only guess and understand the general meaning, and we're prone to guessing wrong. If we could truly communicate, then what would be the difference between plants and animals?
Are we really incapable of understanding plants? Plants do indeed have spirits; I believe that. I once saw an old lady who grew a cherry tree. Every time the cherries it produced were too sour, the old lady would scold it and demand that the cherry tree turn the cherries sweet.
As a result, the cherry trees turned sweet the day after the tree was scolded. You might think this is just a coincidence, but I've seen many similar cases where praising the grapevines results in grapes that taste better.
Do you think these plants can really understand what humans say? I think they probably can, or they can sense emotions and guess the general meaning.
If a person is deaf and someone is cursing at them, the person can sense that the person is in a bad mood and seems angry, but they cannot hear what the person is saying.
Cats and dogs are the same. I know someone who had a cat and doted on it. Later, she got a dog because she loved animals. But less than a month later, the cat committed suicide.
Because the kitten only wanted her exclusive affection, and the puppy also came to the house and received her care, it felt that it was no longer strongly needed. The contrast between its previous state and its current state was huge, and it became very depressed, so it committed suicide.
If the cat doesn't feel her love at all, and there's no connection between them, then its emotional fluctuations shouldn't be so great; it must feel it to react this way.
Cats may only meow, but different meows convey different emotions. People who witness a cat committing suicide may react differently.
Some people will be heartbroken and find it hard to accept this fact, and will never forget it for the rest of their lives. Others, after a brief period of sadness, will get a new cat and forget this bad memory.
Some people might complain that the cat is petty and narrow-minded, and even dares to try to control her. She can decide for herself how many cats or dogs she wants to keep, and no one has the right to make decisions for her.
Trying to threaten suicide? Sorry, it won't work. That self-inflicted injury tactic is so cunning. I never imagined my cat would be like this; I should never have gotten it in the first place.
Some people think that the cat committed suicide because it had a too good life. If it had always lived a hard life, it would have developed a strong mentality and wouldn't have chosen such an extreme way when faced with a little trouble.
Anyway, if she blames the cat, she won't feel she's done anything wrong. It's just a cat dying, no big deal. There are plenty of cats in the world; she can always get a better one.
But actually, the cat didn't have so many ulterior motives. It was just too sad, which is why it committed suicide. It didn't want to live anymore, so it chose to die. There was nothing wrong with it. It had the right and freedom to choose when to die.
I actually think it would be a really scary thing if animals and plants could talk to humans, fully understand each other's meaning, and communicate.
Humans will die if they only drink water and not eat. So, if you knew that the ingredients for the food you eat came from a species that can communicate with you normally, would you still have the heart to actually eat them?
However, those fruits are probably still edible, just like pears growing on a pear tree or apples growing on an apple tree. They're like human fingers and toes; once they're cut off, they'll grow back, it just takes time.
The same applies to fruit. Once picked and eaten, it will continue to grow. If you don't pick it, it will rot or fall to the ground over time. In any case, there's no need to feel guilty about eating fruit.
The disadvantage of trees compared to animals is that they cannot move, but the advantage is that they have a longer lifespan. When accidents happen, trees have no way to escape.
Trees can only resist in place; if they're lucky, they might survive, but if they're unlucky, they're doomed. It seems fair; there are gains and losses, and nothing can be perfect.
There's a saying that humans are the most intelligent of all beings, placing them above other creatures. But is that really true? I think it's not.
I know I am ugly, and my heart is not entirely upright. I also have bad emotions. For example, I feel naturally resistant and disgusted when I see someone for the first time, even if that person has never done anything bad and is a good person who is innocent.
The dislike is so inexplicable, like how positive and negative poles in an electromagnetic field attract each other, while poles that are both positive or negative repel each other and cannot get close. I think that's how my relationship with that person is.
