drying
Gu Anzhou sent Bai Yu a message: [Tell her again that if she's sure she wants to come, I'll drive over to pick her up.]
After sending the message, he got up to change his clothes. When he checked his phone, it said: "[She's already left, bro!]"
So fast?
Gu Anzhou immediately grabbed his car keys and went downstairs. After a couple of steps, he ran into the bathroom and grabbed a new bath towel.
He didn't know where Ye Jia lived, but he figured he should just drive in the direction they came from on their bikes.
The rain was pouring down again, and the windshield wipers were almost overwhelmed. As soon as they finished wiping, the raindrops would obscure the view of the anxious man inside the car.
After driving for a while, he saw Ye Jia. She was sheltering from the rain in front of a shop and making a phone call.
Gu Anzhou parked the car in front of her, leaned over to open the passenger door, pushed it open, and called out, "Get in!"
Ye Jia quickly said something to Chu Nian, hung up the phone, folded her umbrella, and got into the car.
She only realized how wet she was when she sat down, having soaked his car. Just as she was about to say "sorry," a bath towel was placed on her lap.
"Dry your hair." Gu Anzhou noticed she was still holding the umbrella. "Just toss the umbrella in front of you."
"I'm sorry." Ye Jia did as she was told, placing the umbrella in front of her, unfolding a towel to dry her hair, and then drying herself. "When I came out, the rain wasn't so heavy, but it started pouring as I walked."
Moreover, the rain was blown haphazardly by the wind, hitting her from all sides, so her umbrella could only cover a very limited area.
"You're too hasty. I haven't even delivered my message yet, and you've already come out."
Ye Jia said helplessly, "I'm afraid I won't have enough time for my work."
"Okay, let's add each other on WeChat later," Gu Anzhou said, pausing for a moment. "Is your phone only for making and receiving calls? Then leave your number and we can contact each other directly by phone."
Ye Jia glanced at him and said, "Okay."
After quickly wiping the rain off her body, Ye Jia hurriedly started wiping her laptop bag. This bag was specially designed for her laptop and had a high waterproof rating, but seeing that the outside was completely wet, she still thought to herself, "This is bad." Fortunately, it was fine when she opened it, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
Because it was raining heavily outside, the car windows couldn't be opened at all, and it felt a bit stuffy.
Gu Anzhou turned on the air conditioner and said, "Sorry, this car hasn't been driven for a while, so it might smell a bit."
"Hmm? It doesn't smell bad."
"That's good."
"It also has a very refreshing smell." Ye Jia thought it smelled quite nice, just a bit stuffy, but it would be fine once the air conditioner was turned on.
"Hmm, it should smell like lemongrass."
The bar usually relies on daily deliveries for its supplies, but occasionally when he wants to go out, he will drive to the main island by ferry to buy some ingredients that cannot be delivered normally.
Ye Jia nodded. Only then did she notice that his voice was hoarseer than usual, as if he had a bit of a cold. However, he only had a little water stain on his body, probably from getting wet before getting on the bus, which shouldn't be the reason for his hoarse voice.
She suddenly asked, "You didn't go for a run this morning, did you?"
"..."
Gu Anzhou remained silent and did not answer.
"Your voice sounds a little hoarse," Ye Jia said. "You don't have a cold, do you?"
“No.” After a pause, Gu Anzhou added, “It wasn’t raining heavily when I went out, but I caught a bit of a gust of wind when I came back, which is why my voice is a little hoarse.”
"Then you should stop talking."
Ye Jia thought to himself, "He really is undeterred by wind or rain; he has such great perseverance."
Although out of concern, Ye Jia told him to stop talking, but from another, less pleasant perspective, Ye Jia really wanted to hear him say something.
His voice was a bit hoarse than usual, but it also sounded much sexier.
What a sin!
Ye Jia glanced at him from time to time, but most of the time she just looked at his hands on the steering wheel. He drove very steadily, with both hands always on the steering wheel, very properly.
This suddenly reminded her of the times she used to ride in Han Lanchuan's car; his hands were always busy, sometimes conducting the music, sometimes fiddling with something. At the time, she thought he was just carefree and easygoing, but now, thinking about it, she felt a strange sense of irritation.
As Ye Jia passed by the seafood restaurant, he saw the couple standing at the door, seemingly discussing whether or not to open the restaurant that night.
Ye Jia keenly noticed the look in Chun Jie's eyes, which seemed to say, "You really can't be persuaded, can you?"
Ye Jia shifted her gaze back to Gu Anzhou and looked at the other items in the car, trying to find any clues about Gu Anzhou's past, but apart from the fact that the car was very clean, she came to no conclusion.
The car stopped in front of the bar.
Ye Jia was about to get out of the car when Gu Anzhou called out to her, "Wait a minute."
Gu Anzhou got out of the car first, took a large umbrella from the trunk, walked to the passenger side, and opened the door.
He had just noticed that Ye Jia's umbrella was too small and the ribs were not sturdy enough.
Ye Jia got out of the car without getting wet at all and walked into the bar's awning.
This is treatment that only celebrities and aristocrats receive.
As soon as Ye Jia entered, she noticed for the first time that the bar was very soundproof, and she couldn't hear the torrential rain outside.
Gu Anzhou put a chair down on a table: "Sit here, there's a power outlet. Check if the network works first. I'll go get you some clothes to change into."
Just as Ye Jia was about to sit down, she heard this and quickly said, "No need to trouble yourself, I don't need to change my clothes."
"You're soaking wet."
Ye Jia glanced down; she definitely needed to change into something dry. She said she didn't need to, she just felt embarrassed.
"I don't think I have any new clothes. I'll try to find some, but I promise they'll be washed and clean," Gu Anzhou explained to Ye Jia so as not to worry her, and then went upstairs.
But after listening to Ye Jia, he was even more overwhelmed.
Ye Jia had never worn anyone else's clothes before, especially not someone as handsome as him. She sat down, feeling her face burning. She knew it was purely from embarrassment; with her constitution, she wouldn't get sick from just a little rain. But realizing she was shy, her face burned even hotter.
Work! Work!
Ye Jia turned on her computer and tested the network. She felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders; thankfully, the network here was much more stable.
She contacted the client and said she could start anytime.
A moment later, Gu Anzhou came downstairs, bringing a set of pure cotton dark gray loungewear: "Go change in that room."
"That room" is the room Ye Jia accidentally wandered into last time. It contains some things that are not usually used. It is a small warehouse, and Gu Anzhou also uses it as a changing room.
Ye Jia lowered her head, carried the clothes inside, moved quietly, and locked the door as silently as possible.
Ye Jia didn't dare take off her underwear, even though it was wet and uncomfortable.
The clothes Gu Anzhou gave were made of very soft material and had no smell, neither pleasant nor unpleasant, just the natural scent of the clothes themselves.
Ye Jia got dressed, let her hair down, tied it in a knot around her waist with a rubber band, and rolled up her trouser legs several times.
Gu Anzhou saw the door open, walked over, and stared at Ye Jia, who came out with her hair down, for a moment. She looked like someone he had never seen before. Ye Jia always had her hair tied up and looked very energetic, but now she looked a little softer.
Coming to his senses without making a sound, Gu Anzhou reached out to take her wet clothes.
Ye Jia was taken aback and pulled her hand back slightly.
"I'll take it up to dry."
Ye Jia hesitated for two seconds, then, thinking that it was good that she hadn't taken off her underwear, handed it over: "Thank you for your help."
"No." Gu Anzhou stepped up the stairs, only to realize something. When he got to the laundry room, he saw that there were only two pieces of clothing, a top and a bottom. He breathed a sigh of relief, but then wondered if she would be uncomfortable like this.
Gu Anzhou took the hair dryer downstairs, but Ye Jia had already started working and didn't have time to dry her hair or anything else.
Gu Anzhou stood there for a while, trying to get her attention, but he didn't succeed. Seeing that she was already in the zone, he didn't disturb her and just turned the air conditioner on dehumidification mode.
After checking the weather forecast, Gu Anzhou knew he couldn't open the shop tonight, but the arrival of this customer was already keeping him quite busy.
He stood behind the bar, unsure of what to do. He didn't need to prepare any ingredients, and anything that would make noise was out of the question. He wiped the already clean countertop, heated a cup of milk, handed it to Ye Jia, and then decided to go upstairs.
By the time Ye Jia finished drinking her milk, her work was almost finished.
She also felt that her underwear was almost dry, as was her hair, and she felt very comfortable now.
After confirming the test results one last time, Ye Jia closed her laptop and looked at the bar, but didn't see Gu Anzhou.
The shadow of last time has returned.
Ye Jia was afraid of seeing something, so she didn't dare to go looking for him. They hadn't even exchanged phone numbers yet, so she couldn't call him.
After sitting and waiting for a while, Gu Anzhou still hadn't appeared, so Ye Jia had no choice but to stand up.
She went to the door first and looked at the rain outside. It showed no sign of stopping, and the trees across the street were swaying quite a bit. The wind was blowing hard again.
If she wants to go back, she'll have to trouble Gu Anzhou to take her again.
She went to the room, but the door was closed. She knocked a few times and called out, but there was no response. She hesitated for a moment, then gently pushed the door open and peeked in, just like last time. No one was there.
That should be upstairs.
Ye Jia called out several times from the top of the stairs, but there was no response.
Should I go upstairs? Ye Jia was so conflicted, but in the end she decided to go upstairs anyway.
All the rooms were connected and there were no locks. Ye Jia went through a few doors and seemed to hear the sound of a range hood. He breathed a sigh of relief; at least he wouldn't be naked anymore. He wondered if anyone was wearing an apron.
She followed the sound and found Gu Anzhou in the kitchen.
No wonder he couldn't hear himself shouting; the sound of the range hood completely blocked it.
Ye Jia walked over and, seeing that the man who was chopping vegetables hadn't noticed her yet, patted him on the shoulder.
Gu Anzhou immediately pointed the knife at the newcomer, his expression tense, his eyes flashing with ferocity.
Ye Jia was startled and her hand was awkwardly suspended in mid-air before she could even retract it.
"Sorry." Gu Anzhou snapped out of his daze, hastily putting down the knife. The cleaver clattered onto the cutting board with a jarring sound. "I..."
"It's alright, it's alright," Ye Jia said quickly. "Quickly, look at the food in the pot."
Gu Anzhou went over and stirred it a couple of times. The food was fine; he hadn't turned the heat up high, and it was a masamb curry that needed to be simmered slowly.
He turned to look at Ye Jia, his heart pounding. She must be terrified again, and might even think he was dangerous.
"Are you alright?" Ye Jia noticed that his complexion was off and his lips were a little pale, so she quickly asked.
"It's okay... I'm sorry."
Ye Jia gave a slightly relieved smile: "You've already apologized. I also want to apologize to you; I scared you. I called you several times downstairs, but you were so focused on cooking and your voice was so loud that you didn't hear me."
Gu Anzhou was silent for a moment, then hummed in agreement.
"It smells so good." Ye Jia saw that he still seemed to be in a daze, so she changed the subject. "You really have a lot of special spices."
"Yes, we can eat together later."
Ye Jia thought to herself, "Ah!" She had come up here hoping he would take her home.
But when she took out her phone to check the time, she realized it was already dinnertime. Well... okay.
The main reason is that the food he makes looks delicious.
Now that she had taken out her phone, Ye Jia stood next to Gu Anzhou and opened the call: "What's your number?"
