welcome

welcome

Gu Anzhou had seen fierce eyes, cunning eyes, and blood-stained eyes, but he could always handle them. Now, however, he avoided Ye Jia's unfocused gaze.

It seems a bit too late; he shouldn't have asked her to stay for dinner.

She remained silent for a long time, so Gu Anzhou stood up and said, "It seems you should rest. Let me take you home."

"I want to eat." Ye Jia followed his gaze and looked up. "Upstairs?"

"……Um."

Yay!

Ye Jiaqiang perked up, but felt a little dizzy when he stood up. As he followed Gu Anzhou upstairs, he almost fell because he lost his footing. He quickly grabbed the handrail.

Hearing the noise behind him, Gu Anzhou quickly turned around. The stairs were a bit steep, and some of the steps were not the same height. When he first came here, he drank too much one day and almost fell asleep at the bottom of the stairs.

He reached out his hand to Ye Jia, who grabbed it with a "snap." Her palm was burning hot, and it made his hand feel hot too.

Ye Jia had been trying her best to support herself, but after grasping this broad and kind hand, she unconsciously gave up a part of herself.

Gu Anzhou realized from the force she exerted on him that she trusted him. Why? Was it just because of his past identity? He took her thin hand and led her up to the second floor step by step.

When the lights on the second floor were turned on, they were so bright that Ye Jia couldn't open her eyes.

Gu Anzhou pulled her to the sofa: "You rest for a while, I'll go cook. What would you like to eat?"

"Sure, can I lie down for a bit?" After receiving permission, Ye Jia lay down, let go of his hand, raised her arm to cover her eyes, and fell asleep instantly.

Should we still eat this?

Gu Anzhou turned off the living room light again and pulled her arm down, as sleeping with it pressed against her like that would make her eyes blurry and uncomfortable when she woke up. He unfolded a blanket and just as he draped it over her, she pulled it over her head.

That day, when she was sleeping face down, it was the same. As soon as I covered her with a blanket, she covered her head. Later, probably because she couldn't breathe properly, she poked her head out again.

Ye Jia felt that she had slept very soundly, and even had a sense of being buried in the ground.

...

She kicked her foot and opened her eyes. She glanced at the time; it was past one o'clock.

She had just woken up from a dream that lasted until dawn, but thankfully, after sleeping for about half an hour, she felt much better and her fatigue had subsided.

The room was dark and eerily quiet. Ye Jia listened carefully before she could hear the sound of water. She turned on her phone's flashlight and groped her way over. She saw a faint light coming from under the bathroom door, indicating that Gu Anzhou was taking a shower.

Ye Jia found the light switch, turned on the light, and went to the kitchen. She saw that the food was already prepared. Perhaps to avoid disturbing her, no one had turned on the stove. It was just a simple combination of food: a cheese and tuna sandwich, perfect for a bite after drinking.

Ye Jia was very hungry and wanted to eat, but felt it would be impolite not to wait for him, so she leaned against the door and waited.

Gu Anzhou had just finished a mental consultation with himself in front of the mirror when he opened the door and saw Ye Jia. Instantly, he felt that all the communication had failed.

Even though they were several meters apart, Ye Jia, with her excellent eyesight, clearly saw the water droplets on his hair slide down into his collar. He was dressed conservatively; the T-shirt must have been several sizes too big for him to be loose, but you could still vaguely see his muscles.

Gray sweatpants... Ye Jia didn't dare to look at them for long.

"You're going to take a shower now, are you going to take me back later?" Ye Jia asked.

"I thought you were going to sleep until dawn." Gu Anzhou walked towards her while drying his hair, staring stiffly at the floor in front of him. "If you want to go back, I'll take you."

"oh."

What does "oh" mean? Does it mean to reply or not? Gu Anzhou glanced at Ye Jia again, only to see that she still didn't seem to want to say anything, just looking at him with bright eyes. He looked away, walked into the kitchen, and saw two whole sandwiches.

"You didn't eat?"

"I'll wait for you to eat together." Ye Jia walked to his side, just as her stomach growled.

Gu Anzhou pursed his lips: "No need to be so polite with me."

Ye Jia picked up the sandwich, took a bite of the pointed end, and looked up at him: "Then can I sleep here tonight without any hesitation?"

Ye Jia spoke in a lighthearted tone, but her mood wasn't actually that cheerful; she was a little nervous.

There's a chance we might get kicked out.

However, she had already decided that if she was rejected, she would just say she was joking, and her tone did indeed sound like she was joking.

It's questionable whether they can make such a joke given their relationship.

But with a point of reference, Ye Jia vaguely felt that Gu Anzhou had shown her affection, so she shouldn't be mistaken.

"Can."

The answer was affirmative, but compared to Ye Jia's tone, Gu Anzhou's was extremely solemn.

So solemn was Ye Jia's tone that it felt as if he were saying, "Because I serve the people and you look tired, I'll let you stay the night."

But then Gu Anzhou added, "You can come and go as you please, just like those cats."

"Kitty?" Ye Jia repeated unconsciously.

"Mmm, kitty."

The two ate sandwiches as they went out to see the cats. When the weather is nice, the kittens on the island have all sorts of places to sleep, unlike during the last typhoon when many gathered in Gu Anzhou's cat house. Today, there was only one cat inside, Little Orange, sleeping soundly.

"Little Orange comes often, mainly to have extra food."

The cats on the island mainly eat fish. Every time Ye Jia goes to the fishing grounds, she can see the fishermen feeding them fish. There are so many that the cats eat and take some, and they can hardly take them all.

At that moment, Xiao Ju must have heard the words "extra meal" to wake up. She saw two people squatting and staring at her, so she started begging for food in a cutesy voice.

Having just been tapped on the ankle, Gu Anzhou, like a parent who spoils their child, poured out cat food for the kitten.

Amidst the rustling sound, he heard Ye Jia say, "Then I want to be Little Orange Number Two."

Gu Anzhou was taken aback. He put down the cat bowl and looked at Ye Jia. She didn't look at him; her head was down. It was unclear whether she was talking to him or to herself.

But amidst the pounding of the drums, he replied, "Welcome."

Ye Jia immediately turned her head and looked over: "You heard that? You can hear me?"

She was clearly to his left, and her voice wasn't loud, so how did he hear her?

"Yes." Gu Anzhou admitted, "Actually, as long as you speak normally and the outside environment is not noisy, I can hear you even if you are on my left."

After Gu Anzhou finished speaking, he saw Ye Jia's expression change. He thought she was angry that he had deceived her, and he was at a loss. Just as he was about to explain, he saw Ye Jia's relieved expression.

Ye Jia wasn't angry with him, but she suddenly remembered that back in high school, she heard people laugh at her, calling her a loudmouth from the countryside, a country bumpkin, and that no one would pay attention to her no matter how loud she shouted.

She was heartbroken, but now, it's turned out to be a good thing.

However, it was still a little embarrassing that she was overheard referring to herself as "Little Orange No. 2".

"Oh, I see." Ye Jia tried to ease the awkwardness. "I thought I could talk to myself in front of you. If you hadn't said it sooner, you might have heard something even more shocking."

Gu Anzhou paused for a moment: "What's even more incredible?"

"I definitely can't tell." Ye Jia took a big bite of her sandwich, and in sync with the crunching sound of the little orange cat chewing its food, she chewed along too.

She said she wanted to be the second Little Orange, meaning she should come to his house often too. That's already quite something. What else did she want to say?

But... whatever she wanted to say, Gu Anzhou said, "You're welcome."
