After several more heavy snowfalls, the snow outside was already above knee-deep in places where no one was clearing it. In the Mei family's courtyard, only a narrow path had been cleared for people to walk on.
That day, Mei's father, who rarely gets a break, planned to clear the snow from the yard. Mei's grandmother suddenly remembered the idea that Grandma Wang had given her that day.
“Xiao Hua, your Aunt Wang said that if we build a few snowmen, Si Si will find it interesting and might be willing to go out.”
"Snowmen? I'll try building a couple after I sweep the yard later." Dad Mei nodded, thinking it was worth a try.
"Me too!" Mei Liang immediately raised his hand to help when he heard that they could build a snowman in the yard.
"You clear the snow first, and build the snowman later when Sisi goes to sleep." Mei's mother felt that it would be more effective if her daughter didn't know where the snowman came from.
Because of his enthusiastic participation, Mei Liang was dragged by his father to help shovel snow. After the two of them worked hard and were covered in sweat, Ye Si finally fell asleep.
"Xiao Hua, keep your voices down, Sisi is asleep," Grandma Mei said as she walked to the door.
Upon hearing that he could finally build a snowman, Mei Liang immediately darted to the snowdrift.
Grandma Mei thought for a moment, went back into the house and found a large sheet of red paper. She cut out four fist-sized circles and two strips of paper about the length of a palm. With the remaining paper, Grandma Mei used glue to make two pointed hats.
After finishing the food, Grandma Mei went out to deliver it to Grandpa Mei and his son.
There's not much to do in winter except for snowball fights, sledding, and building snowmen.
Mei Liang had built two snowmen but wasn't done playing and wanted to build more. When Mei's father saw that Mei's grandmother hadn't come out to call for anyone, he knew that his daughter hadn't woken up yet.
"Then pile up two more small ones, hurry up, your sister's about to wake up."
"Alright!" Mei Liang skipped off to roll the snowball again.
Mei's father and Mei Liang each rolled two snowballs, one big and one small, and soon the two smaller snowmen were finished.
The two started putting eyes and a nose on the snowman. Since the little snowman didn't have any decorations, Mei Liang decided to give the hats to the two smaller snowmen.
"I'll go find some coal to make eyes and mouths for these two little ones. You go inside first." Seeing that Mei Liang's hands were red from the cold, Mei's father told him to go inside and warm up.
After Coconut woke up, her mother carried her to the window.
"Sisi, look! Look at those four snowmen in the yard!" Aunt Mei asked, pointing to the four snowmen in the yard.
"Ahhhhhh (What kind of creature is this? It looks so strange. Why have I never seen it before?)?" Coconut's eyes widened, and her face was almost pressed against the window.
"This is a new friend in the family, shall we go and see it?"
"Mom... Ahhh..." Coconut hesitated. She wanted to see this new species, but she was also afraid of getting sick if she went out.
As soon as Mei's mother saw Ye Si's expression, she knew that Ye Si was tempted. So Mei's mother simply put on the cotton-padded jacket and pants that she had prepared in advance, and also put on the little cotton shoes that Grandma Mei had specially made for her.
"Look, you're wearing so much, you definitely won't be cold," said Mei's mother, patting her daughter who was bundled up like a ball.
"Put her hat and gloves on. Don't let her ears and hands get cold. Sisi hasn't been outside since the temperature dropped. If she goes out suddenly, she probably won't be able to stand the cold wind." Grandma Mei quickly came over and helped Yesi put on her cotton hat and gloves before she went out.
The coconut shreds were wrapped up so tightly that she felt like she couldn't bend her arms and legs anymore.
Once outside, Ye Si didn't even dare to lift her head at first; she lay motionless in her mother's arms.
After getting used to it for a while, Ye Si found that although it was cold outside, it was still bearable and not as terrible as she had imagined.
"Snow!" Coconut Silk was no longer afraid; the first thing she wanted to do was to see the new creatures.
"How about Sisi walks by herself?" After thinking for a moment, Mei's mother felt that her daughter still needed to overcome her fear on her own.
"Huh?" Coconut didn't quite understand what Aunt Mei meant.
As if her daughter had agreed, Mei's mother put her daughter down, took her little hand, and slowly walked towards the snowman.
Ye Si walked unsteadily, feeling that the "skin" on her body made even taking a step difficult.
Mei's mother didn't rush her, and just helped her take small steps.
When Ye Si approached the new creature, she was already sweating.
Coconut tentatively reached out and touched the creature in front of it.
"Ahhh (Why isn't it moving)?" Coconut looked up at Mei's mother and pushed it again with all its might.
"Crunch!" Using too much force, Ye Si's entire hand sank into the snowman's body.
Startled, Ye Si quickly stepped back, but because she was wearing thick clothes, she tripped and fell to the ground.
"Pfft!" Mei's mother quickly suppressed her laughter, bent down and lifted her daughter up from the ground.
Coconut stood up and walked around the snowman creature. It found the creature to be quite dull. Even though it had poked a hole in the snowman, the creature didn't even think of fighting back.
Coconut shreds decided to test its danger again.
Coconut shreds pushed the snowman again from behind, and sure enough, it still didn't react.
But the coconut flakes discovered something strange.
Coconut flakes: Its skin looks just like the snow on the ground!
"Ah! Snow! Snow?" Coconut suddenly realized, they're all called snow!
Having rested enough, Mei Liang ran back into the yard, intending to play with his younger sister for a while.
"Sis, let me play with you!" Mei Liang picked up Ye Si without waiting for her consent.
"Then play with your sister for a while and then take her inside. I'll go help your grandma make dinner." Mei's mother checked her watch, gave Mei Liang these instructions, and went inside.
Mei Liang looked back to make sure his mother had gone inside, then turned to look at Ye Si with ill intent.
"Let me take you out to play!" Mei Liang picked up the coconut flakes and walked out.
"Huh?" Coconut couldn't understand what this half-grown cub was trying to do.
Outside the gate, apart from a path that everyone had specially cleared for people to walk on, the rest of the area was covered in snow, which was almost up to Mei Liang's waist.
Mei Liang chuckled as he carried the coconut shreds to a deserted spot on the snow, then suddenly let go.
"Plop!" Ye Si fell into the snow, with only her head sticking out.
"Hahahaha! Ahahaha..." Mei Liang pointed at the little head on the snow and started laughing wildly.
"Aaaaaaahhhhhh (You just wait, when I grow up, I'll teach you a lesson)!" Coconut struggled in the snow, trying to get out, but the snow around her was also the same height. Coconut scrambled for a long time, but still couldn't get out.
"Mei Liang! What are you doing? Why are you bullying your sister like this? Your sister just recovered from her illness a while ago. If you make her sick again, your dad will beat you!" Grandma Wang came out when she heard the noise, her face fell, and she started to scold Mei Liang, this little rascal.
Grandma Wang quickly stepped forward and pulled the coconut shreds out of the snow. She patted the snow off the coconut shreds and carried them back to her house.
"Grandma Wang, I'll never do it again. Please don't tell my dad." Mei Liang followed Grandma Wang into the Wang family home, eagerly admitting his mistake.
"Hmph!" Grandma Wang glared at Mei Liang but didn't say anything.
Grandma Wang touched Yesi's clothes and found they weren't wet. She then touched Yesi's little hands and feet, which weren't cold either. Grandma Wang breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that Yesi hadn't been in the snow for long.
