While eating breakfast, Wang's mother noticed bloodshot eyes in her son. She assumed it was because he had been studying too hard and had stayed up late the night before.
"Lou Lou, you don't need to study so hard. You need to get more sleep at night. You can read books during the day too," Wang Ma said, serving her son a bowl of pork rib soup.
Wang Ma: Other families urge their children to study, but in their family, they have to advise their child to study less. Sigh! It's a problem when children study too hard!
"Hmm." Wang Celou paused in his chopsticks and responded softly.
"Sisi, what time are your mom and dad arriving today? I'll go pick them up." Knowing that Meisi's parents were coming today, Wang's father had taken the day off yesterday.
"It's a little after 2 pm, you don't need to go, my brother and I will pick you up."
“Your maternal grandparents are coming this time too, so I have to go. It’s been so many years, and I haven’t had a chance to properly thank them.”
“Yes, we all have to go. Lou Lou has to go this afternoon too. Lou Lou, you should go to school and ask for leave later.” Wang Ma turned to her son and said.
"I asked for leave yesterday." Wang Ce Lou knew that Si Si's family was coming today, so he had asked for leave in advance yesterday.
“We can’t send too many people, my brother’s car won’t be able to fit them all. My third brother called and said that the three of them helped my parents make two trips to get all the stuff onto the train,” Mei Si said, looking up after finishing a rib.
"Why are they carrying so much stuff? They must be exhausted when they get off the bus!" Wang Ma said in surprise.
"It seems my mom couldn't bear to part with her things from home and insisted on bringing them over." Mei thought for a moment, and realized her third brother had mentioned it on the phone.
"You two have everything you need, so why did you move all this way here?" Aunt Wang shook her head and said with a smile.
"Then Lou Lou and I will go with Mei Liang to pick them up this afternoon. You can go to Aunt Mei's and wait with her!" Wang's father thought for a moment, then turned to his wife and said.
After finishing breakfast, Wang Celou planned to go back to his room to sleep for a while. Mei Si tilted her head and looked at Wang Celou's back, feeling that he was acting strangely today.
Mei Si took two large peaches and decided to go find Wang Ce Lou to ask him what was wrong with him today? He hadn't served her any food.
Wang Ce Lou had just sat down on the bed when he heard a knock on the door. When he came out and saw Mei Si, he immediately wanted to turn back and pretend he hadn't heard it.
"Leaking!" Mei Si saw Wang Ce Lou, held two large peaches in one arm, waved to Wang Ce Lou with the other, and shouted.
“…Sigh!” When Wang Ce Lou saw that Mei Si had noticed him, he had no choice but to go forward and open the door to let Mei Si in.
"Eat a peach!" Mei Si said, handing a large peach to Wang Ce Lou's mouth.
"I don't want it, you eat it." Wang Celou shook his head and pushed the peach back.
"Ce Lou, what's wrong with you today? You didn't even put any food on my plate during dinner." Mei Si pulled her chair closer to Wang Ce Lou, tilting her head up to examine his eyes. Her aunt had just told her that Ce Lou's eyes were bloodshot, so she had to take a look.
"No, I was thinking about something." Wang Ce Lou leaned back uncomfortably, putting some distance between himself and Mei Si.
"What are you thinking about? What's troubling you? Tell me." Mei Si moved her chair closer, her legs touching Wang Ce Lou's, and asked him again.
“Even if I told you, you wouldn’t understand. I can handle it myself.” Wang Ce Lou leaned back again, the stool now only supported by its two hind legs.
"Hey, what are you doing? Aren't you tired?" Mei Si stood up, bent over and looked down at Wang Ce Lou, who was sitting like he was performing acrobatics. She didn't understand why he was sitting like that. It must be so uncomfortable.
Mei Si's renewed approach caused Wang Ce Lou to completely lose his balance, and he leaned backward, about to fall to the ground.
Wang Celou had already reached out his hand, intending to use it to support himself and turn over to stand up.
But Mei Si was one step ahead of him. She quickly reached out, put her arm around Wang Ce Lou's waist, and pulled him into her arms.
"..." At this moment, with his clothes thin, Wang Celou clearly realized that his child had grown up, and he should have kept his distance from Sisi long ago. Now, sigh!
Wang Ce Lou kept waiting for Mei Si to let go of him, but Mei Si held him tightly without moving and showed no intention of letting go.
"You can let me go now," Wang Celou said helplessly.
"Oh, you should have said so earlier! I thought you liked this position." Mei Si released Wang Ce Lou and sat back down in her seat.
Wang Celou felt a lump in his throat and decided to get Mei Si to leave as soon as possible; her presence here was truly infuriating.
"I'm going to sleep for a while, you go out and play."
"Going to sleep, do you need me to keep you company?" Mei Si asked kindly.
“…No need!” Wang Ce Lou replied through gritted teeth.
After two years of holding down their posts in their hometown, Mr. and Mrs. Mei finally couldn't sit still any longer and quit their jobs there, deciding to move to Kyoto.
Actually, the couple had their own considerations. Mei Liang had just started his business and was already doing well enough to support himself.
Although Grandma Mei has a pension, it's her own money. The family's living expenses still have to be covered by the couple.
My youngest son is still in school, and there are many expenses. If they come here and can't find jobs, how will the family make a living?
Their daughter is successful and wealthy, but they're healthy and can't possibly let their underage daughter support them, can they? It would be too embarrassing to tell others.
During the Chinese New Year this year, Mei Liang asked his wife to stay in Kyoto to help him look after the shop, saying that the shop was busy and he didn't trust outsiders to help.
Mei's parents agreed, saying they would quit their jobs at the end of the year in their hometown and come over to help.
However, the couple couldn't sit still because their daughter-in-law was pregnant. Pregnant women shouldn't overwork themselves, so all the work in the shop fell on Mei Liang's shoulders. Although Grandma Mei went to help, she was too old to do many of the tasks.
