Chapter 9 Greeting

"Aaaaah, meat!" Coconut was furious. How dare that stupid chicken steal her food!

Coconut Silk raised its foot to kick the chicken, but was picked up by Grandma Mei who came out.

"You brat, all you do is bully your sister!" Grandma Mei glared at Mei Liang and began to soothe the agitated Ye Si.

When Ye Si saw an earthworm, she mistook it for Bu Yaoxing's jumping tendrils. These jumping tendrils are very rare, but they taste delicious, which made Ye Si, who had eaten them once, never forget them.

"Sisi, this isn't for you to eat, it's for the chickens. If the chickens eat it, they'll lay more eggs for you. Sisi, don't you want to eat steamed egg custard?" Grandma Mei moved the coconut shreds further away to make sure she wouldn't harm the chickens again before putting her down.

Grandma Mei gestured and explained, using words that coconut shreds could understand, that the thing was for chickens.

Coconut Silk came to its senses. This wasn't Buyao Star; the creatures here ate different food than the Buyao people.

"Egg! Egg! Egg egg egg!" Coconut Silk loves steamed egg custard; it's her favorite food besides meat.

Ever since she learned that this thing called an insect can make chickens lay eggs, Coconut felt that she had a goal in life: to find insects to make chickens lay eggs, lots and lots of eggs.

At first, Coconut Silk made Mei Liang catch insects, but after a few times, Mei Liang got annoyed and would run away whenever he saw Coconut Silk.

After figuring out how to find the insects, Ye Si started catching them herself when she saw that her little brother was no longer obeying her commands.

Unable to leave the yard, Coconut Flakes searched inside. She found a small iron rod and started digging at the ground.

Coconut Silk worked diligently all day, while Grandma Mei was busy pickling vegetables in the kitchen and didn't go out to the yard, so she didn't know what good things Coconut Silk had done.

When Mei's parents returned home that evening, they found the ground riddled with holes as soon as they entered the yard. The couple looked at the coconut shreds, who were still digging holes, with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.

"Daughter, what are you doing?" Mei's father decided to ask first. He walked over to Ye Si, squatted down, and pointed to the pit in the ground.

“Insects! Chickens, eggs! Eggs, eggs, eggs!” Ye Si roughly understood what Mei’s father was asking. She pointed to the pit and then to the chickens in the yard, and said.

"...Did you find the worm?" Dad Mei asked, wiping Ye Si's sweat with a handkerchief.

Coconut shreds shook its head in disappointment, thinking that the multi-egg plan might not be completed.

"Ahem! You won't find any bugs like that. You won't find bugs in the yard; there are more bugs in the trees." Dad coughed lightly, suppressing a laugh that was about to escape his lips, and patiently explained to his daughter where the bugs were.

Mei's father: My daughter is so patient. She dug so many holes, and even though there were no bugs, she kept digging. She's so persistent. She's sure to achieve great things in the future.

Coconut flakes, kaba kaba eyes, heard but didn't understand.

Just as Mei's father was about to take his daughter outside to tell her where the bugs were, Mei's mother stopped him.

"Stop messing around. Sisi can walk now, and she's already not very pretty. If you tell her there are bugs outside, what if she runs out and gets into trouble if I don't take care of her for a second?" Mei's mother glared at Mei's father, snatched her daughter, and carried her inside.

Mei's father touched his nose, looked at the holes all over the yard, sighed, picked up a shovel and began to fill them in.

That day, Ye Si was sitting at the gate of the courtyard in a daze when she suddenly noticed a white and fleshy adult beast entering Grandma Wang's house next door. Ye Si was a little puzzled, feeling that this adult beast was somewhat familiar.

It wasn't until that night, when Coconut was being held by her father and looked in the mirror, that Coconut realized that the adult beast looked just like her, both being fair-skinned and fleshy.

The next day, Grandma Mei, who rarely had a moment to spare, took Coconut Silk to Grandma Wang's house for a chat.

Coconut noticed that the chubby, white beast was also there. Was this adult beast from Grandma Wang's family? It looked so much like me, so I must be its cub.

When Ye Si was at the Wang family's house, she always kept an eye on Cheng Shou. When Cheng Shou looked over, Ye Si would spin around in front of him.

Coconut thought that this way, the adult beast would recognize that she was his cub.

But even when it was time to go back, the beast showed no intention of keeping her.

Coconut flakes: Didn't you notice? They look so alike, why can't he recognize them?

These past few days, because Wang's father is home, Coconut Silk has been dragging Grandma Mei to the Wang family home every day, and as soon as she arrives, she goes to get close to Wang's father.

Wang Gousheng observed the Mei family girl for several days but couldn't figure out what purpose she had in getting close to Wang's father. Then he thought that the Mei family girl was not even a year old, so he was probably overthinking it.
