Chapter 345 Don't Try to Escape

Chapter 345 Don't Try to Escape

"Don't even think about running away." His voice was gentle, but his eyes were cold.

The two of them walked into the old house hand in hand.

In the living room, Shang Yunmin was chatting with Chi Wenyan. When he saw Ji Wan and Chi Lin come in, he immediately stood up.

"Lin'er, Wanwan, you're here." Shang Yunmin smiled, but his gaze lingered on the blue rose in Ji Wan's hand for a moment, and a hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes.

Chi Wenyan stood aside, still wearing black casual clothes. The wound on his forehead had scabbed over, but was still clearly visible.

Seeing Ji Wan and Chi Lin holding hands, his eyes flickered slightly, and then he returned to his usual calmness.

"Hello, Auntie." Ji Wan greeted politely, then turned to Chi Wenyan, released Chi Lin's hand, and handed him the blue rose. "This is for you, thank you for saving my mother."

Chi Wenyan was obviously stunned for a moment, but quickly took the bouquet and said, "You're welcome."

When Chi Lin saw this, a flash of anger flashed in his eyes, "So the flowers were bought for my uncle?"

There was clear sarcasm in his voice.

Ji Wan looked at him calmly, "Yes, this is the most basic gratitude. If it weren't for him, my mother might have already..."

"Okay, okay," Shang Yunmin interrupted her, "We're all family, no need to be so polite."

She looked at the blue rose in Chi Wenyan's hand, her face a little ugly, and continued: "Wen Yan, put the flowers in the study, don't fill the room with the fragrance of flowers."

Chi Wenyan nodded and turned to leave. Shang Yunmin immediately took Ji Wan's hand and said in a pretended affectionate tone, "Wanwan, are you busy with work recently? You don't look well."

"It's okay," Ji Wan kept smiling, "I just got a big project signed, so I'm a bit worried."

"What project is so important?" Shang Yunmin asked casually.

Chi Lin answered first, "It's a cooperation project with Qihai Group, and Fu Qichuan signed it personally."

Shang Yunmin was surprised. "Fu Qichuan? He's not an easy person to get along with." She gave Ji Wan a meaningful look. "Wan Wan, what special tricks did you use to get Fu Qichuan to sign the contract so readily?"

Ji Wan felt nauseous. Shang Yunmin's hint was exactly the same as Chi Lin's doubt yesterday.

Just as she was about to retort, Chi Wenyan's voice came from behind her.

"Fu Qichuan values ability and sincerity, not anything else." He walked back to the living room, his voice calm but unquestionable, "Ji Wan's proposal is excellent, I saw it with my own eyes."

Shang Yunmin obviously didn't expect Chi Wenyan to speak up for Ji Wan. Her expression changed several times before she finally forced out an awkward smile. "I just asked casually, I didn't mean anything else. If I've offended Wan Wan, I apologize."

Ji Wan nodded slightly, but felt a little surprised and grateful for Chi Wenyan's protection.

"Where's grandma?" Ji Wan changed the subject. "How is she feeling today?"

"Very good, I'm resting in my room." Shang Yunmin replied with a hint of impatience in her tone, "I'll come down after dinner. By the way, Tongtong is here today too. She came here specially to see you."

Ji Wan's heart sank.

Shang Tong is Shang Yunmin's niece and the same age as Ji Wan, but the two have never had any feelings for each other.

In Ji Wan's view, Shang Tong is a spoiled young lady who is arrogant and conceited; in Shang Tong's eyes, Ji Wan is an outsider who has achieved her current status by clinging to wealthy families.

"Really? What a coincidence." Ji Wan responded dryly.

Shang Yunmin seemed very satisfied with Ji Wan's reaction and said with a smile, "Tongtong is helping in the kitchen now. Her cooking skills have improved a lot. Unlike some people who have been married into wealthy families for so long but can't even do basic housework."

This was obviously directed at Ji Wan, but Ji Wan was already used to Shang Yunmin's cold words, so he just responded calmly: "I'm not good at cooking, but I can learn."

"Learn?" Shang Yunmin laughed contemptuously. "Some things are in your bones. You can't learn them just by wanting to. It's like some people. No matter how humble their background is, they can't change their bloodline."

This sentence completely tore through the superficial politeness and pointed directly to Ji Wan's background.

Chi Lin frowned, but did not defend Ji Wan. Instead, Chi Wenyan spoke again.

"Aunt, that's a bit too much." His voice was calm but firm. "Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. One's background cannot determine a person's value."

Shang Yunmin obviously didn't expect Chi Wenyan to speak for Ji Wan again. A trace of embarrassment and anger flashed across her face, but she finally forced a smile and said, "I was just joking. Wan Wan won't mind, right?"

Ji Wan smiled politely, "Of course not." But her eyes turned cold.

Just when the atmosphere was awkward, Shang Tong came out of the kitchen, wearing an apron and looking like a housewife.

"Auntie, the food is ready." She smiled sweetly, and then when she saw Ji Wan, the smile on her face became meaningful, "Oh, Sister Ji is here too."

Shang Yunmin looked at Shang Tong with admiration, "Tongtong is so good, she knows how to help with the housework. Come on, let's go to the dining room, grandma should be coming down soon."

When they arrived at the restaurant, grandma was already sitting in the main seat, looking in good spirits. When she saw Ji Wan, a happy smile appeared on her face.

"Wanwan is here." Grandma said kindly, "Come and sit next to grandma."

Ji Wan walked over, sat down next to his grandmother, and greeted her softly: "Grandma, how are you feeling today?"

"I'm fine, but my legs still hurt a little." Grandma patted Ji Wan's hand. "I heard something happened to your mother yesterday?"

Ji Wan nodded, briefly explained the situation, and then looked at Chi Wenyan gratefully, "Thanks to Wen Yan, my mother is fine."

Grandma also cast a grateful look at Chi Wenyan, "Wen Yan, thank you."

Chi Wenyan just nodded slightly without saying anything more.

Shang Yunmin looked a little unhappy when he saw this scene, but he still maintained a superficial harmony, "Come on, let's start eating. Tongtong, you serve everyone some rice."

Shang Tong stood up gracefully and served food to everyone, but when it came to Ji Wan, she deliberately put very little, almost only half of what an ordinary person would give.

"Sister Ji," Shang Tong said hypocritically, "I heard you were trying to lose weight, so I put less in."

This was obviously a deliberate provocation, but Ji Wan didn't respond. He just smiled and said, "Thank you, that's enough."

Shang Tong refused to give up and continued to provoke: "Sister Ji, I've been studying etiquette recently. I heard that in prominent families, daughters-in-law should serve food to their families to show their elegance and cultivation. Why don't you serve a dish for everyone and let us open our eyes?"

The table suddenly became quiet, and everyone's eyes were focused on Ji Wan.

Shang Yunmin had a secret expectation on his face, as if waiting for Ji Wan to make a fool of himself; Chi Lin frowned, obviously uncomfortable, but did not speak out to defend him.
