Chapter 365: Attending the Banquet Together
The two stood side by side, like a perfect match made in heaven, and instantly became the focus of everyone's attention.
In the crowd, a pair of eyes, filled with obvious gloom and jealousy, were fixed on Ji Wan.
Chi Lin looked at Ji Wan standing next to Chi Wenyan, feeling mixed emotions.
She was particularly charming today, like a dusty pearl that had finally been cleansed of dust and was now blooming with dazzling brilliance.
And this glory was given to her by the man around her.
Chi Lin's nails almost dug into his palms.
Once upon a time, this glory belonged to him.
Now, it was easily taken away by another man.
Someone around recognized Chi Lin, and whispers reached his ears.
"Is that Chi Lin? Is my ex-husband here too?"
"Tsk tsk, now there's something interesting to watch."
"Look at his face, it's so green it's almost dripping with water."
The mocking looks and sarcastic whispers were like needles piercing Chi Lin's heart.
He picked up a glass of wine and drank it down in one gulp. The spicy liquid burned his throat, but it couldn't dispel the depression and jealousy in his heart.
On the other side, Chi Wenyan seemed unaware of the undercurrents around him, and calmly led Ji Wan through the crowd.
He took the initiative to introduce business seniors and potential clients to Ji Wan.
"Who is this?" Chi Wenyan's voice was low and magnetic, and every introduction was just right.
Ji Wan was graceful and handled the situation appropriately.
She was not at all stage frightened, but instead showed amazing communication skills.
Her words were gentle, yet sharp.
Unique and profound insights into industry trends.
It quickly attracted everyone's attention and won a lot of praise.
Those who had originally only exchanged pleasantries with Ji Wan out of Chi Wenyan's respect were gradually won over by her personal charm.
Ji Wan communicated with elites from all walks of life with ease, chatting and laughing, showing a confidence and brilliance that was completely different from before.
She is no longer the timid and cautious clerk.
But she is an independent, confident and radiant woman.
Chi Wenyan looked at Ji Wan who was chatting and laughing in the crowd, and a hint of imperceptible appreciation flashed in his eyes.
She was more outstanding than he had imagined.
As the banquet was coming to an end, Chi Wenyan's cell phone suddenly rang.
He walked aside to answer the phone, his expression gradually becoming serious.
After hanging up the phone, he walked to Ji Wan and whispered, "There's an emergency at the company, and I have to go back and deal with it right away."
Ji Wan was slightly startled, then nodded in understanding.
"Go ahead and do your work, don't worry about me."
Chi Wenyan glanced at her apologetically and said, "I'm sorry, I can't stay with you until the end tonight."
"It's okay, it's more important for you to get back to your work." Ji Wan said gently.
Chi Wenyan raised his hand and gently tidied up the loose hair around Ji Wan's ears.
There was a subtle tenderness in his tone.
"I'll make it up to you after I'm done with this busy period."
A ripple appeared in Ji Wan's heart again.
Chi Wenyan's figure disappeared at the door of the banquet hall.
Ji Wan stood there, watching him leave, the ripples in his heart had not yet completely subsided.
The surrounding noise did not seem to abate, but without Chi Wenyan by his side, Ji Wan felt that he was once again exposed to some invisible scrutiny.
She picked up a glass of champagne and shook it gently, and the amber liquid left a winding trail on the wall of the glass.
At this moment, a strong smell of alcohol and a staggering figure suddenly appeared in front of her.
Chi Lin.
His handsome face was abnormally flushed and his eyes were blurred. It was obvious that he was drunk. The man stared straight at Ji Wan with an ugly smile on his face.
"Wanwan..."
His voice was unclear and sticky from drinking.
Ji Wan subconsciously took a step back, frowning slightly.
The air was filled with the unpleasant smell of alcohol.
"Don't call me that, we don't have any relationship anymore."
Her voice was cold, without a trace of warmth.
Chi Lin seemed not to hear her, but took a step forward and tried to grab her wrist.
"Wanwan, come with me, let's talk, okay? Please."
His movements were clumsy and urgent.
Ji Wan dodged sideways, a hint of disgust flashing in his eyes.
Her tone became even colder, with a clear warning in it.
"Mr. Chi, please respect yourself."
Some people around had already noticed the commotion here and were glancing over vaguely, with an interest in watching the fun.
Chi Lin was stung by her cold attitude, and the alcohol started to take over, causing his voice to rise a little.
"Self-respect? Ji Wan, you're really good at pretending now. Why weren't you like this in front of me before?"
He spoke without thinking and tried to hurt her with his past.
Ji Wan's heart sank suddenly, but his face remained calm.
She didn't want to get entangled with him in such an occasion, and she didn't want to become a laughing stock in the eyes of others.
"I don't want to talk about the past anymore. If Mr. Chi has drunk too much, it would be better for him to go back and rest early."
Her words were like a soft knife, stabbing Chi Lin where it hurt the most.
He looked at the radiant woman in front of him who was cold to him, and the jealousy and resentment in his heart almost swallowed him up.
"You're feeling proud now, aren't you? Just because you've gotten close to Chi Wenyan, you think you can put me under your feet?"
His voice was filled with resentment.
Ji Wan took a deep breath and suppressed the emotions surging in her heart. She didn't want to argue with him, nor did she bother to argue with him.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
She turned around, intending to leave this place of trouble.
Chi Lin suddenly reached out and grabbed her arm again with such force that Ji Wan frowned in pain.
"Don't leave." He growled, the smell of alcohol spraying on Ji Wan's face.
Ji Wan struggled hard, but Chi Lin was drunk and extremely strong.
Her voice finally took on a hint of anger.
“Let go!”
The discussions around became louder.
At this moment, a hand reached out from the side and firmly grasped Chi Lin's wrist.
The force was not great, but it carried unquestionable strength.
He's the security guard at the banquet hall.
"Sir, please let this lady go."
The security guard's voice was calm but powerful.
Chi Lin was stunned by this sudden intervention and subconsciously loosened the strength in his hands.
Ji Wan took the opportunity to pull back his arm, took a few steps back, and created some distance.
There was a red mark on her arm where she had been grabbed.
Chi Lin looked at his empty hands, then at the expressionless security guard, and finally his gaze fell on Ji Wan's cold face. The mixture of alcohol and anger made him look a little embarrassed.
He opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something.
Ji Wan didn't even bother to give him a glance. She straightened her slightly messy skirt, turned around, and walked out of the banquet hall without looking back.
The sound of high heels hitting the ground is crisp and decisive.
Chi Lin was left alone, standing there accepting either sympathetic or mocking looks from those around him, like a clown whose disguise had been exposed.
