Chapter 366: An Unusual Match
Ji Wan walked out of the hotel door, and the cool night breeze blew on her face, making her chaotic thoughts clearer.
The noise and embarrassment just now seemed to be isolated in the revolving door behind him.
She stood by the road, took out her cell phone, and prepared to call a taxi.
Her fingertips slid across the screen, and the cold light of the screen reflected on her calm face.
Soon, a taxi stopped in front of her.
After giving the address, the car merged smoothly into the traffic flow.
The neon lights outside the car window intertwined and shone brightly, but they could not dispel the faint haze in her heart.
Chi Lin's entanglement was like a piece of chewing gum stuck to the sole of a shoe, which was unpleasant.
But what concerned her more was Chi Wenyan's words "compensate you well" when he left.
Is the tenderness in that tone real?
Or is it just another casual affair?
The taxi stopped downstairs of the apartment building.
Ji Wan paid the money and opened the car door.
Walking into the elevator, she looked at herself in the mirror, looking a little tired. Her champagne-colored dress was still elegant, but her mood was no longer as relaxed as before.
When I got home, I kicked off my high heels and walked barefoot on the cold floor.
She threw her bag on the sofa, sank into it, and breathed a long sigh of relief.
At this moment, the phone screen lit up, indicating that a new MMS message had been received.
Unknown number.
Ji Wan clicked it doubtfully.
A photo suddenly appeared on the screen.
The background of the photo also seems to be a banquet hall, with dim and ambiguous lighting.
Chi Wenyan was facing the camera sideways, leaning slightly towards a woman in a red dress.
The two of them were very close and their postures were intimate.
Although he couldn't see the woman's face clearly, Ji Wan felt vaguely familiar with her profile.
Chi Wenyan's face had a gentle expression that she had never seen before, as if he was whispering some sweet words.
The angle of the photo is extremely tricky, full of an ambiguous feeling that is very tempting.
Ji Wan's heart seemed to be suddenly gripped by an invisible hand.
A sour feeling instantly spread from the bottom of my heart and flowed to every part of my body.
Her fingers holding the phone tightened slightly, and her knuckles turned white.
The man who said that there was an emergency at the company and left first, and the man who said that he would compensate her well.
The so-called urgent matter is to have an intimate conversation with another woman?
Ji Wan's mind was a little confused.
She wanted to call Chi Wenyan immediately and ask him what was going on with the photo.
However, when I picked up the phone and found his number, my fingertips hovered over the dial button and I was reluctant to press it.
In what capacity did she ask?
What happened between them was just a deal where both parties got what they wanted. What right did she have to question his private life?
But what about the lingering sourness and depression in my heart?
Ji Wan threw his phone aside irritably, got up and went into the bathroom.
The warm water washed over the body, but it could not wash away the doubts and inexplicable loss in my heart.
She looked at herself in the mirror with complicated eyes.
After washing up, she changed into pajamas and lay down on the empty big bed.
In the darkness, the image of the photo kept appearing in my mind.
Chi Wenyan's leaning posture, the woman's red dress, the ambiguous lighting, every detail was like a needle, piercing her heart.
I tossed and turned and couldn't sleep at night.
It was not until the second half of the night that fatigue finally set in, and she fell into a deep sleep with her mind full of chaotic thoughts.
The next morning, sunlight filtered through the gauze curtains, casting mottled shadows on the floor.
When Ji Wan woke up, his head was still a little dizzy. The chaotic emotions of last night were like settled mud and sand, accumulating in his heart.
She didn't stay in bed.
I got up, washed up, and went into the kitchen.
She needed to do something to dispel the lingering restlessness.
There was low-gluten flour, butter and fresh fruit in the refrigerator that she had bought a few days ago, so she decided to make some cranberry cookies and fruit tarts.
Stir the butter, beat the eggs, sift in the flour, and a faint sweet fragrance fills the air.
She focused on the movements of her hands, trying to temporarily block out the annoying picture in her mind.
The oven preheat indicator light was on, emitting a faint glow.
After putting the carefully prepared snacks into a beautiful paper box, she found the dust bag containing the champagne-colored dress.
The dress has been dry cleaned and ironed, and is in mint condition.
Everything is ready.
She changed into a simple white dress and put on light makeup to cover up the faint dark circles under her eyes.
The woman in the mirror looks calm and distant.
Drive to the downstairs of Chi Group.
The towering buildings reflect a cold luster in the sunlight.
Ji Wan took a deep breath, carried the paper box and dress bag, and walked into the revolving door.
The receptionist seemed to recognize her and, without asking any further questions, pressed the button for her to enter the president's special elevator.
The elevator rose steadily, and her blurry figure was reflected on the metal inner wall.
Reach the top floor.
Outside the president's office, Chi Wenyan's secretary saw her, was slightly stunned, and then showed a professional smile.
"Ms. Ji, you're here. Mr. Chi is inside, please come in."
Ji Wan nodded and pushed open the heavy wooden door.
The office is spacious and bright, with huge floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bustling city skyline.
Chi Wenyan was sitting behind a large desk, looking down at documents. When he heard the noise, he looked up.
He was wearing a well-tailored dark suit and had a focused expression. When he saw it was her, a hint of subtle surprise flashed across his eyes.
The man spoke in a low voice, with no emotion to be heard.
"Here I come."
Ji Wan walked to the desk and gently put down what he was holding.
"Mr. Chi, thank you for your help last night."
Her tone was calm, even with a hint of deliberate politeness.
"The dress is clean. Also, here are some snacks I made as a token of my gratitude."
Chi Wenyan's gaze fell on the exquisite paper box, then moved back to her face.
She looks a little different today.
The usual vague closeness is gone, and there is a clear and visible barrier between them.
"It's just a piece of cake."
He responded calmly, leaning back in his chair and studying her.
Ji Wan seemed unaware of his probing gaze.
"Now that the things have been delivered, I won't disturb Mr. Chi from his work."
She nodded slightly, turned around and was about to leave, her movements quick and decisive, without any trace of reluctance.
Just as she turned around, her wrist suddenly tightened.
Chi Wenyan had stood up at some point, walked around the desk and grabbed her wrist.
His fingers were long and strong, and their warmth came through the thin fabric, carrying unquestionable strength.
Ji Wan's body froze instantly.
She tried to break free, but his grip tightened.
"In such a hurry to leave?" There was a hint of confusion in his voice, as well as a hint that she couldn't understand.
Ji Wan raised her head and met his deep eyes.
Those eyes clearly reflected her slightly embarrassed appearance at the moment.
The bitterness and grievance of last night suddenly came back to me.
