Chapter 527 I'll Decide
Ji Wan hummed softly, picked up the teacup in front of him, and took a sip with an elegant and calm movement.
Her reaction made Chi Wenyan even more uneasy.
He would rather she make a scene and question him hysterically than be as calm as she is now. This calmness makes him feel that he is getting further and further away from her.
"Su Jiujiu's fate is her own fault." Ji Wan put down the teacup, and her voice reached Chi Wenyan's ears clearly. "The Chi Group's reputation will also take time to repair. These are facts that have already happened and cannot be changed."
Chi Wenyan's heart sank a little bit, and he said in a bitter voice: "I know. Wanwan, I will do everything I can to make up for it, as long as you give me a chance."
Ji Wan's gaze fell on his clenched fists, and a faint arc appeared at the corner of her lips. In that arc, there was a hint of sarcasm, a hint of fatigue, and a hint of complex emotions that even she herself could not explain.
"Chi Wenyan," she spoke slowly, each word clearly, "I asked you out today not to listen to your apology, nor to give you any chance."
Chi Wenyan suddenly looked up, a hint of surprise and hurt flashing in his eyes.
Ji Wan looked at him, his eyes unwavering: "The matter of Su Jiujiu has come to an end, and we should settle some accounts."
However, she suddenly realized something important.
Didn't he lose his memory?
Why now...
Ji Wan's gaze was fixed on Chi Wenyan's face, his eyes were no longer calm, but replaced by a hint of incredible confusion and inquiry.
"Chi Wenyan, what do you mean?" Her voice was slightly cold, with a barely perceptible tremor, "Aren't you... amnesiac?"
Chi Wenyan's body suddenly stiffened, he clenched his fists, and his knuckles turned white.
He raised his eyes, complex emotions surging in them, including guilt, pain, and deep love.
"Wanwan, I..." He took a deep breath, his voice so hoarse that every word seemed to be squeezed out of his throat, "I have recovered my memory."
Ji Wan's pupils suddenly contracted, and she stood up abruptly from the chair. The chair rubbed against the ground, making a harsh sound, breaking the original silence in the private room.
"What did you say?!"
She almost yelled, her face turning pale in an instant, her eyes filled with shock and vigilance, "When did you recover?!"
Chi Wenyan also stood up. He wanted to approach her, but the defensive look in her eyes stung him and he stopped where he was. "It was... the day after Su Jiujiu's affair was completely exposed."
His voice was low, filled with unspeakable regret. "That night, I saw you face the media, faced everyone's doubts, and still tenaciously defended me... So many images suddenly flooded my mind, those forgotten memories, like a tide, drowning me."
Ji Wan's heart was beating violently. She stared at him, trying to catch a trace of lies on his face, but the pain and sincerity in his eyes made her feel very confused.
She didn't want to believe it and didn't want to be swayed by him so easily.
"Restore your memory?" Ji Wan sneered, his tone full of sarcasm. "Chi Wenyan, do you think that with such a clumsy lie, you can make me forgive you? And erase those disgusting things you and Su Jiujiu did?"
"Wanwan, that's not the case!" Chi Wenyan took a step forward eagerly, his eyes filled with intense pain. "Su Jiujiu and I have never had any 'affairs'! That was a trap she set up, and she tricked me! I never touched her at all. That night, I woke up in her room because I drank drugged wine!"
"Drug?" Ji Wan's breathing hitched. She bit her lower lip, her eyes filled with emotion. "Is that so?"
"Wanwan, I swear!" Chi Wenyan stepped forward and grabbed her hand desperately. Her hand was cold, but it made him feel a little real. "Do you remember? The first time we met was in the back garden of the Ji family's old house. You were wearing a light blue skirt with a few white magnolias embroidered on the hem. You were reading a book about botany at the time, and you were startled by my sudden appearance."
Ji Wan's body shook violently, and she stared at him intently.
Only the two of them knew these details.
"Do you still remember?" Chi Wenyan continued, his voice trembling.
"On our first date, I took you to a very unassuming French restaurant. There was only one other table in the restaurant, but you said it was the most delicious meal you had ever had. Do you remember what dessert we ordered? It was crème brûlée. You broke the caramel on top and ate it bit by bit."
Ji Wan's eyes instantly turned red, and she felt her heart being tightly gripped.
These were forgotten memories that only the two of them could share.
"Do you remember where I first confessed my love to you?" Chi Wenyan's eyes locked onto her face, his eyes filled with pleading and pain. "It was in the cafe downstairs from your company. I was so nervous that my palms were sweating, but you smiled and said to me, 'Wenyan, do you like me?'"
Ji Wan's tears finally burst out of his eyes and slid down his cheeks.
She pulled her hand back abruptly, but then fiercely grabbed Chi Wenyan's collar and pulled him closer to her. Her voice was filled with tears, anger, and trembling: "Chi Wenyan! Why didn't you tell me earlier! Why didn't you tell me earlier!"
"I..." Chi Wenyan's eyes also turned red. He hugged her tightly, holding her soft body in his arms, his chin resting on the top of her head, his voice choked with sobs.
"I'm afraid you won't believe me. I'm afraid you don't want to hear my explanation at all. I'm afraid I'll never see you again."
He hugged her so tightly, as if he wanted to rub her into his bones and blood.
Ji Wan's tears were like beads that had broken off the string, wetting his shirt.
All the grievances, all the pain, all the misunderstandings, at this moment, turned into tears that burst forth.
She hugged him back tightly, her nails almost digging into his flesh, but she didn't feel any pain.
"You bastard!" She pounded his chest, her voice filled with tears and anger. "Do you know how sad I am? Do you know how much I miss you?"
"I deserve to die, I deserve to die!" Chi Wenyan kissed her hair, his voice filled with regret and self-blame, "Wanwan, I'm sorry, I was wrong, I was really wrong."
The two hugged each other tightly. In the silent private room, the only sounds were Ji Wan's suppressed crying and Chi Wenyan's low apology.
All the misunderstandings disappeared at this moment, replaced by the joy of reunion and the deep affection of meeting again after a long separation.
After a long time, Ji Wan raised his head from his arms, his eyes were red and swollen like two walnuts.
