Chapter 533 Why is he here?
Ji Wan looked up suddenly, and when he saw who it was, he froze.
Chi Wenyan!
How come he is here?!
He was wearing a dark suit, standing tall and with a stern face. Following behind him was a middle-aged man who looked very capable, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and carrying a briefcase.
"Who are you? This is an interrogation room, you can't just come in!"
The young policeman stood up immediately with a serious tone.
Chi Wenyan's gaze passed over him and fell on Ji Wan. Seeing that her face was a little pale, his brows unconsciously frowned.
He turned to the older officer and said, "I am Ji Wan's husband, Chi Wenyan. This is my lawyer, Attorney Zhang. I request that the questioning of my wife be stopped immediately. All subsequent matters will be handled by my lawyer in conjunction with the police."
His tone was calm, yet it carried an unquestionable power.
The older policeman obviously recognized Chi Wenyan. After all, he was a famous figure in the business community of City A. He was slightly startled: "Mr. Chi, we are just conducting routine inquiries. Miss Ji is an important party..."
"My client was frightened and she is a victim, not a perpetrator, of this incident."
Lawyer Zhang stepped forward, handed over his business card, and spoke in a professional yet firm tone, "According to relevant regulations, my client has the right to be questioned in the presence of an attorney and also has the right to request a pause if she feels unwell. At this point, Ms. Ji's condition is unfit to continue. Furthermore, regarding Su Jiujiu's injuries, we also need a more detailed forensic evaluation and investigation results, rather than conducting biased questioning of my client based solely on the hospital's preliminary diagnosis."
Chi Wenyan said nothing, but walked to Ji Wan's side, reached out, and gently held her trembling hand on her knees. His palm was warm and dry, with a soothing power.
Ji Wan looked up at him, feeling mixed emotions.
Touched, surprised, and with a subtle hint of bitterness. Shouldn't he be on a business trip in a province thousands of miles away? Why was he suddenly here?
"Mr. Chi, this..." The older policeman was a little embarrassed.
"My lawyer will take care of everything."
Chi Wenyan interrupted him, then looked at Ji Wan and slowed down his voice, "Let's go."
He didn't give the police a chance to say anything more. He took Ji Wan's hand and was about to take her away.
"Wait! Mr. Chi, procedurally..." the young policeman tried to stop him.
Lawyer Zhang stepped forward and stood in front of them. "Officer, I will fully cooperate with all legal procedures. But right now, my client's physical and mental health takes priority. If you insist, I will immediately complain to your superiors about this unlawful questioning method."
The older police officer exchanged glances with the younger police officer, and finally waved his hand, indicating that they could leave, but added: "We will contact Lawyer Zhang at any time, and hope that Miss Ji can cooperate with the follow-up investigation."
"Sure." Lawyer Zhang nodded.
Chi Wenyan pulled Ji Wan out of the interrogation room. The corridor outside seemed brighter than inside.
It was not until he sat in Chi Wenyan's familiar black Bentley that Ji Wan's tense nerves relaxed a little.
The heater in the car was on high, which dispelled some of the chill from her body.
Lawyer Zhang did not get in the same car with them, but stayed to continue communicating with the police about the aftermath.
The car drove away from the police station smoothly.
Ji Wan looked at the street scenes passing by outside the window, then turned to look at Chi Wenyan who was concentrating on driving in the driver's seat. The lines of his jaw were still as clear and his profile was handsome.
She had a lot of questions stuck in her heart.
Finally, she couldn't help but speak, her voice a little hoarse and confused: "Why are you here? Didn't you take a flight this morning to go on a business trip out of the province?"
Chi Wenyan's fingers gripping the steering wheel were clearly knuckled. Upon hearing this, he stared intently at the road ahead, his voice a little lower than usual: "The original flight was canceled."
Ji Wan frowned: "Cancelled? What a coincidence?"
She wasn't stupid; that was too perfunctory an explanation. The emergency had just happened this morning, and he'd rushed back from out of province that afternoon. A simple flight cancellation couldn't explain it.
The air in the car was stagnant for a moment.
Chi Wenyan seemed to sigh softly, but it was so faint that it was almost inaudible.
He slowly stopped the car in a relatively secluded place on the side of the road, then unbuckled his seat belt and turned to Ji Wan.
“It’s not cancelled.”
He finally spoke, his voice carrying a barely perceptible hint of fatigue, "I received a call saying something happened at the company gate, and it's related to you."
Ji Wan's heart skipped a beat.
Who informed him so quickly?
"So you just came straight back?"
"Yeah." Chi Wenyan's answer was simple and direct. "Vice President Lin and his team will handle the subsequent meetings and schedules. I asked my assistant to change my flight to the earliest available one."
He looked at her with deep eyes, "Ji Wan, to me, nothing is more important than you."
These words were like a stone thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples in Ji Wan's heart.
She looked at him in a daze, not knowing how to react. They were clearly still getting a divorce because of Su Jiujiu, yet he was able to immediately drop his important work and rush back from thousands of miles away just for her.
"How much do you know about Su Jiujiu's affairs?" Ji Wan asked with a dry voice.
"I know she hurt you."
Chi Wenyan's tone was calm, but Ji Wan could sense the suppressed anger beneath the calmness. "Lawyer Zhang will report the specific details to me. How are you? Are you injured? Did they give you any trouble at the police station?"
He reached out his hand, as if to touch her cheek, but ended up just landing on her shoulder and squeezing it gently, as if to make sure she was okay.
"I'm fine."
Ji Wan shook his head. "She deserves it."
Although she said so, she still felt a sense of fear and discomfort when she recalled Su Jiujiu's face that had been corroded beyond recognition.
"I know."
Chi Wenyan withdrew his hand and said, "From now on, I will never let her get close to you again."
There was a resolute determination in his words.
The car restarted and drove smoothly towards their once shared home, which now seemed a little delicate due to the divorce storm.
When you open the door, familiar furnishings come into view.
Yaoyao and Nian Nian have already fallen asleep, and the nanny is busy in the baby room quietly.
After letting go of the guard outside and the oppression of the police station, Ji Wan felt a deep sense of fatigue coming over him.
Chi Wenyan asked her to wash up first, and he went to the study to make a phone call.
After taking a shower, Ji Wan changed into comfortable home clothes and felt a lot more relaxed.
She walked into the living room and saw Chi Wenyan standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window with his back to her, seemingly talking to someone.
His voice was very low, but in this quiet night, Ji Wan could still vaguely catch some words.
"Yes, that's what I mean."
"Consequences? Since she dared to touch Ji Wan, she should bear all the consequences."
"No need to think too much, just do it."
Ji Wan paused.
She rarely saw Chi Wenyan speak in such a cold, emotionless tone. It was an order from a superior that could not be questioned, and it carried a chilling chill.
