Chapter 426: Comfort
"I believe you." Chi Wenyan's voice was low and powerful, and every word carried the power to soothe people's hearts.
He helped Ji Wan sit down on the bed, using his body to block any prying eyes from the door, his eyes as sharp as a hawk.
"Don't panic, I've already had the hospital sealed off. Our child must still be inside and can't escape."
As soon as he finished speaking, hurried footsteps and a faint commotion could be heard outside the corridor. Soon, there was a knock on the ward door. The dean and several chief physicians appeared at the door with solemn expressions, followed by a panicked head nurse.
"Boss Chi, what's going on? Why are you suddenly sealing off the hospital?"
The dean's forehead was sweating, and his tone was cautious in his inquiry.
He received the order, but had no idea what earth-shattering event had taken place.
Chi Wenyan turned sideways, his cold eyes swept over them, his tone without any warmth: "My child may have been switched in your hospital."
As soon as these words were spoken, the dean and the doctors all changed color, with disbelief written all over their faces.
"Exchange?" A chief physician who looked quite experienced frowned, took a step forward, his eyes fell on Ji Wan's pale and excited face, and his tone carried a barely perceptible questioning tone.
"Mrs. Chi, are you... too tired? You just gave birth and your emotions are unstable. Sometimes you might..."
"You mean, I'm hallucinating?"
Ji Wan raised his head suddenly, his voice rising with excitement, with a crying tone but unusually clear.
"My own child, a piece of flesh that fell from my body, was born with a very special birthmark, which the doctor told me personally. I remember it clearly. The child in the incubator just now didn't have it."
Her emotions were so intense that her body was shaking even more violently. Chi Wenyan immediately reached out to steady her, his eyes cold enough to freeze someone, and he glared at the doctor: "Are you saying that my wife is being unreasonable?"
The doctor was frightened by his gaze and quickly waved his hands, "No, no, no, Mr. Chi, that's not what I meant. It's just that the exchange of newborns has never happened in our hospital, and the security measures have always been very strict."
"Strict?" Chi Wenyan sneered and interrupted him.
"Are you so strict that my child could have been tampered with right under your noses? Right now, immediately, check everyone who has had contact with my child, the nursery surveillance, and the footage from all the hospital exits. I want to know who tampered with my child."
His tone was firm, filled with unquestionable authority and immense anger.
The dean and doctors looked at his gloomy face, then at Ji Wan's expression of fear and confidence, which was definitely not feigned, and their hearts began to beat fast. What if something really happened? None of them could bear the wrath of the Chi family.
"Yes, yes, Mr. Chi, don't worry." The dean did not dare to hesitate any longer and immediately turned around and gave stern orders to the medical staff behind him.
"Go check immediately. Retrieve all relevant surveillance footage and verify all newborn information. Especially the nurses in charge of the nursery. Call them all in for questioning. Quick."
For a moment, the entire floor was plunged into a highly tense atmosphere.
The sound of footsteps, the sound of intercoms, and suppressed inquiries were intertwined.
Chi Wenyan's men also quickly arrived at the scene, took over the security of various exits, and cooperated with the hospital in conducting internal inspections.
Ji Wan sat on the edge of the bed, his hands tightly clasped together, his eyes fixed on the door. Every minute and every second was like torture.
Chi Wenyan stayed by her side all the time, his big hands wrapped around her cold hands, silently conveying strength and support.
Time passed little by little, and every sound touched Ji Wan's nerves.
Just when she was about to be swallowed by the huge anxiety, a young doctor in a white coat ran over breathlessly with a look of shock on his face: "Mr. Chi, Dean, we found it, the surveillance camera captured it."
Ji Wan and Chi Wenyan's hearts were in their throats at the same time.
"Speak." Chi Wenyan's voice was filled with suppressed urgency.
"Around four in the morning, someone dressed as a cleaner entered the nursery while the nurse was away for a short while. She...she seemed to have taken your child away and put down another one."
The doctor spoke rapidly, sweat beading his forehead. "We're tracking the cleaner. She probably hasn't left the hospital yet."
"Where is she?" Chi Wenyan stood up suddenly, with a bloodthirsty cold light in his eyes.
"I found out. She's... in the utility room on the basement floor."
Before he finished speaking, Chi Wenyan rushed out of the ward like a gust of wind, followed closely by several black-clad bodyguards he brought with him.
Ji Wan also wanted to follow, but was stopped by a bodyguard left by Chi Wenyan: "Madam, please stay, the master will be back soon."
Ji Wan looked at the direction where Chi Wenyan disappeared, his heart beating like a drum.
Her child, her child was really replaced by someone.
The huge fear and anger made her tremble all over.
Not long after, there was a commotion at the end of the corridor, mixed with women's crying and begging for mercy.
Then, Chi Wenyan came back with a swaddle in his arms. His face was still cold, but his movements were extremely gentle as he held the child.
"Wanwan." He walked to the bedside and carefully handed the swaddle to Ji Wan.
Ji Wan took it with trembling hands, almost snatching it away. She couldn't wait to open a corner of the swaddling clothes, her eyes fixed on the familiar, light blue, uniquely shaped mark on the baby's inner thigh.
It is it, it really is it.
Tears burst out instantly, this time, it was a mixture of ecstasy and fear of regaining what had been lost.
She hugged the child tightly, as if she wanted to rub him into her bones and blood, sobbing and kissing the child's wrinkled face over and over again: "Baby, my baby, you scared me to death."
The little guy seemed to be woken up, humming twice in dissatisfaction and pouting his little mouth.
Chi Wenyan looked at the mother and son, his tense nerves finally relaxing a little, but the chill in his eyes grew deeper. He reached out and gently stroked Ji Wan's hair, a subtle hint of fear in his voice.
"It's okay, Wanwan, the child is found."
He turned his head and looked at the dean and doctors who were following behind him with pale faces. His voice was cold and icy: "Now, can you tell me what is going on?"
Out of the blue, their child was taken away.
If it weren't for Ji Wan's sharpness, he would have no idea that the child had been taken away.
Not bad, not bad.
There is still a chance to make amends.
The dean was shaking violently. He had never expected this situation to happen, and he couldn't help but remain silent.
"Boss Chi, I..."
