Chapter 19 Returning Home

Chapter 19 Returning Home

Ah Man held me, his eyes closed, and remained motionless for a long time; he must have fallen asleep.

By the moonlight, I looked at his face, which bore an uncanny resemblance to Aman's, and felt a little dazed. Tonight's perilous situation made me realize just how dire the circumstances were. He wasn't Aman, the abandoned child from the orphanage; he was Cao Cao, the powerful warlord who dominated a region, the hero whose name would be etched in history. How many people were eyeing him covetously, how many wanted to take his life? If he really were Cao Cao, it would be one thing, but in his current state, how could he possibly escape those lurking in the shadows, constantly eyeing his head?

He suddenly opened his eyes, which had been closed, and looked at me silently. We were very close, and in the bright moonlight, my image was clearly reflected in his narrow eyes.

“I can’t sleep, Xiaoxiao…” he said softly as he held me.

My eyebrows twitched slightly; it turned out I hadn't fallen asleep at all.

"Why did those people want to kill me..." He pursed his lips and spoke, looking somewhat aggrieved.

"Don't you remember anything at all?" I sighed softly.

"Yeah, sometimes I can remember a little bit, but if I think about it too carefully, I get a headache." He subconsciously raised his hand to cover his head, his face showing pain.

With this gesture, the robes that had been covering the two of them slipped off, leaving them completely exposed.

"Yes, I'm sorry..." he hurriedly apologized, carefully wrapping his robe around himself.

I lamented, the wound on my shoulder was throbbing with pain, and I was held in his arms, unable to move. If he had truly harbored evil intentions, I would be speechless.

He stared intently at me, his beautiful eyes unblinking, so focused that it sent chills down my spine.

"What are you looking at?" I asked, breaking the strange silence.

He didn't answer, but just kept looking at me. Suddenly, his soft, thin lips landed on my brow, skimming over it like a dragonfly touching the water.

I froze, staring wide-eyed at the smiling guy in front of me.

"What are you doing?" I gritted my teeth and forced out the question. So this guy was just pretending to be weak to take advantage of me.

"I like you." He actually dared to answer a completely different question.

"Well done," I nodded, furious. "They really dare to say that!"

“I don’t remember what I used to look like, but… I actually killed people, hacking away with each blow, my hands out of my control… there was blood all around me…” he said softly, his voice trembling slightly. “It was like this at the Prime Minister’s mansion gate… just now… I was actually terrified… very scared… but you came back to me both times… thank you for coming back to me…” He tightened his arms around me, holding me tightly.

The pain in my left shoulder was excruciating from his touch. I winced in pain but didn't say anything. I just weakly raised my hand and gently patted his shoulder.

If Cao Cao stays outside, he could encounter danger at any time. With those assassins so rampant, how can I, with my abilities, guarantee his safety every time? If a dangerous situation like today were to happen again, I really cannot guarantee that he could escape alive. Perhaps it would be safer for him to return to his own world, where at least Guo Jia is there.

"Aman," I said softly, "do you want to go back?"

"Go back where?"

"Your own home."

Is Xiaoxiao at home?

"No."

He shook his head.

I was slightly taken aback. (6e)

The sky had brightened without us even realizing it.

Suddenly, there was a noisy commotion outside.

Who? Who came looking for them? Those men in black?

I held Ah Man's hand tightly, and Ah Man hurriedly avoided the wound on my shoulder and helped me put on my clothes.

"Your Majesty, Prime Minister..."

"Pei'er... Pei'er!"

"Your Majesty, Prime Minister..."

That cry of "Pei'er" brought me back to my senses. It was Guo Jia! I was overjoyed and quickly tugged at Aman's sleeve, "Quick, help me out."

"Prime Minister!" Guo Jia, who was leading a group of people searching the mountain, saw us from afar and hurried over.

"You've finally arrived." I grinned, the pain in my shoulder becoming more pronounced. "How did you know we were here?" Last night, those men in black couldn't find this place.

"I am Guo the Fortune Teller," Guo Jia said with a smile.

Remembering that these were jokes made in a brothel, I smiled slightly, but the pain in my shoulder made cold sweat pour down my forehead.

"Brother Mengde, news of your departure has already spread. It's too dangerous outside. I've come to bring you back," Guo Jia said, turning to Cao Cao.

"Go back to the manor?" Aman was slightly taken aback, then hugged me tightly. "I'm not going back."

I knew he was thinking about what I had said last night, and I couldn't help but sigh inwardly.

Guo Jia looked at me, “If Pei’er’s injuries are not treated soon, I’m afraid…” He dragged out his words, looking like he wanted to say something but hesitated.

As expected, Ah Man fell for it and immediately picked me up, saying, "Quickly, take me to find a doctor!"

Guo Jia smiled, but a slight shadow fell over his clear eyes. "The Prime Minister's residence has the best doctors."

Cao Cao nodded without the slightest hesitation, then carried me and followed Guo Jia.

After a bumpy ride, Aman carried me off the horse and headed straight for the mansion gate.

"The Prime Minister is back! The Prime Minister is back!" A servant announced from afar.

In no time, the courtyard was filled with servants of all ranks.

"Father!" A loud cry startled me slightly as a young boy rushed out.

"Father!" Another boy rushed out.

"Father!" Another boy rushed out.

"Father!" Uh, this is a young girl.

Ah Man held me and walked straight past them, ignoring their expectant looks. "Doctor! Where is the doctor!"

"Prime Minister." A beautiful woman walked out gracefully.

"Doctor, where is the doctor?" Cao Cao kept repeating this one sentence.

"Quickly, fetch a doctor." It was the beautiful woman who spoke, looking at me, who was unable to move in Aman's arms. "Prime Minister, who is this?"

Cao Cao ignored him and continued to rampage through the mansion.

"Prime Minister, this young lady is seriously injured. Why don't we carry her back to her room to rest? The doctor will be here soon," the woman said, her manner very gentle.

I finally understand. The guy who was all lovey-dovey with me last night, and who had the audacity to say he liked me, is a married man! And the father of my child!
