Chapter 9 Burden Number Two

Chapter 9 Burden Number Two

"Wait...wait for me..."

The voice behind me grew closer and closer, like a vengeful spirit possessing me, and I couldn't shake it off no matter what I did.

I was running until I was covered in sweat, and they kept chasing me relentlessly...

"What do you want?!" Seeing that he was catching up, I stopped and glared at him, panting heavily. At that moment, "fierce in appearance but weak in reality" would be the most apt description. The sixty strokes of the cane that day had truly left me with a great psychological shadow.

Just the thought that the man in purple robes before me was none other than Cao Cao, the powerful warlord of that era, made my legs go weak and my limbs feel powerless.

The dog instinctively stepped in front of me.

"Do you know me? You...you know me, right..." He looked at me and spoke cautiously.

My eyes immediately popped out of their sockets. Is this the same guy who gave me sixty lashes last time?

"Don't you remember me?" I asked tentatively, glancing at him sideways.

He shook his head, looking completely innocent. After a long pause, he looked up at me again. "I... I don't remember anything..."

You don't remember anything? I was surprised.

Half a second later, I began to feel smug. They say that fortune turns like a wheel, but it turns so fast! Hehe, could it be that God is helping me get revenge for those sixty lashes?

"You really don't remember anything?" I stroked my chin, staring at him closely, a sly smile on my face.

He took a step back somewhat fearfully and nodded slightly.

"Ha! Ha! Ha!" I laughed three times, then leaned forward menacingly. "Do you know what you've done to wrong me?"

He was startled and shook his head timidly.

"You hit me! You hit me! Sixty strokes of the cane, a full sixty strokes!" My resentment finally erupted without restraint; I gritted my teeth, my face contorted.

"Will it hurt a lot?" he asked me, looking at me very cautiously.

"Pain? Of course it hurts! It hurts so much!" I yelled.

"I...I'm sorry!" He paused for a moment, then apologized quickly.

"What's the point of having police if saying sorry is enough!" I glared at him.

He took a step back from my glare, then asked with great curiosity, "What is a policeman?"

“The police are…” I started racking my brains trying to figure out how to explain this, then I snapped back to reality, “It’s none of your business!”

"sorry……"

"Hmph!" I was extremely smug. "Take off your clothes."

"Huh?" He looked at me in surprise, clutching his collar tightly with both hands.

Looking at myself now, I truly resemble a tyrant who oppresses innocent people.

"Hurry up! All you have left is this robe, take it off and give it to me! You have to make it up to me!" I yelled.

He lowered his head, silently took off his outer robe, carefully untied the jade pendant I had personally tied to it for him, and then handed the robe to me.

I took it without a shred of sympathy, feeling perfectly justified.

He was wearing only a white shirt, and he looked down at the jade pendant in his palm, looking pitiful.

Hmph, I won't feel any remorse! Sixty lashes! The pain in my body and soul... completely extinguished all my dreams of living a transmigrated life. If it weren't for my extraordinary endurance, I would have been crippled by those sixty lashes long ago. He didn't seem to feel any remorse when he hit me, so why should I have any now!

I pulled the dog away, ignored him, and turned to leave.

The dog didn't say a word, just followed me and left, without even glancing at the guy again.

"Uh, Doggy, am I being too harsh?" As I walked, I decided to listen to what the crowd thought.

The dog shook its head firmly.

See? The eyes of the masses are discerning. I'm starting to feel at ease again.

"Sister is never wrong, never will be wrong. Even if sister wants to kill him, Gou'er will kill him for sister without hesitation." After a long while, Gou'er spoke.

My lips started twitching. This... sounds a bit like blind obedience, doesn't it?

The face that looked exactly like Aman unconsciously began to appear in my mind, and I frowned slightly.

"Sister, are you regretting it?" Gou'er suddenly asked.

"Regret what?" I frowned.

The dog didn't speak, its dark eyes staring at me.

I started sweating profusely. "Hmph! I have no regrets! If I did, may lightning strike me right now!" I said loudly, looking up at the clear blue sky.

boom……

It thundered.

A crow flew past in front of me, and cold sweat began to appear on my forehead.

The dog nodded. "Sister, if you say you have no regrets, then you have no regrets. Where are you taking me now, sister?"

I'm sweating bullets. This dog has really taken blatant lying to the extreme.

Regardless of the dark clouds in the sky, I began to think about what to do next.

In just a short while, the rain poured down, and I quickly pulled the dog to take shelter under the eaves of a nearby building.

I remember when Aman first came to the orphanage, he would sit at the door every day waiting for his mother to pick him up. But one day it rained and everyone forgot to bring him back. The next day he developed a fever and almost died.

I looked up at the sky, and the sudden downpour washed away all the sweltering heat. I looked down and stared blankly at the bright purple robe in my hand.

"Dog, I have something to take care of. Wait for me here." Gritting my teeth, I raised my hand to shield myself from the rain and rushed into the downpour.

In the pouring rain, I ran all the way. Heaven knows why I went back to find him. But the image of Aman being critically ill kept flashing before my eyes, and that similar face made me uneasy.

Back where I was, I looked around but didn't see a soul. I found it a little funny. He was a perfectly healthy person; he would naturally seek shelter from the rain. Why was I so worried about him?

I was smiling and preparing to go back when I suddenly felt someone gently tugging at my sleeve.

I was slightly taken aback, turned around, and met an extremely beautiful face.

He was smiling at me in the heavy rain, a very childlike smile, but the rain had soaked him to the bone.

"What are you laughing at? Do you have white teeth?" I said irritably, standing in the pouring rain.

He kept his head down, clutching my clothes tightly with one hand.

"What are you doing standing here in the rain?"

"I'll wait for you," he said softly.

I'm speechless. Is this kid really stupid or just pretending?

"How did you know I would come back?" I spat out, unwilling to accept it.

“Yes,” he nodded. “I know.”

"What do you know now!" I yelled defiantly.

"Your eyes," he said, looking at me with a smile, speaking out of the blue.

"What's wrong with my eyes?" I blinked and gritted my teeth.

“Your eyes are so kind.” He reached out and touched my eyes. His long, slender fingertips were calloused and felt rough and ticklish.

I slapped his hand away, threw the bright purple robe in my hand into his arms, and glared at him angrily, "Stop trying to flatter me. Here's your robe back. You go your way, I'll go mine."

"Besides you... I don't remember anyone else..." he said, his voice filled with grievance.

"Strange, when did I meet you?"

"just."

My scalp started to tingle; the words "burden" seemed to come crashing down on me.

What terrible things have I done?! I've only been in this world for less than two days and I've already picked up two burdens?

Heavens above! I haven't even managed to feed myself, and you think so highly of me... Of course, if you were to give me a big spender, I certainly wouldn't object...

But why is she a burden...?! Ugh...

Boom! A sudden clap of thunder.

I was startled, shrank back, and dared not argue with God anymore.
