Summer Camp Challenge (Part 1)

Summer Camp Challenge (Part 1)

The ambulance arrived quickly, and Jiang Yichun and Manager An got into the ambulance with the paramedics.

After asking a few questions to bystanders, the emergency doctor sat down to the side.

He Yinxin lay on the emergency bed, his body covered with various small round patches. His fingertips trembled a few times, and he slowly opened his eyes.

A familiar face appeared vaguely before his eyes.

Jiang Yichun was sitting on the other side, holding his glasses that had slipped off.

"Xiaochun? You're here." His dry lips trembled.

Am I about to die?

Jiang Yichun's eyes were red and his voice trembled: "Don't talk nonsense, you won't die!"

"Watch less melodramatic TV shows."

Manager An, who was sitting to the side, chimed in: "Yeah, Xiao He, don't be too nervous. Getting into an ambulance doesn't necessarily mean you're about to... you know."

"Everyone who rode in the ambulance with me will be fine, don't worry."

"Sister An, what about your booth business...?"

"Oh, it's okay. There are a few staff members over there, and my subordinates and colleagues will cover for me."

Manager An smiled and said, "Your health is more important. I can't bear to see young people suffer too much."

"Okay, that's good." He Yinxin closed her eyes again.

His mind was foggy, and his consciousness began to waver again.

"It's so cold, Mom... why don't you want me anymore?"

"Dad, is it because I didn't do my best?"

"But I'm really sick."

"I can't go to school."

He babbled incoherently, those words popping out one by one.

"I don't hate you, I just want to leave."

"Let me rest for a bit."

"It's so cold, so very cold." His teeth chattered, and his excessively high body temperature attracted waves of cold air that engulfed him.

A pair of warm hands grasped his palms, carrying the faint scent of rose shower gel from his body.

"Hmm. You, you should rest first, silly."

"Stop thinking about the people who are causing you pain, okay?"

Jiang Yichun looked down at the tears sliding down his cheeks. Without thinking, she grasped his cold hand, trying to offer him some comfort with her own body heat.

"Yes. Thank you, Xiaochun."

"No need to thank me, it's nothing. I... am someone you know quite well."

"We can't just stand by and watch someone die, so don't stand on ceremony with me."

As Jiang Yichun spoke, she gripped his hand even tighter. Her hands, calloused from the heat, were warm, like a furnace.

He Yinxin groaned, closed her eyes, and continued to lie down.

The group finally arrived at the hospital.

He Yinxin was taken to the emergency room and then to other departments for examinations. Jiang Yichun and Manager An helped him pay the fees and get his medication.

He lay in his hospital bed, staring at the white ceiling.

Most of the patients lying with him were middle-aged or elderly.

As he listened to the intermittent coughing echoing in the ward, his thoughts slowly drifted back to his childhood.

Perhaps in moments of vulnerability, those dark and bitter memories resurface.

He thought of his grandmother who had passed away long ago, and his bouncy cousin.

When he was a child, his parents were always traveling around for business, so he lived with his grandfather.

Grandpa was a stern old man who always followed behind me, leaning on his cane, scolding me for not studying and only running around.

He always said that if you don't strive for success, you'll die, like your parents who were abused to death; like your immature sister who starved to death; like your estranged brother who was beaten to death.

The traumas passed down through generations were gradually passed down to this child through blood ties.

When Grandma went out to buy groceries, my cousin and I would read and write under Grandpa's watchful eye.

My cousin is very active and mischievous, running around like a cat. Grandpa obviously can't control this little devil.

He remained quiet and obedient, burying himself in his homework and reading like a capybara.

Because my mother said I should be an obedient child.

Because Dad said that we should work hard, be excellent, and do what they say.

Because they never make mistakes.

"Pah, old man, I think you're getting senile."

"Xinxin and Xixi are just two little kids, why are you scaring them like that?"

When Grandma returned from grocery shopping, she would glare at Grandpa, then drag him and his cousin outside, and ride her little tricycle around with the two children.

The old woman's appearance was blurry in his mind; he only vaguely remembered that she was a tall old lady who liked to cook and laugh.

Back then, he could happily chase after the white doves flapping their wings in the square under the sunlight.

The old lady was holding her cousin, standing to the side singing into a large microphone.

Until the old woman was lifted into the ambulance and laid on the bed he was lying on.

He never saw her again.

Grandpa moved into my parents' house, and the three of them began to work hard to become elites.

Like the white doves that disappeared from the square, he was locked in a pigeon coop and could never see the sky again.

He remained obedient, studied diligently, and followed the path they had laid out for him.

However, he felt that his soul had never been liberated, and he never knew what he truly wanted.

He was a perfect wooden sculpture created by his parents, exquisite on the outside, but his inside had been completely devoured by a long-growing parasite.

He Yinxin was in a daze when she heard a familiar voice.

"He Yinxin, are you feeling better now?"

He Yinxin slightly opened his eyes, and the light blue dress was still swaying in front of him.

She was holding the medical record in her hands.

Seeing her instantly dispelled those painful memories.

Yes, at least I met her.

Without her, I wouldn't have taken the first step to escape.

And at that moment, she was right beside him.

He closed his eyes and smiled, "Hehe, Xiaochun."

"I feel much better, thank you, hehe."

"Hey Lao He, you're acting like a madman. Luckily, our advisor hasn't arrived yet. He's getting your report and checking in with your boss."

"Otherwise you'll really be killed."

Another familiar voice of complaint rang in his ears.

"Old Jia?" He Yinxin opened her eyes again and looked at the boy beside her.

Jia Shugui touched his buzz cut: "Yes, it's me. Xixi's boyfriend."

"Well, I can't not come since 'Xixi' is sick, right?"

“Ah, you…” He Yinxin froze instantly, and he immediately turned to look at Jiang Yichun’s expression.

Jiang Yichun touched the two braids hanging over her shoulders, her face expressionless, and looked down at him.

Her eyes were red-rimmed.

"Xiaochun, I'm sorry, I..."

Jiang Yichun snorted: "I already asked him. Your roommate just told me."

"You really are a liar, your tricks are so clever."

"They even came up with such a terrible idea as asking their roommate to be a greasy guy."

While He Yinxin was lying in the emergency room being taken to other places for examination, Jiang Yichun followed Manager An around with a temporary card issued by the hospital.

Manager An turned to her and asked, "Young lady, you're his classmate, right? Do you know his advisor's contact information?"

“I also know that Xiao He’s situation is special; he and his parents have already…”

Jiang Yichun stroked his chin: "Hmm... let me look for it. I think I added their counselor's contact information before."

She opened WeChat, searched for a long time, and finally found his counselor's contact information. She sent a message, received a reply, and continued to follow Manager An.

The process of prescribing medicine and paying was so smooth that Manager An couldn't help but widen her eyes: "Young lady, you're very skilled."

Jiang Yichun just smiled and smoothed his messy hair: "I'm used to it. My grandma used to be sick a lot, and my mom was very busy, so I was the one who often accompanied her to the hospital."

"That's great, little sister, living independently is good."

Manager An patted her on the shoulder to express his appreciation.

He Yinxin's counselor quickly arrived with He Yinxin's roommate, Jia Shugui.

The moment Jiang Yichun's eyes met Jia Shugui's, he felt that the man looked extremely familiar.

However, given He Yinxin's condition, she did not expose it at that time.

When she and Jia Shugui finished all the formalities and were about to go to the emergency room to visit He Yinxin, she walked beside Jia Shugui, staring intently at him.

His facial features and tone of voice seemed familiar.

Jia Shugui felt a chill run down his spine under her gaze: "Jiang, why are you staring at me like that?"

"I'm not as handsome as Lao He."

Jiang Yichun stroked his chin: "I know, I just think you look a lot like someone."

"XiXi's greasy boyfriend".

Under Jiang Yichun's relentless pressure, Jia Shugui quickly confessed and told the truth, thus solving the last mystery about Xixi.

"I'm sorry..." He Yinxin was completely exhausted, and could only utter this sentence.

"Alright, you liar, here's the medicine, and your lab reports." Jiang Yichun placed a stack of papers and pills on his desk.

"It's nothing serious, I'm just exhausted and have a fever."

"Who told you to lie to me and say you had two umbrellas, and then walk home in the rain by yourself?"

Tears welled up in her eyes.

"Do you really enjoy lying to me that much? You bastard He Yinxin." As she spoke, she slowly knelt down beside the bed, gently touching his forehead, and a tear of hers fell onto his cheek.

"You're so delirious from the fever, and this checkup isn't cheap. What are you going to do, you idiot!"

"It's really frustrating to work a whole day and get nothing in return!"

He Yinxin was dazed and smelled the strong smell of beer on her.

...So excited, you must have been drinking.

He struggled to speak, "N-nothing, Xiaochun."

“Student medical insurance…I have student medical insurance, and I’ve already paid for it. I don’t need to pay that much.”

"Hehe, it won't be for nothing." He forced a smile and reached out to gently touch her fingertips.

"Wow, the girl feels sorry for you, and you're explaining the purpose of medical insurance to her in such a serious manner," Jia Shugui complained.

He Yinxin turned his gaze to Jia Shugui, who was making jokes to the side, and raised his hand to call out, "Old Jia, you, you turn on my phone and help me take a look, cough cough, my plans for this week."

"I'm sick, so I might not be able to go to some tutoring or part-time jobs."

He forced himself to get out of bed, turned on his phone, and handed it to Jia Shugui.

What are your plans?

"memorandum."

The dizziness returned, and He Yinxin covered her eyes and lay back down on the bed.

Jiang Yichun walked over to Jia Shugui and peered at his phone screen.

She blinked, wanting to see clearly the results of He Yinxin's hard work, and also to gossip a bit.

Her gaze swept across the memo.

He arranged the memo form neatly, with a pinned post at the very top.

Jiang Yichun stared intently, his eyes suddenly darkening.

The pinned title is:

[Minor matters related to Jiang Yichun].

"Senior Jia, wait a minute, let me take a look first."
