Chapter 42 New Year's Wishes

Chapter 42 New Year's Wishes

After a few rounds of drinks, Huang Yanyan was slightly tipsy, but she could still stand and walk, so it didn't affect everyone's ability to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks display.

A lot of people had already gathered at the central lake. Yan Yan pulled me to squeeze in, but Chu Zhen pulled me out.

"The fireworks are bursting in the sky, and the visual effect is even better from here."

Yeah, I don't know why everyone's crowding in. Are they watching the fireworks? Chu Zhen and I stood on the outermost edge, while Zhao Zhengyu, a little worried about Yan Yan, squeezed into the crowd as well.

"Aren't you going in to see what's going on?" Chu Zhen asked Chen Weiqi, who was standing to the side.

"Do you think I'm in your way?" Chen Weiqi replied indifferently.

"That's not the case. It's just that we're worried we won't be able to handle it when we show off our love."

"Don't worry, you've all shown off in front of me before, you're as calm as still water." Although he said that, Chen Weiqi still took a few steps back.

As the clock approached midnight, the square echoed with the countdown. It was my first time participating in such a large-scale New Year's Eve event, and I couldn't help but feel excited, shouting along with everyone else.

At midnight, a dazzling array of fireworks burst into bloom in the sky above the square, displaying a variety of shapes and colors that instantly adorned the dark night sky with vibrant hues.

As the fireworks soared into the sky, I clasped my hands together, closed my eyes, and devoutly made my New Year's wish.

"Do you want me to marry you?" Chu Zhen asked immediately when he saw me open my eyes.

"Marry you? That wish is too insignificant compared to my New Year's resolution."

"You don't actually want world peace, do you?"

"Why can't it be like this? My wish is for universal love, while yours is for small love."

"Boring," Chen Weiqi said coldly from behind, which was truly a killjoy at this moment.

"If you're bored, go away. I didn't ask you to stay here." Chu Zhen hugged me, still gazing at the starry sky. Chen Weiqi didn't leave either, but he stopped talking.

"Lin Dang, hurry up, let's set off fireworks together!" Huang Yanyan stepped out from the crowd, holding a lot of sparklers.

"Okay~" I took a small bundle, and Chu Zhen lit it for me. It burst into bloom instantly. The last time I set off fireworks was during the Chinese New Year with Chu Zhen. At that time, we were just independent individuals.

Zhao Zhengyu is truly a treasure. He goes completely crazy when he's with Huang Yanyan, just like the man in the white coat during the day. Even at nearly thirty years old, he can still run and chase with us.

Chu Zhen didn't join us. He told me that these kinds of things are romantic for two people, but it's just nonsense with more people, and he's past the age of being silly. However, he noticed that Chen Weiqi, who was standing to the side that day, never took his eyes off me.

I told him he was seeing things; with so many people, how could he be sure it was me?

Chu Zhen said that women have a sixth sense, and so do men.

On the second day of the new year, Huang Yanyan and Chen Weiqi went back to City A first. Chu Zhen and I stayed at the hospital. Zhao Zhengyu had to be on duty, so there was no one to accompany them around.

During Chu Zhen's stay, the ward was bustling with people. Almost all of his relatives came to visit, along with some of his parents' friends and people from his hometown village. Chu Zhen treated everyone who came with courtesy and consideration. In this respect, I realized that finding an older person was indeed the right choice; at least they could handle all kinds of situations and affairs.

My mother's health has recovered remarkably well, and I think this is all thanks to Chu Zhen. Every visitor always praises my parents for finding such a good son-in-law. I even feel like my parents are waiting for others to come and visit.

"People say that cabbages get eaten by pigs, but how come my cabbage managed to meet such a good person?" Chu Zhen has already returned to City A, and the two of them started discussing this unabashedly in front of me again.

"Do you remember when you were worried she wouldn't be able to find a husband, so you had her fortune told? Back then, you said she would meet a benefactor, and I think that benefactor is Chu Zhen," Mom said confidently.

"What kind of fortune telling are you giving me?" I was speechless.

“How can it not count? Other people go to college and date, dating for two or three years. After graduation, they get married as soon as they have a stable job. But look at you, no one was interested in you in college. Now that you're working, you meet even fewer people. Who knows when someone will be interested in you? How can I feel at ease?” My mother spoke of her feudal superstitions in such a grand and respectable way.

"That's because I didn't want to talk about it. Back then, I had tons of guys pursuing me."

"There are plenty of people like you. Before, you wore glasses and dressed casually. Nine out of ten people who were attracted to you were not very good-looking."

"Then you're wrong, old man. When Chu Zhen met me, I looked exactly as you described." But after saying that, I suddenly realized that I wasn't wearing glasses when Chu Zhen first met me, and my laser eye surgery was also arranged by him. Could it be that my eyes are really that beautiful? I immediately turned on the front camera of my phone, and sure enough, beneath long eyelashes were a large, watery black eyeball, which was quite nice.

"What are you looking at? It's all inherited from me," Mom said from the side.

"If you hadn't said that, I would have really thought I wasn't your biological child."

"If it weren't for these eyes, I would have really thought I was switched at birth!"

Okay, I'm completely defeated in front of my parents. They say a daughter is her father's lover from a past life. It seems my father didn't have a lover in his past life at all. I was just a gift!

My mother stayed in the hospital for half a month, and my dear father took care of her without leaving her side for half a month. I envy such a relationship. However, when the two of them had nothing to do, I became the object of their teasing. Fortunately, after more than 20 years, I have become used to it.

Chu Zhen came over the day before I was discharged. I packed my things for the hospital while he went to handle the discharge procedures. Other patients would sigh and say, "Who says raising a son is for old age security? Having a daughter and finding a good son-in-law is the real way to secure your old age!" Whenever this happened, my parents would show proud smiles, and I would feel a little bit of my own presence.

"Finally home! Home is the best!" Mom and Dad exclaimed as soon as they arrived.

"Chu Zhen, sit down. Lin Dang, go boil some water and make a cup of tea for Chu Zhen!" Mom sat down on the sofa as soon as she entered the room, and then arranged the work for Dad and me. Of course, Chu Zhen was a favored minister, and all he had to do was accompany the emperor.

I opened all the windows to let in fresh air, boiled water, and made tea. Dad started wiping the dust, and the work proceeded in an orderly manner.

"The food at this hospital is too greasy. Today I'll cook something delicious so you can try my cooking." Dad's cooking is really good; compared to Chu Zhen's, it has a more homely feel.

My mom had been in the hospital for a while and wanted to go out for a walk, so she went grocery shopping with my dad. I finally got some peace and quiet and could steal a moment of leisure.
