Chapter Twenty-Four: Drunkenness at the Banquet
We chatted along the way, and the Chen Weiqi I saw and the Chen Weiqi Huang Yanyan described were completely different people. Which one was the real him?
I barely listened to any of the classes today. I reported all my conversations with Chen Weiqi to Huang Yanyan. Of course, I didn't tell Yanyan about Chen Weiqi's so-called "love at first sight," because I believe they might "develop feelings over time."
"Yes, I definitely have to go. You don't have a dress, but I do. I'll wear black, and you can wear white. We'll stun the whole room today."
In the end, I decided to go to the banquet after being persuaded by Huang Yanyan, although I actually wanted to go anyway. However, I didn't ask Chen Weiqi to pick me up. Yanyan said that my entrance had to be stunning, that I had to give Chen Weiqi a visual impact. I thought, perhaps this kind of Yanyan could make him "fall in love at first sight."
Huang Yanyan was truly an enchantress. Under the crystal chandeliers, her black fitted dress accentuated her figure perfectly. Not only were the men stunned, but the women were also dumbfounded. I noticed a glint in Chen Weiqi's eyes. In contrast, my outfit was much more ordinary. Perhaps because I didn't enter at the same time as Huang Yanyan, I was still somewhat noticeable.
Since it was Huang Yanyan's company's anniversary celebration, and I didn't know any of her colleagues or clients, I found a quiet place to sit down and casually watched the people chatting. I always felt that they had secured big orders while chatting and laughing.
"Miss, may I invite you for a drink?" A middle-aged man in front of me looked at me with a wine glass in hand.
"Sorry, I'm not a big drinker." I was just there for the fun, not to put on an act, so I declined decisively.
"It seems impolite to refuse someone in this situation. You know, it would be a bit inappropriate for me to put this glass back here!" The older man should be a "veteran," while I'm just a newbie. If I make things too awkward, will it cause Chen Weiqi any trouble?
"Then I'll have a drink with you, but I really don't drink alcohol." I picked up the glass and took a sip. To this day, I've only ever had beer, and this was my first time trying red wine. Surprisingly, it tasted much better than beer.

The uncle looked at me, as if he wouldn't leave until he finished his drink. Judging from his words, Yan Yan must have flattered him quite a bit. He must have seen me enter the venue at the same time as Yan Yan.
"Then I'll toast you with this!" I drank it all in one gulp.
"Young lady, you have a good capacity for alcohol! You were just being modest!" The middle-aged man sat down next to me. "Are you also an employee of Company S?"
"No, I came with a friend."
"Miss Huang, right? I just saw you come in with her." The uncle moved closer to me, seemingly unintentionally. I suddenly felt a little worried. Even though I had never been to such a place before, I had seen similar situations on TV.
"No, I don't know her." I was certain that I would offend this man, so it was best to distance myself from everyone at Company S at this moment.
"Um, please have some self-respect!" The uncle's hand had already touched my leg. This skirt really was a bit short. Now I only hate myself for choosing such a secluded place where I couldn't even see anyone to call for help.
"We're all in this business, and we all know the rules. Don't worry, even though you're not with Company S, in the media industry, if you need any help, I can get it done for you with just a word." The uncle finally got to the point, but my head started to feel dizzy. Could there have been something drugged in my drink? That shouldn't be the case. I kept a close eye on my glass, afraid that something might have been tampered with.
"I'm sorry, I don't do this line of work, so I don't think I'll need your help." I reached out to remove his hand from my lap, but he grabbed it instead.
Looking at his oily face and the hand gripping me, I felt nauseous. My already dizzy head throbbed even more, my eyes started to feel weak, and my body began to feel hot. Slowly, slowly, I lost consciousness.
"Lin Dang, you're finally awake!" When I opened my eyes again, I seemed to see light.
"Yan Yan, did something happen to me?" Looking at her anxious expression, I recalled what had happened before. Could it be that something happened after I couldn't remember anything?
“There was almost an accident, but thankfully, Chen Weiqi stopped it in time.”
"Awake!!" Chu Zhen actually appeared in front of me with a glass of water. Was it my imagination? Was I dreaming? I rubbed my eyes.
"Oh no!" I suddenly remembered that the contact lenses I wore last night to match my dress had scratched my eyeball when I rubbed it.
"What's wrong?" Chu Zhen hurried over and put down the water glass.
"I'm still wearing my contact lenses!"
"Take it off yourself." Chu Zhen had thought it was something serious, but it turned out to be this, and his anger flared up again.

“Yesterday, when President Cao was about to take you away, Chen Weiqi saw it and stopped him in time. However, since he couldn’t leave the banquet, he sent Chu Zhen to pick you up,” Huang Yanyan explained.
"Was I drugged yesterday?" I asked, looking at the two of them.
"Why drink if you can't hold your liquor? Do you know how strong wine is?" Chu Zhen said with a gloomy face. "Drink the water!"
"I'm going to work now that you're awake. Chen Weiqi offended President Cao yesterday, so he might be in some trouble today. Brother Chu, I'm leaving Lin Dang in your care!" Huang Yanyan said and ran off.
"Have I messed up?" I was a complete stranger to the "General Manager Cao" she was talking about.
"He's a notorious womanizer in the industry, and everyone else keeps their distance. But you, you actually drank with him."
"I didn't intend to drink with him, and it was just a small glass. With my alcohol tolerance, I shouldn't be drunk, right?" I was really puzzled.
"You think you can drink a thousand cups without getting drunk, Lin Dang? From now on, you'd better quit drinking completely. Think about it, the first time I brought you home drunk, if I had any bad intentions, would you still be here safely? Something almost happened today. What would you have done if something had happened?" Chu Zhen said angrily.
"What's there to be nervous about? Nothing happened, right? It just means I always run into helpful people when I'm drunk, and my helpful person is you. Look, I've been drinking three times, and I've run into you every time. Don't you think alcohol is like Aladdin's lamp, able to summon you?" I said playfully to Chu Zhen.
"You can call or text me if you want to see me, but let's cancel this risky calling method involving drinking in the future!" Chu Zhen was speechless after I said that.
"Yes, I will obey Your Majesty's command!" I smiled. "However, my eyes are a little uncomfortable right now!"
"Let me see." Chu Zhen came close to me, and I could even feel his breath. My heart started racing for no reason. "Your eyes are probably inflamed. They're all bloodshot. Get up and wash up quickly. I'll take you to the hospital."
