Chapter Twenty-Three: Love at First Sight

Chapter Twenty-Three: Love at First Sight

The cast was removed, and the doctor said the recovery was going well.

"Chu Zhen, look!" I pointed to my two legs; the leg with the cast on was noticeably thinner.

"Oh no, am I suffering from muscle atrophy? Am I really disabled?!"

"It's nothing serious. This is just muscle wasting from not exercising for a long time. You'll gain weight again if you move around more," the doctor quickly explained when he saw my appearance.

"Doctor, could you please tie up my other leg as well? I still hope that the muscles in both legs can be reduced."

"Young lady, if you keep binding yourself like that, you'll look like a bamboo pole. I really don't know what you're thinking. Do you think being skinny is attractive? I see your complexion is much better lately than when you first came here. You look better when you're a bit fuller." The doctor said and left.

"Doctor, what do you mean? Do I look fat?" I asked Chu Zhen hurriedly.

"No, your legs have gotten thinner, haven't they?" Chu Zhen smiled.

"That's not right." I walked over to the nurses' station. In one month, I had gained ten pounds.

"Chu Zhen, I've been making you drink bone broth all the time, now it's all turned into fat."

"The doctor said that your complexion was not good before, but you look much better now. You look plump and have a blessed appearance."

"I want to lose weight, I want to lose weight~ By the way, help me move today. My leg is better now, I should go back. I'm worried about leaving Yan Yan alone."

"Okay!" Chu Zhen didn't try to stop me. I had indeed been bothering him for a while. Yan Yan would come here to keep me company every few days. Once, when I came, Chen Weiqi happened to be visiting me, and she hoped to catch a few more glimpses of him here.

Because of my recklessness that time, the gutter oil workshop moved to a new location. When Chu Zhen went there again, it was deserted, which was within his expectations. I felt quite guilty, after all, Chu Zhen had been working on it for a while, and now it had to start all over again. Chu Zhen, however, advised me that although the people were gone, the production chain was still there, and as long as we kept an eye on the swill collectors, we could eventually find it again.

"You've recovered well. Has your leg fully healed?" The nun looked me over after class.

"Yes, it's back to normal, but I'll borrow notes from my classmates to catch up on the lessons I missed." Although the nun's attitude towards me has changed a lot, her long-standing fear of me hasn't diminished.

"This is my book and lesson plans. You can take a look at them when you get back. But remember to get plenty of rest."

I don't think I've damaged my brain, right? This can't be a hallucination, can it?

"Perhaps the nun felt that the paper had been too torturous for you that day, and now she wants to treat you better! Or perhaps the nun has discovered that you are her favorite student, so she has high expectations for you!" Huang Yanyan analyzed.

Regarding Master Huang's 360° change in attitude, I'll just assume that Huang Yanyan's analysis is correct!

Although the cast has been removed, my leg is not completely healed, and I still walk with a limp. There is an empty bed in the dormitory, but it is really just an empty bed with nothing inside. It is probably filled with miscellaneous items now. I have to take the bus every day. However, I have experienced what it means to be treated as an "old, weak, sick, disabled, or young person". Sometimes, when I see the pitying looks in the eyes of the old ladies and gentlemen, it seems that they are thinking, "How come such a nice girl is lame?"

"Big sister, you look good in everything. If I don't leave soon, I'll really miss the bus." Huang Yanyan needed to attend the company's anniversary celebration today, so she got up early to start choosing clothes.

"Alright, you can choose one of these two for me!"

A long black midriff-baring dress and a short white dress—these are completely different styles, sexy and innocent. How could she be so hesitant between the two?

"Black will make you stand out from the crowd, but Chen Weiqi would probably prefer white."

"Really? Then I'll choose black!"

What kind of logic is this? I was a little puzzled, but I didn't have time to ask any more questions.

The regular bus I was supposed to take has already left, and I have to wait another 15 minutes. Ugh, I'm definitely going to be late.

"Lin Dang?"

"Chen Weiqi, what are you doing here?"

"I just dropped off a client and happened to be passing by. Where are you headed?"

"I'm going to school, but I'm going to be late for class." I anxiously checked the time.

"Get in the car, I'll give you a ride."

"No……"

"Hurry up, we can't park here for long." Chen Weiqi must have noticed my urgency. Oh well, owing him a favor is better than running into the classroom in public and getting scolded by the professor! But where should I sit? Car etiquette tells me that if it's just the two of us, sitting alone in the back seat would mean Chen Weiqi is essentially playing the role of the driver; and if I sit in the front passenger seat, that's usually reserved for girlfriends. Even if I don't have a girlfriend, I don't know if he has any reservations about that.

"What are you standing there for? Get in!" Chen Weiqi opened the car window and patted the passenger seat. I quickly got in the car.

"The Teachers' College!"

How did you know?

“You and Huang Yanyan are from the same school, so you must be from the Teachers College.”

"You seem to know Yan Yan quite well!" I smiled.

"I have all the employees' personal information memorized. I can tell what type of work an employee is good at from their preferences, which makes it easier to assign people to suitable positions."

No wonder he became a director at such a young age; such comprehension is not something ordinary people possess.

"Chen Weiqi, can I ask you a question?" This is something that has been puzzling me.

Tell me about it.

"If your company didn't have a policy against office romances, would you have fallen for Yan Yan?"

"Do you think this system can prevent two people from developing feelings for each other?"

Although he didn't answer me directly, I understood what he meant: he didn't like Huang Yanyan.

"So what kind of girl do you like?"

"I can't really explain it. First of all, there has to be a connection. I'm someone who believes in love at first sight."

"What era are we living in? Still talking about love at first sight? I didn't realize you were still a bit of a romantic!" Unlike Chu Zhen, he answered the question directly, with a smile always on his face. At this moment, I actually felt a little sorry for Huang Yan Yan. If Chen Weiqi really believed in love at first sight, then Yan Yan would have been ruthlessly relegated to the sidelines. Nearly a year of eye contact hadn't sparked any romance, so it was clear that Huang Yan Yan wasn't Chen Weiqi's type.

"And you?"

"I?"

"Yes, what kind of boy do you like, or do you have a boy you like?"

"Boys? In my mind, I think I should like men, the kind with a certain charm. They might not necessarily take care of me, but they must support me. Our worlds should be independent and not interfere with each other." As I said this, Chu Zhen's face was all I could think of.

"A modern, independent woman, that's great! Being with you shouldn't be too tiring. The company is having an anniversary dinner tonight, and I'd like to invite you!"

"Me? Forget it, I don't even have a formal dress in the strict sense." I've never been to such an occasion before. Although I'd love to see it, I don't have anything presentable to wear.

"A confident person should be at ease in any situation, and I believe you are one of them. Think about it! If you're sure, I'll pick you up tonight!"
