Chapter Fifty-Eight: Tomato and Egg

Chapter Fifty-Eight: Tomato and Egg

My place isn't big, and Yan Yan has to go to work during the day, so we went to Chu Zhen's place together, a familiar place.

In the past two years, Chu Zhen would bring Chu Lin back to stay for a day or two, so Chu Lin was not unfamiliar with him.

"Did you always sleep in the guest room when you came here before?" I asked Chu Lin as he put his backpack in the guest room after he came in.

"Yes, Dad said that only he and you can sleep in that room. I'm a boy, and I need to be independent."

This Chu Zhen really knows how to educate children!

"How about I sleep in the guest room with you tonight?"

"Although I really want you to stay with me, it's impossible. Boys can't sleep with girls." Chu Lin actually rejected me, and this reason left me speechless.

"How did you educate Chu Lin?" Chu Zhen went straight into the kitchen as soon as he returned.

"Men and women are different? Isn't that right?" Chu Zhen said, slicing a tomato. "Would you like to show off your skills tonight?"

"Okay!" Thinking that Chu Lin hadn't tasted my cooking yet, I put on an apron, ready to show off my skills.

Chu Zhen washed and chopped the vegetables while I cooked them. Soon, a table full of dishes was ready. Of course, I only made vegetarian dishes; meat dishes were still a challenge for me.

"This scrambled eggs with tomatoes is delicious, even better than what Chu's father makes." Chu Lin wasn't lying; his bowl was already empty.

"How do you know this wasn't done by Chu's father?"

"Because Father Chu's cooking looks better than this, but Mother Lin's cooking tastes better."

This child really doesn't offend anyone. With such emotional intelligence, I really don't know how his parents could bear to abandon him. Looking at his mouth covered in tomato juice, my maternal love overflowed, and I scooped some more tomato and egg into his bowl.

"Eat something yourself, you're as skinny as a monkey." Chu Zhen put a chicken leg in my bowl and another in Chu Lin's bowl.

"Mom, you can have mine too. I had KFC for lunch." Chu Lin thoughtfully put his chicken leg into my bowl as well.

Being taken care of by two men felt truly blissful, and I was so moved that I shed tears.

"Aunt Lin, why are you crying? Have I been naughty?" Chu Lin saw my tears and quickly reached out to wipe them away.

"It's alright, Lin's mother is just happy."

"Ah, so you can cry when you're happy!"

Chu Lin's surprised expression was so cute that I couldn't help but laugh again.

After dinner, I played with Chulin for a while, gave him a bath, and then took him to the guest room to put him to sleep. Chulin was really well-behaved; even though he was not yet four years old, he didn't need anyone to worry about his sleeping or eating. Perhaps he was tired from playing all day, because he fell asleep before I even finished telling him a story. I closed the door and prepared to leave.

"Chu Lin will probably really want to see you when he wakes up tomorrow," Chu Zhen said as I was about to leave.

"Then I'll come back tomorrow morning!"

"Stay here. I have something to do tonight. You stay home with him!" After saying that, Chu Zhen got up from the sofa, grabbed his keys, and went out.

Well, I wanted to leave because of him. Now that he's gone, I'll stay. After all, Chu Lin is alone, and what if something happens to him at night and he can't be found? I didn't wash up; I just grabbed a blanket and lay down on the sofa to sleep.

"Why isn't Lin's mom up yet? Aren't we going to the amusement park today?" In my sleep, I vaguely heard Chu Lin's voice.

"Mom was playing with you yesterday, she's so tired, let her rest. We'll go to the amusement park when Lin's mom wakes up," Chu Zhen said.

Okay~

I opened my eyes. This wasn't a dream; it was their actual conversation. I then realized that I was lying on Chu Zhen's bed again, and I had changed into my pajamas.

Sigh, my sleep quality is almost too good; I wouldn't even know I was being sold out.

"Mom, you're finally up!" Chu Lin must have been waiting at the bedroom door the whole time, as soon as I opened it he rushed up.

"Hmm~ I'll wash up."

My things are still in the bathroom, as if I've always lived here and never left.

"We've already eaten. Your breakfast is on the table. After you finish eating, we'll go to the amusement park."

"Oh~"

Milk, sandwiches, boiled eggs, fruit salad...

I remember Chu Zhen asking me back then whether I wanted Chinese or Western food. At the time, Western food was the standard choice. Every bite was a memory of the past; Chu Zhen truly meant well.

"Did Chen Weiqi confess his feelings to you?" Chu Zhen asked me while Chu Lin was playing at the children's playground.

"He told you?" I was a little surprised.

"Well, they said they're waiting for your reply, and also told me that we're competitors now, not brothers."

"Oh~"

What are you thinking?

"I haven't thought about it much yet. Right now, I'm focusing on my career!"

"So, do you like Chen Weiqi? I remember you once said he was a very gentlemanly person," Chu Zhen persisted, continuing to ask.

"He's alright, he has a gentle personality, but I always feel like we're from two different worlds, we don't get along."

If it weren't for Chu Zhen, Huang Yanyan, and Song Zhixiao, Chen Weiqi's confession might have stirred my heart. But without these "ifs," it would be absolutely impossible for Chen Weiqi and me.

Where is Wang Sihong?

I never expected that Chu Zhen would ask Wang Sihong.

"Male confidant, soulmate."

"You treat him like a close male friend, but he might not feel the same way. I heard he asked someone to propose marriage to you!"

"How did you know? That happened years ago?" I was a little puzzled. Could it be that Huang Yanyan, that big mouth, was behind it?

"Did Huang Yanyan tell you?" I asked.

"If you like me, why do you always keep me at arm's length?" Chu Zhen looked at me, and I disliked that kind of gaze from him the most—a gaze that seemed to want to see right through me.

"Who said I like you?" I tried to deny it.

“You were so heartbroken that you went to the hospital because of me, and you went to teach in a mountainous area to escape me. Now, you've gone to work for a newspaper to avoid me.”

Did you threaten Huang Yanyan?

"I'm asking you a question, don't interrupt." Chu Zhen's eyes were sharp, so sharp that they frightened me.

"Yes, I was trying to avoid you, but it's not because I like you," I said, looking into Chu Zhen's eyes and trying to appear calm.

"Lin Dang, your eyes are beautiful and expressive, you know? You can't lie to anyone." Chu Zhen put away her previous sharpness and looked at me gently. This is Chu Zhen, switching between coldness and tenderness at will.

"Chu Zhen, your eyes can speak too, you know that? It's just that I can't read them."

Now Chu Zhen was staring blankly at me.

"Don't you think there are some things you've never explained to me? Since you know I was hospitalized because of you, do you know why I was hospitalized? You say I'm avoiding you, but why would I be avoiding you?" I got so agitated that I didn't care that there were people around.

Chu Zhen probably didn't expect me to say that, and was immediately at a loss for words. Chu Lin heard my voice and walked over here as well.

"Did you two have a fight?" Chu Lin asked.

"Honey, no, we were just discussing something. Go back to playing, I'll go buy you something to eat." Chu Lin was just a child after all, and he believed me, so he went back inside to play with the other kids. I went downstairs to buy Chu Lin some food.
