Chapter Sixty-Two: Girlfriend's Duties

Chapter Sixty-Two: Girlfriend's Duties

“This is a matter between my girlfriend and me. Mr. Chu seems to be meddling a bit too much,” Wang Sihong said calmly, withdrawing his hand.

"Girlfriend?" Chu Zhen repeated, not looking at Wang Sihong, but staring directly at me.

"Yes, Lin Dang is my girlfriend. May I ask what brings you here, Mr. Chu?"

"Is that so?" Chu Zhen still ignored Wang Sihong.

"Yes, I don't know what brings you here, Mr. Chu. My boyfriend and I are going to have breakfast, so please make way for us." Since we'd have to face this sooner or later, we might as well be upfront. As I spoke, I took Wang Sihong's arm.

"Lin Dang, is that really true?" Chu Zhen stared at me coldly, her eyes bloodshot.

"Excuse me~" I turned away from Chu Zhen and left with Wang Sihong. I appeared carefree in public, but my heart was bleeding. It turned out that I still had feelings for Chu Zhen. Seeing the bottle full of cigarette butts, my heart ached especially. He rarely showed such a haggard side.

City A is famous for its breakfast, so I took Wang Sihong to a well-known teahouse. It was already quite crowded, so we found a window seat.

"I remember you used to love drinking soy milk with fried dough sticks, right?" Wang Sihong said after looking at the menu. Sure enough, we knew each other very well.

"Just order me soy milk and fried dough sticks. The ones marked with a five-pointed star are the signature dishes. You can try them."

Wang Sihong had just gone to order food when Chu Zhen's message came through.

"I'll be waiting for you at the newspaper office entrance at eight o'clock."

The words were brief, I didn't reply, silenced my phone, and put it aside.

"There are so many people in line, and judging from their accents, most of them seem to be from out of town." After a while, Wang Sihong came to the table and brought over soy milk and fried dough sticks.

"and yours?"

"Eat it while it's hot. I ordered a shrimp wonton soup, it'll be a while."

I was indeed a bit hungry, and without caring about my image, I dipped the fried dough stick into the soy milk. Actually, there was no need to care about my image in front of Wang Sihong, since I spent the most unrefined years of my life with him.

"After you finish eating, I'll take you to the newspaper office. I have to go back to City B after today's discussion. I'll come back this weekend," Wang Sihong said.

"No need, I have something else to do. You should go directly to the city government!"

"Lin Dang~" Wang Sihong put down the spoon in his hand and looked at me.

"What's wrong?"

Are you angry with Chu Zhen?

I didn't expect Wang Sihong to ask that directly. Was it out of spite? I can't really say for sure.

"If you still love Chu Zhen, it's okay for me. I believe love is about mutual consent. As far as I'm concerned, I only hope you're happy." Wang Sihong said each word calmly, while I felt a little flustered.

"Lin Dang, no matter what, don't force yourself. The way you look at Chu Zhen doesn't lie."

"Wang Sihong~"

"Lin Dang, I'm so happy to have been your boyfriend for a day. It's like my wish has come true. But if Chu Zhen ever hurts you, I'll definitely be by your side. Okay, I have to go to the city government now." With that, Wang Sihong picked up his briefcase and turned to leave.

Watching his departing figure, I felt somewhat relieved. I must have been out of my mind the day before yesterday, impulsively agreeing to it.

I grabbed my bag and ran toward the newspaper office, Chu Zhen's image from that morning still lingering in my mind.

A familiar car was parked on one side of the newspaper office gate.

I walked over, and Chu Zhen was slumped over the steering wheel, his back trembling slightly.

"Chu Zhen~" I knocked on the car window.

Upon hearing my voice, Chu Zhen slowly raised his head, rubbed his face with both hands, and opened the car door to get out.

"You cried?" I noticed Chu Zhen's eyes were wet, clearly from crying. I took out a tissue from my bag and wiped his eyes. "Silly, why are you crying?"

Chu Zhen stared at me intently, seemingly bewildered by my behavior, and remained silent for a long time.

"Isn't it eight o'clock? Why are you here so early?"

"Where's your boyfriend?" Chu Zhen glanced at my side.

"He went to the municipal government." I felt sorry for Chu Zhen standing in front of me. Normally I would have confronted him, but now I didn't want to hurt him or for us to grow further apart. Even Wang Sihong could see my feelings for Chu Zhen, and I didn't want to pretend to be calm anymore.

Chu Zhen didn't say anything. He walked to the passenger side, opened the door, and gestured for me to get in. Then he got in himself, helped me fasten my seatbelt, and we drove in silence. I didn't ask him where we were going. I looked ahead and roughly knew the route.

Yes, it's still in front of the eye hospital, the place where we first met and fell in love...

"How does he treat you?" Chu Zhen asked indifferently without looking at me.

"Um?"

"Wang Sihong, is he good to you?"

"Hmm~"

Chu Zhen turned slightly and looked at me.

"Lin Dang, all I want is for you to be happy!" He said this with a strong smell of tobacco, which showed how many cigarettes he had smoked last night, but his eyes were exceptionally firm.

"So, you're thinking of handing me over to someone else?" I said with a smile.

Chu Zhen looked at me with a puzzled expression, not understanding what I meant, or perhaps she understood but wasn't sure.

"Turns out I'm not that important after all, not even worth you trying to keep me~" I smiled.

Suddenly, Chu Zhen unbuckled his seatbelt and pressed his lips to mine. Only when I tasted the blood in my mouth did Chu Zhen slowly release me.

I pulled out a tissue and wiped my lips. Sure enough, there was blood on the tissue. Chu Zhen's kisses were always domineering, but this time it was exceptionally intense.

"I'm sorry~" Chu Zhen touched my cracked lips, her eyes full of heartache.

"It's alright, the skin on the lips heals quickly and doesn't easily leave scars." Although my lips were swollen and painful, I just brushed it off lightly so as not to make Chu Zhen feel guilty.

"Chu Zhen, don't smoke anymore~" Compared to the pain in my lips, what I can't stand is the smell of smoke in my mouth.

"We'll see!" Chu Zhen said, taking out another cigarette. Only then did I realize that there was a carton of cigarettes in the car, and obviously, four packs were missing. Each pack contained twenty cigarettes, meaning he had been smoking non-stop all night.

"I can't stand the smell of smoke."

Chu Zhen paused for a moment, then stubbed out the cigarette he had just lit. He then took out some chewing gum, and the car was instantly filled with the refreshing scent of mint.

"Are you currently committing adultery?"

"No, I was just fulfilling my duties as a girlfriend." I didn't look at him, but opened the window and looked outside, because I could clearly feel my face burning after saying that.
