Chapter 10: Out of sight, out of mind

Chapter 10: Out of sight, out of mind

By the afternoon when the sun was about to set, she felt like her waist was about to break and her legs were almost not her own.

While others finished their work and walked down the mountain with their farm tools, she sat on the ground and didn't want to move at all.

Lu Minghai's wife, Gao Xiulan, called out, "Hey, that young educated youth, hurry down the mountain! It's going to be dark soon, and it's not safe up there. There are wolves!"

Wen Wan responded, but in her heart she was thinking: "Let the wolf come and eat me."

This is only the first day, and there are countless days to come. How should we get through this day?

I climbed up several times and sat down again. My legs were sore and weak that I couldn't get up.

Lu Dongping went to the woods above to take care of something, then came out and picked up the pickaxe from the ground. He raised his eyebrows and watched her slowly get up and sit down again.

It's no different from a turtle.

He sighed and walked over, reaching out and pulling the man up: "Didn't you hear what my aunt said, there are wolves in the mountains, aren't you afraid?"

Wen Wan sniffed, picked up the dustpan and said, "My legs and waist hurt. I can't walk anymore. I'd rather let the wolves eat me." As she spoke, her voice broke a little.

Lu Dongping rolled his eyes and sighed: "With your tiny body, do you think the wolves dare not eat you? Hurry up, or I will leave too, and you will be really alone."

Wen Wan carried the winnowing basket and walked down with heavy steps. She could feel her legs trembling with every step.

It is easy to go up the mountain but difficult to go down, especially when you are exhausted.

Before they had walked far, Wen Wan's foot got hooked on a tree root that was hanging in the middle of the road, and she fell out, with the winnowing basket she was carrying falling on her.

It hurt so much that she couldn't breathe for a long time. She didn't want to endure the pain anymore.

She didn't want to cut in line anymore. She wanted to go home. Even though her stepmother and stepbrother were very annoying, she still wanted to go back. She missed Lao Wen.

When Lu Dongping walked a distance and heard some noise, it was too late to turn back and he had already fallen.

He threw his pickaxe aside, strode back, and pulled the man up: "Hey, young educated youth, are you okay? Where did you fall? How can you fall while walking? You said you would be fine if you stayed in the city, why did you come to the countryside..."

As I was speaking, I met those misty eyes and couldn't utter a word.

"No, don't cry. I didn't mean to say anything. Where did you fall? Let me see."

Wen Wan pursed her lips, sniffed her nose, and tears suddenly rolled down her cheeks: "I don't want to be here anymore, I want to go home, I want to go home!"

Lu Dongping grabbed her hands and took a look. Both of her palms were covered with blisters, and there was a large wound under her palms.

"Besides your hands, where else? Did you break your legs?"

Wen Wan had no idea. She just felt pain all over her body. She had never felt so uncomfortable in her life.

People wear thick clothes in winter, including long johns and woolen pants, and Lu Dongping can't take off their pants to look.

He sighed and said, "Don't cry, don't cry. I'll carry you back and you'll be fine after a night's rest. Okay? Don't cry, ancestor!" He was really unlucky. Why did he have to go to the county to pick someone up? If he didn't go, how could he meet such a little thing.

I don't care, but I can't bear it. After all, he brought it back.

Let's talk about taking care of it. How can he do it? It's only been three days since we met. We are not familiar with each other. Why should he take care of it?

Resigned to his fate, he squatted down and carried her on his back, his hands restraining her legs while he held the pickaxe as well. As they walked, he said, "I'm telling you, coming down to the countryside to join the team isn't playing house. Now that you're here, it won't be easy to leave. Without instructions from above, your family can't return to the city. You might have to spend your whole life in this remote mountain village like ours. I don't know what you're thinking. Why are you so positive and so down-to-earth that you come here?"

Wen Wan continued to cry.

The reason why she couldn't get over it was because of Old Wen.

Her mother, Xu Ruyin, had been dead for several years, so Old Wen had no problem finding her again. But the woman he found was the woman he had known in the countryside. He and her had a child together a long time ago, and the woman was more than ten years older than her, so she had to call him brother.

She felt that Old Wen was a traitor who had let that woman down, and that Old Wen was a liar who had deceived her mother for more than ten years. Now that the woman had moved into the military compound and the Wen family with her son, she was no longer needed.

Her mother was gone, and her father belonged to someone else. It was no longer her home.

So she wanted to go far away and never go back.

It just so happened that the higher authorities called on educated youth to go to the countryside to work in the fields and support the rural areas, so she signed up. Old Wen was very supportive and said that she was ideologically aware.

She has no ideological awareness at all. She just wants to go far away so that she won’t be bothered by it.
