Chapter 48 Poisoning
In the room, the doctor had already taken the patient's pulse and was asking about the situation.
Jiang Rufei leaned weakly against the head of the bed, her face as pale as paper, even her lips had lost their color.
"Doctor, how is my granddaughter?" asked the old lady.
The doctor cupped his hands and said solemnly, "Madam, I'm afraid the second young lady may have accidentally eaten something unclean."
"Something unclean? What could it be?"
The doctor asked, "Miss, have you ever eaten any unripe river food or any iced fruits?"
Jiu Tao immediately said, "No, the young lady ate the food sent by the kitchen last night, and she was fine when she woke up this morning."
The doctor frowned. "She was fine this morning. Did the young lady have breakfast or tea this morning?"
"I haven't eaten yet, and I'm drinking tea...ah, I remember now." Jiutao looked at the table. "When the young lady woke up this morning, she said she was thirsty, so I poured her a glass of water. At that time, she said the taste was a little off."
Upon hearing this, the doctor quickly walked to the table, picked up the teacup and looked at it carefully.
There was still some tea left at the bottom of the cup, and it was unusually turbid.
"This water..." The doctor took a little and twisted it between his fingertips. He then took a closer look and tasted it. His face suddenly changed. "This water is mixed with lime powder."
"What?!" the old lady exclaimed in shock. "Why is there lime powder in the water?"
Jiang Rulin's legs went limp and cold sweat broke out on her palms.
She clearly only asked Yunxiang to pour the lime powder into the lotus pot, so how could it appear in Jiang Rufei's water?
"Old Madam, please calm down," the doctor advised hastily, "Luckily, the dosage is not large, and the Second Young Lady took very little. She'll be fine after a few days of recuperation. If the water were any thicker, it would be difficult to deal with."
Jiang Rufei opened her eyes and said weakly, "Grandma, I'm afraid I can't go to the Princess's Mansion today."
The old lady held her hand and said, "Silly child, you are still thinking about this at this time. I will send someone to deliver it first. But we should check this courtyard thoroughly. What kind of messy things can get into the mouth of the young lady?"
"What's your name?" The old lady looked at Jiutao.
Jiutao said timidly, "My name is Jiutao."
The old lady shouted, "Tell me, how did this lime-mixed water get into the young lady's stomach? And how did the lime get into the water?"
Jiu Tao was so frightened that she fell to her knees with a plop, "I didn't know, this water was not drawn by me."
"Besides you, who else is serving in this room?"
"And Yunxiang." Jiutao said.
Jiang Rulin immediately searched the room for Yunxiang, but it seemed that she had not seen Yunxiang since she entered the yard.
The servants looked around but couldn't find any trace of Yunxiang.
The maid took the prescription and went to boil the medicine. The old lady sat beside the couch and turned her head to look at Jiang Rulin.
"Rulin, something big happened at home, why hasn't your mother come yet?"
Jiang Rulin had no time to think about others. All she could think about now was that he had never asked Yunxiang to do this. If Yunxiang was caught and gave her away, she would be finished.
She had wanted to leave to find Yunxiang for a long time, but was afraid that leaving directly would be too abrupt and arouse suspicion. Now she had an excuse.
"Grandma, I don't know why Mother hasn't come yet. Why don't I go to her yard and take a look?"
The old lady waved her hand and said, "Go ahead. I won't be in charge of this matter anymore. She is in charge of the household affairs now, and she has to deal with the matter of the maid poisoning the master."
Jiang Rulin responded and quickly retreated.
Jiang Fei watched Jiang Rulin leave the room, and then said to Madam Jiang, "Grandma, don't worry about me. The doctor said it's not too serious. You should go back and rest. When the sun comes out soon, my room will be too hot, and you won't be able to bear it."
The old lady looked around the room and found it too simple. It was not a place for a young lady to live in. Nanny Zhang's room was better than this. Yao was really too unreasonable.
"I'm so sorry to have wronged you. I remember there's an empty house in Rulin's yard. I'll ask your mother to tidy it up for you before you move in."
Jiang Fei smiled slightly and said, "Thank you, grandma. In this family, grandma loves me the most."
Poor thing, the old lady didn't seem to love Jiang Fei in the past, but she didn't target her like Yao did. Now that she seems to be sensible and well-behaved, she takes care of her a little more.
"Then I'll go back first."
"Nine Peaches." Jiang Fei said, "Send one to my grandmother for me."
The old lady nodded, walked to the door and looked back, seeing Jiang Fei lying alone on the bed. After Jiutao left, there was no one to serve in the room, and the servants always left at some point.
"No need to send me off, Yunniang. You can stay and lend a hand. Later, you can pick two more considerate maids to come over. The maid who poisoned you earlier cannot stay."
Yunniang was Aunt Zhang's name. Aunt Zhang agreed and returned to Jiang Fei's bedside. "If the young lady has any instructions, just tell me. I can still do it."
Jiang Fei forced a faint smile, "Madame Zhang is an elder by Grandmother's side. I am a junior, how can I order you around? I am used to it. I just need Jiutao to serve me. You should go back first. The old lady can't live without you."
Hearing this, Aunt Zhang was delighted. She was the old lady's maid who came with her as a dowry and had stayed with her all her life without getting married. Although the old lady treated her as one of her own, she was still a servant after all, and no master had ever been so respectful to her.
"This is the old lady's order. How can I disobey it?"
Nanny Zhang looked at Jiang Rufei. Among the six or seven young ladies in the Jiang family, none of them looked like her.
I didn't expect that the dirty little girl I bought from outside would grow up to be so beautiful. I don't know which family she came from. Maybe she was originally a precious lady.
Jiang Fei added, "Madam, you should go back. I think grandma hasn't been feeling well these past two days."
Nanny Zhang was still thinking about the old lady, so after hearing her advice, she got up and left.
Jiang Fei looked at Aunt Zhang's back and raised the corners of her lips, "Jiutao, go."
As soon as Nanny Zhang walked out of the yard, Jiutao ran out.
Aunt Zhang quickly called out to her, "Where are you going, little girl?"
Jiu Tao said blankly, "Miss San's handkerchief fell down, and she asked me to take it to her."
"It's just a handkerchief." Aunt Zhang frowned. "Where will the Second Young Lady be served after you leave? Give it to me, and I'll take it to the Third Young Lady on my way."
…
Jiang Rulin almost collapsed to the ground as she walked out of the hospital, but fortunately Cui Ru was quick to support her.
"Miss, are you okay?" Cuiru asked in a low voice.
Jiang Rulin grabbed Cuiru's arm tightly, her nails almost digging into her flesh. "Quick, go find Yunxiang! We must find that bitch before she is found!"
Jiang Rulin walked faster and faster, and Cuiru followed behind with small steps.
The two of them turned around a rockery, and suddenly a figure jumped out from the grass, scaring Cuiru so much that she screamed.
The man knelt down on the ground and raised his head. Who else could it be but Yunxiang that everyone was looking for?
