Chapter 5 Shang Chen, are you sick?
The snow melted, and after enduring that biting cold, G City finally welcomed the long-awaited winter.
The weather is nice, perfect for going out and having fun.
Wen Ling finished her last class on Friday, walked out of the classroom, and discussed with her roommates where they should go for fun this weekend.
Before they could decide on a location, Yang Lan suddenly interrupted and started another topic: "Have you noticed that someone is missing from our class this week?"
Who is it?
"I don't even know how many people are in our class," Zhong Yuting laughed at her. "How could you possibly notice who's absent? It can't be...?"
She raised an eyebrow, the unspoken meaning of which was clear to everyone, and gave Yang Lan a teasing look.
"What the hell?" Yang Lan was speechless, then laughed in exasperation. "It's Jia Xinquan. He hasn't come for a week."
Zhong Yuting exclaimed, "Maybe something happened at home, so he took the day off?"
Zhu Xin, who is usually quiet, pushed up her black-rimmed glasses that had slipped down to the bridge of her nose, shook her head, and said, "No, I went to Sister Liu's office that day to handle some things, and I happened to hear her complaining to other counselors that a student in her class hadn't come for several days without asking for leave, and they couldn't reach him by phone or his family."
"Sister Liu is already considering whether or not to call the police."
Things didn't seem as easy as she'd imagined. Wen Ling frowned, feeling inexplicably uneasy, as if... But Wen He wasn't the impulsive, petty type.
She asked, "Did he come last Friday?"
Wenhe got into a fight with him last Thursday.
"You're here," Yang Lan said. "I was sitting in the last row and people were teasing me for embarrassing myself in front of the whole school."
That means something must have happened over the weekend.
Although Wen Ling didn't think Wen He would do anything, she still sent him a message to ask, just to put her mind at ease, but he didn't reply, for some reason.
After finishing talking about the important parts with the unimportant people, the conversation quickly moved on to the next topic.
"Sister Wenling!"
The sound of running footsteps came from behind, and everyone turned around in unison. Yang Lan didn't recognize her and looked confused: "Who is it, Lingling? Is she calling you?"
Standing at the very edge, Zhu Xin squinted to confirm, then pushed up her black-rimmed glasses: "Yan Qingli, the eldest daughter of Yan's Jewelry Enterprise, her father is a member of the board of directors of our school, and it is said that her mother's family is also a family with a history of over a hundred years and a profound heritage."
Zhong Yuting clicked her tongue enviously twice: "Some people are born in Rome, while others are born to be beasts of burden."
Yang Lan chuckled dryly twice: "Lingling, do you know her?"
This stumped Wen Ling.
To be honest, we only recently learned each other's names.
But to say I don't know them is also an inability to simply ignore them.
She nodded: "Yes, we've met once."
Yan Qingli stopped in front of her. Seeing that the people in front of her were staring at her with some curiosity, she smiled and said, "Excuse me, I would like to have a private chat with Sister Wen Ling."
Yang Lan and the others realized what was happening, said "Oh," and walked a few steps to the side hand in hand, chatting away without looking at them. Yan Qingli glanced at them and then said, "Thank you for your help. Wen Ling and I have something to do later, so you can go back to your dorm first."
The group remained silent, only looking at Wen Ling.
She thought for a moment, nodded, and, not wanting them to wait there any longer, gestured for them to go back first.
Once everyone else was gone, Yan Qingli finally revealed the purpose of her visit: "Sister, shall we go out for dinner together later?"
Wen Ling blinked, surprised.
Yan Qingli added, "I told you last week that I would treat you to a meal next time we meet."
Wen Ling thought she was just being polite at the time, but she didn't expect her to actually invite her.
"Just...me and you?"
Yan Qingli couldn't hide her smile: "Sister, I don't mind if you invite Wen He along."
Wen Ling understood immediately. She thought that inviting her to dinner alone was an attempt to get closer to her. Since she also wanted to invite Wen He, she guessed that Wen He had tried but failed to get her to come along.
Wen Ling pursed her lips and politely declined, "No need."
Upon hearing this, Yan Qingli did not show any disappointment on her face. Instead, she affectionately took her arm and said, "Sister, let's go together. It's a newly opened Japanese restaurant in the city center. I heard it has a high rating online. Sister, will you come with me to eat here?"
"..."
Wen Ling was a little overwhelmed by such enthusiasm; she seemed to understand why Wen He had been so distraught that day.
"Sister..." She was good at acting coquettishly, shaking Wen Ling's arm and blinking her naturally charming eyes. Actually, the contrast was a bit big, but it was also quite pleasing to the eye. "I don't have any friends at school that I can talk to, but I hit it off with you the moment I met you, sister. I feel like we must have known each other in a past life."
Wen Ling's emotions are usually very stable.
Hearing this nonsense, his eyes twitched involuntarily, and he almost lost his composure.
She should just leave the problem to Wen He to solve.
Wen Ling broke free from her embrace, took out her phone, and gestured for her to send a message to Wen He. Yan Qingli let go of her, put her hands behind her back, and waited obediently for her.
Wen He hasn't replied to the message I just sent.
She tapped his profile picture and waited for several seconds, but there was no reply. Wen Ling figured he was either out having fun or playing games in his dorm.
I made a call directly, it rang for two seconds, and then I answered.
"Sis? What's up? Did you text me?" Wen He stared intently at the computer screen, tilting her head and holding the phone between her ear and shoulder. "I was playing a game, I didn't see it. What's up?"
Wen Ling, carrying Yan Qingli on her back, whispered, "That... girl came to find me."
"Who is it..." Wen He paused in clicking the mouse, then suddenly exclaimed, "Holy crap, Yan Qingli?"
His voice is a bit loud.
Shang Chen, who was sitting diagonally across from her friend chatting, raised her eyebrows and her ears perked up immediately.
"Hey, where are you now? I'll come over and talk to her."
After chatting for a couple more minutes, Wen He asked his roommate to continue playing the game for him while he put on his coat, changed his shoes, and went out.
Once the person left, Shang Chen scrolled through Yan Qingli's contact list and found her note: 【What do you want with Wen Ling?】
Yan Qingli: [?]
Yan Qingli: [How did you know?]
Yan Qingli: [Nothing much, just inviting her to dinner.]
Shang Chen's lips curled into a smile. He also stood up, changed his coat and shoes: [Address.]
Yan Qingli's eyes widened: 【What, are you trying to freeload?】
Yan Qingli: [Impossible, don't do this.]
Shang Chen threatened her expressionlessly: "Haven't you shown Wen He the photo of you in your open-crotch pants yet?"
Yan Qingli's face turned black with anger: 【………………】
Yan Qingli: [Shang Chen, are you sick in the head?! Aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!]
Shang Chen: [Understood.]
Yan Qingli felt a chill run down her spine and sent a series of begging emojis.
Then, appealing to his emotions and reasoning with him: "Brother, please, I'm pursuing someone, please don't sabotage things, okay? I'll treat you to a hundred or eighty meals next time, you'll be stuffed, okay?!"
Shang Chen still sent the message "I understand".
Unable to bear it any longer, Yan Qingli could only humiliatingly send him the location information.
…
Wen Ling sensed that Yan Qingli's face had darkened considerably ever since she looked at her phone. She even scratched her hair in frustration at one point. Wen Ling wanted to comfort her, but Yan Qingli seemed lost in her own world, her fingers frantically tapping on the phone screen.
Wen Ling was afraid she would break her manicure.
Not daring to disturb him, she silently waited for Wen He to come over. After a while, Wen He came running over.
He glanced at the two of them.
His face looked rather pale. He stood protectively in front of Wen Ling, his tone towards Yan Qingli harsh: "What are you taking my sister for?"
When he gets stern, he can be a bit fierce.
Wen Lingdu was stunned for a moment, then tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "You... tone better."
Wen He paused for a moment. Was he really that fierce just now?
Yan Qingli was already annoyed, and seeing him acting like he was guarding against her made her inexplicably angry: "Let's eat. I didn't invite you."
Wen He: "..."
He scratched his head: "Just eat it, why are you being so harsh?"
Yan Qingli glared at him, her eyes slightly red: "I don't know who started this out like a firecracker, coming over to question me."
She walked over, bumped into him, and took Wen Ling's arm: "I told you, I was going to dinner with Sister Wen Ling, I didn't invite you."
Wen He was speechless: "My sister didn't agree."
Yan Qingli pouted, turned her head to look at Wen Ling, and looked very aggrieved: "Sister, I really just wanted to have a meal with you..."
Then she whispered in his ear, "I do have ulterior motives. I want to get information out of you, to find out what kind of girl he likes. Sister, I'm not lying to you. I really don't have any friends at school, and I genuinely want to be your friend..."
Wen Ling softened a little.
She looked at Wen He with a troubled expression. Wen He turned his head away and muttered, "Sister, you can make the decision. I don't care anyway. I can even get a free dinner and save money."
Wen Ling was both amused and exasperated, knowing he was just being stubborn.
"Okay, I promise you."
