Chapter 9 He wasn't enthusiastic about it.

Chapter 9 He wasn't enthusiastic about it.

Zhong Yan talked a lot, but didn't mention this aspect.

He only said that he really needed a wife, a wife in the truest sense, and she is now his wife.

Jin Huan needed a bit more time to process this identity. After arriving at this house, she considered it her home. Looking at Mr. Zhong in front of her, she belatedly realized that this was... her husband.

The relationship between a wife and husband.

They are a married couple.

He had just finished exercising, his chest muscles slightly engorged with blood, revealing a section of his elbow with blue veins bulging on the back of his hand. His gaze was slightly lowered, sweeping over the tip of her nose and lightly landing on her chin. He just quietly watched her face. When she asked him that question, a tolerant smile curved his eyes. Instead of answering her question, he asked, "Tonight?"

Jin Huan blushed slightly, feeling a little embarrassed to bring up the matter herself, but there was another reason.

She looked a little upset and said, "I've gotten my period."

She got her period this morning, but she was so caught up in the news about getting her marriage certificate that she forgot about it for a while. She only remembered it when she went to the bathroom.

Her annoyance was obvious, so much so that Zhong Yan couldn't help but smile and say gently, "It doesn't necessarily have to be tonight."

Zhong Yan wasn't enthusiastic about this matter, which led to the rumors in his family. It was probably rare to see someone in his thirties who wasn't interested in matters of love and sex. He had never had any romantic partners, let alone any sexual partners. Whenever he went out for social events, there were always such occasions, but he never got involved.

That's how the message got out, one time after another.

He certainly doesn't deny that he's indifferent to this.

The human body does need some outlet for energy, and it has always had other ways, such as working or exercising. Humans are not just flesh and blood made up of cells, and we should not only focus on this aspect.

If he does have a need, it's only very occasionally, and he'll handle it himself.

It probably only happens once every few months.

The frequency is not high.

Putting aside the issue of whether or not she has her period, Zhong Yan wouldn't prioritize that. She's just arrived and hasn't settled in yet, so he at least needs to consider her feelings.

So he doesn't seem to care about this.

Zhong Yan changed the subject, and after thinking for a moment, said, "Since you are on your period, I'll ask the aunt to make some more soup."

Remembering something, he asked again, "Does your stomach hurt?"

Many girls have this problem; menstrual cramps are unpleasant. She usually looks like a slightly weak sapling that needs someone to diligently fertilize her to grow enough blood and energy.

Sure enough, she nodded: "A little bit."

Menstrual cramps vary depending on the situation. They are more pronounced in the cold winter, with a feeling of heaviness and pain in the lower abdomen. In the summer, they are less severe, with only a slight backache.

So when she said just a little bit, it really was just a little bit.

Hearing her say that, and seeing that she was indeed in good condition, Zhong Yan was finally relieved.

He put down his water glass and asked her, "Do you want to use the bathroom now?"

Jin Huan shook his head.

Zhong Yan then said, "Then I'll go take a shower first."

Even in such cold weather, he maintained a basic frequency of showering every day. It was just a simple cleaning after sweating from exercise, which didn't take much time. When he came out of the bathroom, it was already dark, and he saw the girl leaning on the balcony railing looking out.

She lay there, only her slender back visible, making her appear very small. Her hair was gently tucked behind her ears, and she seemed to be staring blankly at something. A golden light fell on her head, illuminating the soft, warm-looking surface.

Zhong Yan stared at it for more than ten seconds.

It wasn't until the wind blew and her hair brushed against her chin that he realized what was happening, grabbed a blanket from the sofa, and went outside.

"I heard that immunity is a little weaker during menstruation." Zhong Yan walked behind her and covered her with the blanket when she turned around. "Be careful not to catch a cold."

"Oh... thank you." Jin Huan turned around and smiled at him.

She held the blanket in both hands, pointed ahead, and said she was looking at the tree.

Since she was little, she liked to stare at trees when she was thinking. The lush trees that were still green in this season seemed unusual to her. She didn't know what she was thinking, but she was so engrossed in staring at them.

Jin Huan withdrew her gaze, which still held a hint of warmth, and it fell on Zhong Yan. Every time she saw him, her face would quietly turn red. Strangely enough, although she looked shy, her eyes did not look away at all, as if she wanted to take a few more glances at him.

Zhong Yan didn't mind such a gentle and lovely gaze. His tone softened as he looked down and asked, "Why are you staring at me like that?"

Jin Huan tilted her chin up slightly to look into his deep eyes beneath the folds of his eyelids, and softly asked, "Can't I look?"

No, that's not it.

Zhong Yan said, "Of course."

Jin Huan shyly looked away at that moment.

Of course, she only watched it because she liked it. Mr. Zhong exuded tolerance and maturity in every part of his body. His features were three-dimensional and his eyes were deep. He was exactly the kind of person she liked so much. Now that she was so close to him, she couldn't help but think that his embrace must be very warm.

He had just taken a shower and changed into a soft set of loungewear. The neckline was slightly lowered, revealing the skin texture on his chest, which was warm from the steam, much like Jin Huan's restless breathing.

Zhong Yan was much calmer than her.

She was still too young and inexperienced; standing in front of him, she looked like a child, and he would easily blush at her glance.

Sigh, we're only nine years apart, not even ten, so how come there's such a big gap between us?

Zhong Yan had no idea what she was thinking at that moment, and he didn't ask. He just told her it was time to go eat.

During the meal, Zhong Yan talked to her about her situation at school.

When talking about this, Jin Huan straightened her back unconsciously, as if she were giving a report in front of a teacher. She said that her research in this stage has ended and she will start a new stage next semester. She is currently collecting data.

Hearing her speak, Zhong Yan did not interrupt. He waited until she finished before speaking: "I mean, what time are you going to school tomorrow? I'll have the driver take you."

"I'll finish work early tomorrow and come pick you up once you're all packed."

So that's what Mr. Zhong wanted to ask her.

Jin Huan smiled sheepishly before saying, "I don't need to go to the lab these next few days; I can go whenever I want."

She moved into the school dormitory for convenience to go to the lab. It was originally a double room, but her roommate moved out, so she had been living alone in the dormitory. Now that she has moved out as well, the dormitory will be empty.

Zhong Yan agreed and told Jin Huan that she could call the driver to take her wherever she wanted to go.

Jin Huan nodded obediently.

After enjoying the meal, I took a shower.

Mr. Zhong also prepared new toiletries for her in the bathroom, including shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner, making her feel completely at home.

Jin Huan takes a little longer to shower, and she's even slower if she's going to wash her hair. Actually, today wasn't the day she originally planned to wash her hair. Washing your hair is something you can't do any more or less than a day, but considering it's your first day here, Jin Huan still disrupted her plans.

She washed her hair very carefully.

Before Jin Huan could ask, he apologized, "I just received a call and have to take care of something."

Zhong Yan rarely has such sudden work assignments. He always arranges his time very well and has fixed working hours every day, but his secretary just called him and said that he has to go there in person for this matter.

Zhong Yan felt truly guilty. Today was an anniversary, and he was leaving her alone at home at this time, which was really wrong of him.

Jin Huan was taken aback for a moment, then asked, "When will you be back?"

Zhong Yan was unsure.

He told Jin Huan to rest first.

There was definitely some disappointment, but Jin Huan knew he had no choice. After all, someone in his position had to deal with too many things, unlike her who only had school matters to attend to.

Jin Huan didn't say anything. Her uncle often had unexpected work assignments, so she could completely understand. She nodded and said, "Please be careful."

After Zhong Yan left, Jin Huan sat alone in the room for a while before returning and slowly drying her hair.

Her hair, draped over her back and warmed by the breeze, sighed, leaned against the sofa armrest, and stared blankly at a coat that Zhong Yan had hung on the clothes rack.

She couldn't quite describe the discomfort, but she felt a tightness in her chest, as if a valve had been squeezed against her heart's blood vessels, causing a brief, stagnant feeling for a few seconds, and her breathing stopped for half a second.

Jin Huan usually sleeps well, but today, perhaps because of the change in environment, she unexpectedly couldn't fall asleep. The sheets and blankets were all new, so new that there was absolutely no trace of human presence. When she lay down, she only slept in a corner, taking up a very small space.

She closed her eyes for a long time, feeling a bit dazed. She imagined the wind from the balcony blowing through her hair, which was indeed very cool, but she didn't feel the coolness when she was in a daze.

Jin Huan rolled over in bed, trying to fall asleep again.

By the time she finally felt sleepy, she had lost track of time.

But my sleepiness is very light.

Zhong Yan went to the company because there was a problem with his project. Since the partner was in Europe and there was a time difference, he could only communicate via video conference at this time to quickly resolve the issue and return as soon as possible.

As the night deepened and the dew grew heavy, Zhong Yan felt a chill in his clothes. After entering the room, he took off his coat and waited in the living room for a while until his skin temperature gradually returned to normal before changing his clothes and gently pushing open the bedroom door.

At a glance, you can see a small arch on the bed. Even though the bed is so big, she only sleeps on the side, with only half of her head touching the pillow, revealing her black, fluffy head. Judging from the curve of the blanket, her body is slightly curled up.

Zhong Yan walked to the bedside and stared at her for a few seconds.

The girl on the bed lay quietly with her eyes closed, her breathing shallow, almost imperceptible. Zhong Yan remained calm, not wanting to disturb her sleep, and decided to rest in the second bedroom first tonight.

Just as I was about to leave, the person in the blanket let out a soft groan. Upon closer inspection, I noticed her brow was slightly furrowed, and one hand was gripping the blanket at her side, as if she were being tormented by a nightmare.

Zhong Yan was good at understanding people's hearts, but he couldn't fully understand a girl as young as her. His gaze darkened, and he noticed that her cheeks were unusually flushed.

He took half a step forward, sat down on the edge of the bed, and reached out to touch her forehead.

It's a little hot.

A girl on her period wore only light clothing and went outside for a while in the wind. As a result, she developed a fever in the middle of the night and fell asleep without making a sound.

How come your body is so weak, like a sick kitten?

Zhong Yan lowered his eyelids, looked at her, and sighed softly.
