Chapter Forty-Six: Duanmu Pavilion

Crane Garden is located in a secluded place, and after nightfall, it is quiet. Only the dim streetlights extend one by one to the end of the road, and the thin snowflakes fall from the darkness, creating a delicate beauty.

Duanmu Ci sat in the car, not in a hurry to start the engine, but silently lost in thought.

He had a long life that was both enviable and tragic. The meaning of his life gradually disappeared with the passage of time. He had no relatives or friends. They were all dead, sleeping quietly in their graves. They would never suddenly jump up and appear at your window to do those crazy things with you again. Sometimes he would visit their tombstones with a bouquet of white chrysanthemums.

Every time he flew over certain cities, he would look out the window, as if he could see the world beneath the clouds. He had left his mark in many places, but now none of those places bear his traces. Time had almost erased everything; the vicissitudes of life were more than just a saying to him.

He studied at Oxford and Cambridge in the early 20th century, learning about advanced Western civilization. At that time, students were still fascinated by art. They discussed Michelangelo and Raphael in St. Mary's Church and along the River Cam, and recited Shelley's poems aloud as the sun set.

A hundred years later, when he returned as a tourist, the students who loved to discuss sculpture beneath the magnificent St. Mary's Church were gone; the students who loved to recite Shelley's poems aloud to the gentle sound of the River Cam were gone; the students who loved to contemplate before the statues of the masters were gone—

Nowadays, students just want to find a good job in a bank after graduation.

Amidst such dramatic changes, Duanmu Ci is fortunate enough to meet old friends from decades ago. Although they are old friends whom he does not recognize, it still brings him great comfort.

This is almost a kind of happiness.

"Dear ****"

Tonight, the new club will be holding its first gathering and social dinner at Duanmu Hall at 8:30 PM. Anyone who receives this text message must dress formally and attend on time. Don't be late; this will be your day of honor.

p: Female companions are allowed, but male companions are not permitted.

Tang Luoluo

After several weeks of intensive renovations, the newly built clubhouse of Haishan University was finally completed on a certain day in April; at the same time, the owner of the clubhouse, Teacher Duanmu, also completed his overall recruitment plan, and both the venue and the personnel were basically in place.

At the same time, with the suggestion of the heroes, the guild hall was officially named "Duanmu Hall" to acknowledge its owner, and the name was also quite good.

Of course, this was accompanied by the good news that the school had approved Teacher Duanmu's application to establish a club. With such favorable circumstances and favorable conditions, the audacious Tang Luoluo, without obtaining Duanmu Ci's consent, sent the text message to all the new club members before reporting it to Duanmu Ci.

However, it was too late. According to Tang Luoluo, "We must hold a grand gathering to enhance the cohesion of the club! Besides, since the teacher chose me to be in charge of this, I should have the authority to do so!" Duanmu Ci agreed to his statement when there was no way to change the situation and began to make preparations.

However, this is indeed a good idea...

All the club members who received the text message are now waiting with peace of mind.

Finally, the sky began to darken, a black curtain spread out, and night fell.

One by one, the school's streetlights began to light up, illuminating the alleyways in a dim yellow glow.

The lights inside the Duanmu Pavilion also came on, like a giant, burning candle, radiating intense light. A flood of light streamed through the glass windows, making it appear as magnificent as a palace.

Xu Youmei also received the text message. As the manager of the top club at Haishan University, she was certainly entitled to receive this message, especially since her brother was the president of the sailing club.

The location of Duanmu Pavilion was, frankly, quite coincidental. It was built not far from the School of Literature, appearing almost like an internal club. Duanmu Ci felt lucky; he could walk there in no time. Bu Tongxun, however, thought it was a stroke of good luck, because it was the location she had chosen…

Xu Youmei followed her brother and a group of sailing club core members to the newly built Duanmu Hall. They couldn't find their way at first, but as they approached the School of Literature, they suddenly noticed a dazzling light shining through the gaps in the branches. They guessed that it must be Duanmu Hall, because they had never noticed how bright it was when they came here before.

Then I asked, and sure enough.

Xu Youmei, dressed in a fitted dark blue suit and a cream-colored blouse, walked quietly among a group of men in black suits, like a bright color in a somber oil painting.

"This Duanmu Hall is really big, probably twice the size of the Kendo Hall," said Xu Chuncheng, president of the Sailing Club, with a slight sigh as he saw the large hall from afar.

The Duanmu Building at night is truly magnificent. Brilliant lights shine through the stained glass windows, and a huge corner is hidden in the darkness. There are many people coming and going outside the Greek-style columned gate corridor, and some people in black uniforms are greeting guests. They are the school's etiquette club.

A member of the sailing club asked, "Is this whole place Mr. Duanmu's?"

Xu Chuncheng frowned and said, "I don't know, but the rumor is that he donated it to the school, and then the school returned it to use for clubs. But I don't know if it's true or not. Maybe the school was just being kind. Who knows?"

He shrugged.
