Chapter Ninety-Eight: Non-Refundable Bonus Items

Duanmu Ci's visit to the Rare Club was to gauge public opinion and gauge the prevailing sentiment. As he expected, most people, or rather, most families, seemed to welcome the current turmoil within the management council and had no one prepared to intervene as a chivalrous hero. +◆

Are you kidding me? We're friends, but business is business. Normally, if you come to me for drinks, I'll treat you to the finest champagne, as much as you want, without batting an eye. But you want me to help you fight Morgan? Sorry, I'm sick right now, no guests!

This can't really be called cold-heartedness. After all, these are all wealthy and powerful families, with tens of thousands of people working for them. They can't just smash their livelihoods. Even with Aslan, if this incident hadn't involved his family, the Hilton family would have at most cast a dissenting vote, without taking any further action.

Besides, this isn't a life-or-death crisis; at most, it's just being expelled from the management committee. They don't need to shed tears for Crocodile. They're young, what's a little loss of face? They'll sleep it off, wash their face, and be good as new!

These bastards took things too lightly, completely ignoring the side effects. Duanmu Ci looked at Ivan and suddenly said, "I rarely come all this way, so I want to have some fun. I wonder if you'd be willing to be my tour guide?"

Ivan was stunned for a moment, seemingly not expecting that Duanmu Ci would still have the leisure to travel at this point. He was really... courting death.

He smiled and said, "I'd be happy to oblige."

“Then let’s go to the Monte Carlo Casino!” Duanmu Ci suggested enthusiastically.

"Huh?" Ivan was dumbfounded.

...

...

The Monte Carlo Casino was built in 1856 as the first casino in the northern part of Monaco, opened by Prince Charles III to address a financial crisis. The area was named Monte Carlo in honor of this prince, whose actions were both extreme and controversial.

Legend has it that the Monte Carlo Casino was designed by the same architect as the Paris Opera, Gammon, and its interior ceilings and walls are classically magnificent. Resembling a luxurious palace, it is one of the world's three largest casinos and is known as the "most luxurious casino."

Ivan and Duanmu Ci rode in a magnificent carriage through medieval buildings. By this time, the rain had lightened, only dampening the brim of the coachman's hat.

“Back then, Monaco was in dire financial straits, and the Prince of Monaco had no choice but to open this casino. It turned out to be very effective. After the casino was taken over by the government in 1967, by the end of the last century, the casino’s annual revenue had exceeded 40 million francs,” Ivan said confidently. “However, locals are not allowed to gamble here, so they still earn the gold coins of us outsiders.”

He concluded by saying, "I wonder if you've brought enough money? I don't want to play slot machines with you in the sheds outside the casino!" The son of Russia's richest man is used to looking down on others when it comes to wealth.

Duanmu Ci glanced at him and said slowly, "I'm just afraid you didn't bring enough."

"Huh?" Ivan asked, puzzled.

"If you don't bring enough, whose money can I win?" Duanmu Ci said quietly.

Ivan's face darkened.

Duanmu Ci and Ivan alighted from the carriage at the casino entrance. Duanmu Ci walked straight towards the door, leaving Ivan alone behind, his face dark, to pay the bill. It wasn't that Ivan was stingy with the 100 francs; he was mainly annoyed that Duanmu Ci had taken advantage of him.

When they were still some distance from the entrance, a neatly dressed waiter opened the door from behind, and Duanmu Ci nodded in acknowledgment. He then handed the waiter a 100-franc tip, which served as both a tip and an entrance fee. Casino rules dictate that a 10-euro entrance fee is required to enter...

"Do you know Dostoevsky?" Duanmu Ci suddenly asked.

“Of course I know,” Ivan said proudly, puffing out his chest. “He’s one of our great Russian writers!”

"Your great writer once wrote a novel called 'The Gambler.' The writing in it was absolutely infuriating." Duanmu Ci suddenly smiled, as if recalling something. "Back then, he suffered a truly unforgettable defeat here."

"You know that?" Ivan looked at Duanmu Ci with suspicion.

"Of course I know," Duanmu Ci said calmly, then added in his mind, "because I'm the one who will beat him!"

Monte Carlo's interior is extremely luxurious, with a decor style dating back to the early 20th century. The ceilings and walls are classically magnificent, covered with grand murals, and the decorations and curtains are extremely ornate. Coupled with the crystal chandeliers that sparkle like diamonds during the day and the red carpets that cover the entire building, its grandeur is truly extraordinary.

It evokes memories of the days when European social elites flocked here. In that era of technological explosion and a significant improvement in people's living standards, the spiritual lives of the aristocracy became increasingly empty. They filled this void by gambling away fortunes at casinos. There were many famous gamblers here, including the Prince of Monaco, British nobles, and speculators from various countries. The air was thick with the scent of extravagance and debauchery.

Upon entering, they were greeted by a huge stage where they could watch opera performances. Duanmu Ci and his companion walked around the stage and pushed open another door, thus officially entering the casino.

Duanmu Ci and Ivan handed their bank cards to a passing waiter's tray, asking him to exchange them for chips. It wasn't much, just 200,000 francs; it seemed they were just playing around.

"What do you want to play?" Ivan asked, holding a bag of brightly colored chips.
