Chapter Ninety-One: White Crane in the Clouds

Just like the spectacular battle in Kabukicho, this scene is equally visually striking. £∝

Inside the main hall, the leaders and distinguished guests of the shrine held a meeting, their words deciding the fate of a shrine that had stood for nearly a century. Outside the shrine, solemn-faced bodyguards in black uniforms stood guard, the long Shinto path deserted, and even the torii gates seemed desolate. A torrential downpour pounded on the fallen cherry blossoms, making a crisp, clear sound.

Outside, the weather was bleak and rainy, but inside the temple, it was warm as spring. An unseen heat source was quietly radiating heat from an unknown place, bringing warmth to the temple like a subtropical sea breeze. The priest in white robes standing to one side began to sweat, but this was not because of the excessive heat, but because the conversation he was hearing was truly horrifying.

"I can carry out a decapitation operation against the entire high command of the Yama-ri Group." The young voice resonated powerfully in the empty main hall.

Decapitation strike is a term representing a method of warfare. It originated from Colonel Vought's Five Rings theory in the U.S. Air Force, with the first ring being the enemy's head. Colonel Vought believed that as long as the enemy's "brain" was eliminated, the remaining "body" would be insignificant, and victory in the war would be easily achieved.

Ancient Chinese military strategists also had a poetic summary of this ingenious method of warfare: "To capture the thief, first capture the king."

In fact, Duanmu Ci and Wei Yue used the same tactic in the earlier battle in Kabukicho. If they hadn't been the first to control Nakamura Haruo and Yamashita No, thus breaking their fighting spirit, they would have been defeated long ago, and might even have been killed.

"We only need to eliminate all, or rather most, of the Yamahi Group's high-ranking members, then there's no need for this war to continue. Even if the enemy has tens of thousands of troops, it will be useless. Victory still belongs to the Inajukai and to Tsuruta-kun," Duanmu Ci concluded.

Without a doubt, in this war, the high command of the Shanri Group is the head, and the tens of thousands of thugs under its command are the body. And the direction their swords are pointed is the "head" of the Shanri Group!

Tsuruta Tsuna involuntarily sat up straight. "Duanmu-kun's words are really encouraging! But it's going to be very difficult! The Yamahi Group's headquarters is in Kobe, guarded by hundreds of bodyguards, and it's surrounded by high walls and deep courtyards, making it no less than a small fortress! If we were to launch a direct assault, not to mention whether we would have any chance of winning, the police station alone wouldn't let such a 'big scene' go by. Our photos would definitely be on the wanted poster by breakfast the next day."

Duanmu Ci shook his head. "Does Tsuruta-kun know about Weiyang Palace?"

“Weiyang Palace?” Tsuruta Tsuna was taken aback. “I’ve seen it in history books before. It was the imperial palace of your Han Dynasty emperors. I heard it was much larger than the Forbidden City.”

"Mr. Tsuruta is truly learned," Duanmu Ci exclaimed, then said, "According to the archaeological excavation of Weiyang Palace by the state in 1985, many crisscrossing tunnels were discovered underground. These tunnels crisscrossed and connected various important palaces, and could even lead out of the palace. This is unique in the excavation of palace ruins worldwide."

Tsuruta Tsuna frowned. "I don't quite understand what Duanmu-kun means. I also don't quite understand the thoughts of those Han Dynasty emperors. Please explain directly, Duanmu-kun!"

Duanmu Ci said, "The emperor dug tunnels under his palace, of course, to prevent rebellious officials from attacking the palace and to allow the emperor and his concubines to escape safely through the tunnels."

This statement is complete nonsense. The Weiyang Palace was built by Duanmu Ci in assistance to the then Prime Minister Xiao He. These tunnels were secretly dug by his trusted supervisors in order to prepare for unforeseen circumstances, to leave himself a way out so that he would not be too controlled by the emperor and would have a way to escape.

"What does Duanmu-kun mean?" Tsuruta Tsuna frowned.

"There are also tunnels beneath the headquarters of the Yamuri Group!" Duanmu Ci's words were astonishing.

"What!" Tsuruta Tsuna exclaimed in surprise, dropping his folding fan to the ground.

As the mortal enemy of the Yama-il Group, he understood all too well what this intelligence meant to him. It meant that he could send people to "wipe out" his nemesis in a secret and very nimble way, without anyone noticing or alerting those annoying "pesterers" in the Metropolitan Police Department.

This matter was just as tempting to Tsuruta no more than Oda Nobunaga felt when he marched on Kyoto and faced the unsuspecting city.

But something seems off about this...

Suppressing his excitement, Tsuruta Tsuna calmly asked, "How did Duanmu-kun find out about this?"

This is a very important question, or rather, the key to the whole matter. If this young man really has the ability to dig tunnels at will, then even if Tsuruta Tsuna hesitates to kill him outright, he will definitely take extra precautions. After all, no one wants to be killed by an enemy who suddenly appears from underground while they are sleeping.

This is practically a modern-day Sengoku period ninja!

Duanmu Ci calmly replied, "The headquarters of the Yamuri Group was originally an ancient building, which was the residence of the daimyo of Harima Province during the Warring States period. Later, the Yamuri Group bought it and carried out a large-scale expansion. During the expansion, the construction team discovered those tunnels, but because they were afraid that the Yamuri Group would kill them to cover it up, they concealed this matter. Later, I found out about it by chance, but I didn't expect it would actually come in handy."

"Those tunnels must have been built by the daimyo of Harima Province back then. After all, the flames of war during the Sengoku period were incredibly fierce, so it's only natural that the daimyo would take some protective measures and preparations. Please dispel any doubts you may have, Tsuruta-kun!"
