Chapter Sixty-Four: The Ever-Compressed Negotiation Time

After a beautiful experience of classical art, Duanmu Ci accompanied Joseph away from the Haishan Grand Theatre. Although it was already some time, there was still a while before dinner. During this lull, Duanmu Ci took the initiative to propose negotiations, which Joseph readily agreed to, feeling that things were finally on the right track.

Only Wei Yue, a longtime close friend of Duanmu Ci, smiled slightly after hearing Duanmu Ci's words, like a general who had seen through the enemy's trick, displaying a "disgusting" expression of knowing everything...

The negotiation took place in the front of an office building, which was not actually owned by the Duanmu family. Duanmu Ci had only rented the three most prominent floors. This grandeur was certainly inconsistent with the Duanmu family's status and identity, but there was nothing that could be done. After all, the family had just decided to expand into the domestic market, and their foundation was still shallow, so they had not yet had time to put on a show.

Joseph, with his years of experience navigating the business world, immediately saw through the situation. The white-collar workers on the floors below showed absolutely no reaction to their group. Under normal circumstances, he would have turned and left immediately. As a key figure in the F Group, he couldn't possibly engage in any so-called negotiations or cooperation with a company that didn't even have a proper office building; that would be beneath the F Group's dignity.

Fortunately, this family was different. The chairman of F was also a member of the RAR Club. He knew the strength of the Duanmu family. Although they were not as powerful as the Morgan and Rockefeller families, who were also management families, they had no problem cooperating with F Group at the same level. Joseph had also learned this from his chairman's office before leaving.

Moreover, Joseph had a very good impression of Duanmu Ci, and he thought it would be a pleasant negotiation.

However, Duanmu Ci sensitively and accurately caught the fleeting surprise in Joseph's eyes. He was still a little annoyed and began to think about where to buy an office building or tower. But it would probably be difficult to find a suitable one in Haishan.

Perhaps... buying a plot of land and building one yourself would be a good option?

Duanmu Ci thought about it more and more and felt that it was a good idea. He planned to discuss it with Bu Tongxun after he got home tonight, and then ask the Tang family if they had any suitable options to recommend. If possible, he would finalize the matter as soon as possible, and then have Gongshumo Construction Company come to China to start construction, and strive to move in in the next year or the year after.

As for the question of how much it would cost to buy a plot of land in Haishan, Duanmu Ci didn't even consider it, because compared to other issues, it wasn't a problem at all. Instead of spending time thinking about that, he'd rather figure out how to get approval from the municipal government.

Duanmu Ci suddenly remembered Liu Qiancheng, the second son of the Liu family whom he had met briefly and at the same table at the Tang family banquet at the Hilton Hotel.

Perhaps we could try to get in touch with him...

Just as Duanmu Ci was still pondering this, Joseph suddenly asked, "Duanmu, which department are you the manager of here?"

The company manager identity was a fake one that Duanmu had given himself, and it was only for this one time. After that, it would be invalid. Otherwise, if he used his real identity, Joseph and others would not be qualified to appear on the other side of the negotiating table. Only the chairman of F Group would be qualified and on equal footing. However, this was completely unnecessary, and the other party's chairman might not even be willing to come.

So Duanmu Ci only considered it briefly before answering, "It's the Marketing Manager."

Marketing department? That's a very important department!

Joseph couldn't help but show his admiration, "What a promising young man!"

He spoke these words without a trace of flattery; they came from the heart. After all, in his eyes, a "young man" who looked to be only in his twenties, definitely not over thirty, could actually manage a crucial core department of a company, and didn't even seem incompetent; he appeared quite capable. That definitely made him a promising young man with a bright future.

He just hadn't expected that Duanmu Ci was not only "promising," but also quite old...

...

...

After both sides were seated at the negotiating table, Joseph, who was about to open the documents, noticed that his side seemed to have fewer people than the other side, and looked somewhat weak... However, he didn't care too much. In his view, the other side only had one core figure, Duanmu Ci, and as long as he controlled this one, that would be enough.

This psychological process reveals the importance of the first impression a negotiator makes. As a negotiator, one's words will become the basis for the other party's trust in the future. Therefore, the first thing a negotiator should do during negotiations is not to defeat the other party, but to try to win their favor and establish a relationship of mutual respect and interdependence. Only in this way can the negotiator's exchanged opinions be clearly understood and accepted by the other party.

This is a philosophy of negotiation, and fortunately, Duanmu Ci has done a very good job in this regard.

As for having more people on his side than the other side, this was of course intentional on Duanmu Ci's part. When picking up Joseph's group at the airport yesterday, Duanmu Ci paid special attention to the number of people in their party, and then deliberately arranged for more of his own people to attend, striving to outnumber the enemy and exert subconscious psychological pressure on them.

Next came the formal negotiations. Joseph cleared his throat twice and then cut to the chase, "We will provide you with iron ore of 63.5% purity, and we are looking for a price of $100 per ton." Joseph felt he was quite familiar with Duanmu Ci, otherwise he wouldn't have chosen such a direct opening.
