Chapter 9: Slap Xue Wanyu in the face!

Ignoring Xue Wanyu's smile that froze for a moment, Xie Xihe walked out of the ward and came back five minutes later with a laptop in his hand that he had gotten from somewhere.

What is displayed above at the moment is a paused video.

She placed the computer on the small table above the hospital bed and casually pressed the enter key. The originally still picture immediately began to move.

The background is the Xie family's living room, where a girl is sitting on the sofa reading a book...or perhaps it would be more appropriate to say flipping through the book.

The girl's white and tender fingertips fell on the edge of the book, and she kept turning the papers at hand. In just a short while, she had turned through half of the book.

The girl lowered her head, and her face could not be seen clearly from the angle of the camera, but everyone knew just by looking at the way she read. Who else could it be but Xie Xihe, who had been interested in everything since childhood but never concentrated on learning?

At this moment, another figure appeared at the edge of the screen. After a brief pause, he walked quickly forward and finally sat down next to the girl.

It’s Xue Wanyu.

"Xiao Xi." Xue Wanyu called softly.

Xie Xihe raised her head from the book, revealing a face that was breathtakingly beautiful even without makeup: "Hmm?"

Xue Wanyu was slightly startled, then smiled again: "Reading a book, what book are you reading?"

Xie Xihe looked at her quietly for five seconds. She raised her hand to close the book and asked directly, "What do you want to talk to me about, sister-in-law?"

Xue Wanyu was startled again, and after thinking for a moment, she said directly, "There's something about Dad. After thinking about it, I think I should talk to you, my daughter, about it."

She lowered her voice and said, "Dad is sick. He has liver cancer."

Xie Xihe's fingertips gripping the book suddenly tightened. Although he still showed no emotion, the corners of his mouth were tightly drawn.

She got up and went upstairs.

But after taking only two steps, he was stopped by Xue Wanyu who was chasing him.

Xue Wanyu quickened her pace and said, "Xiao Xi, calm down and listen to me."

"I overheard this by accident when I passed by the study. Before today, Dad was the only one in the family who knew about this, so I think he probably doesn't want us to know."

She took out her phone and flipped through a few photos to show Xie Xihe: "These are the photos I took after sneaking into Dad's study. They are all medical records from the few times Dad went to the doctor himself. It started in July this year, and it has been more than a month."

No one knew about it for such a long time, it must be the result of Mr. Xie deliberately concealing it.

Xie Xihe stopped.

She stared at Xue Wanyu's phone for a long time, then suddenly said, "I heard there's a kind of elixir in this world that can cure all poisons and all diseases. Sister-in-law, do you think this medicine would be effective in treating cancer?"

"You're talking about a panacea, right? It should... work, right?" Xue Wanyu asked uncertainly. Then, a look of uneasiness appeared on her face. She continued, "But even if it does work, given our family's current situation... we can't afford that much money to buy medicine, right?"

"You know, your eldest brother's investment failed, and our family..."

Xie Xihe interrupted her: "I know."

"I'll find a way to deal with this matter. Please don't mention it to anyone else, sister-in-law." After a pause, she added, "Including Dad."

After she finished speaking, she started walking again, but this time she was not heading towards the second floor, but towards the main gate of the Xie family.

The picture freezes at this point.

The ward was quiet.

Until Xie Xihe's voice sounded again: "So, am I wrong, or did sister-in-law forget?"

The words were almost exactly the same as before, but they made Xue Wanyu feel like she was falling into an ice cellar.

Her face turned pale, her fingertips trembled, and after trying several times, she managed to force a smile and said, "Of course I haven't forgotten. It's just that my sister-in-law is stupid and didn't realize that the way you said was to find a way to enter the entertainment industry..."

Xie Xihe said "Oh" and casually circled the words [2020.9.4] in the upper left corner of the video. He laughed, "Sister-in-law, you are really stupid. You are even more stupid than me."

Xue Wanyu was completely speechless.

September 4, 2020, was the day when Xie Xihe signed with Jiasong Media.

Old Madam Xie was extremely embarrassed. Whenever she thought of what she had said before, she felt as if a slap had been slapped hard on her face. It was burning and made her feel ashamed.

For the first time, he softened his tone: "So that's what happened. You are such a fool. You actually hid such a big thing from your family. Your father is fine at the moment. If something goes wrong, will it be blamed on you or your sister-in-law?"

He glared at Xue Wanyu again and said, "And you, Xihe is young and ignorant, so why are you helping her? She asked you not to say anything, and you really didn't say anything?"

Xue Wanyu suddenly realized what was happening and immediately admitted her mistake: "Yes, Mom, it's all my fault for what you said."

Xie Xihe looked at the two people, one giving way to the stairs and the other going down them. Even though he had long been accustomed to Mrs. Xie's neglect, his expression faded: "Dad just woke up and needs more rest. He doesn't need so many people accompanying him. If you are fine, go back."

Old Madam Xie was so embarrassed that she wished she could find a hole to hide in. Upon hearing this, she was not angry at all. Instead, she said, "Xihe is right. Let's all go back and don't disturb your father from recuperating."

Xue Wanyu was eager to leave and didn't even bother to show her filial piety in front of the old man. She hurriedly said hello and walked out.

Xie Tingyuan's expression changed, and he immediately followed.

Everyone had left, and the ward, which had been a little noisy, finally became quiet.

Xie Xihe closed the door casually and was about to speak when he turned around and met the cold gaze of his old man.

Her heart skipped a beat and she subconsciously called out, "Dad..."

Xie Bowen snorted: "Don't call me dad, I should call you dad."

Xie Xihe: “…”

Xie Bowen continued to sneer, "Look, when I was sick, you had to show up in public to earn money for my medicine. When I fainted, you had to leave your work and rush to visit me. When I was in the hospital, you had to peel apples for me. Great, Xie Xihe, you've grown up and become more and more capable."

Xie Xihe: "...I was wrong."

After a pause, he admitted his mistake again with great sincerity: "I really know I was wrong."

Mr. Xie snorted again and finally stopped his venomous words.

His gaze remained fixed on Xie Xihe. After studying him for a long moment, he suddenly narrowed his eyes and said, "It seems the fall has unblocked all the meridians. So, have you finally figured it out? Are you going to stop hiding your abilities?"

Hiding...clumsy...

Xie Xihe's heart trembled, and he suddenly looked up.
