Chapter 39
Everything happens in an instant.
A ball of black mist emerged from the angle formed by the healing potion and the ground, rolling towards Rocas from another timeline!
Miel was sitting next to Rocas. Feeling the danger that made his soul tremble, he instinctively turned his head and saw this -
The hazy black fog formed the outline of a dog-like monster, but its head had neither a canine nose nor ears. Instead, under the cracked muscle texture and within the skeletal framework, there were densely packed red light spots, like eyes, but more like glowing tumors.
It pounced on Rocas and Miel at an extremely fast speed. Its head cracked like a squeezed fruit, forming a jagged crack. A slender red mouthpart ejected, and the tip bloomed like a flower, but each petal was as sharp as a blade!
Miel's mind went blank as he watched Lola rush to him at a speed that could not be captured by the naked eye and use her body to block the monster's attack!
His shoulder was pierced by the terrifying mouthparts, and his body was torn apart by the sharp claws!
"Luo..."
"Miel!" Rocas shouted and stuffed something into Miel's palm.
Miel instinctively clenched it, feeling like a ring.
The next second, Miel's body was picked up by Leon and a portal opened beside him.
"...Lola!" Miel's hand that was not holding anything reached out to Lola, but he could only watch as he turned into black sticky liquid and spilled all over the floor.
The Hound of Tindalos tore Lola's body apart and fell to the ground. Its two slender front paws supported its erratic body, and its lower body was hidden in the black mist and could not be seen clearly.
At the moment when it regrouped and pounced on Rocas, Miel's vision flashed and the surrounding environment suddenly changed - he was carried by Leon through the portal and returned to the town of Hope.
People were coming and going around, and the atmosphere was peaceful and harmonious. Even though there was some commotion caused by the sudden appearance of the two people, it was quickly calmed down.
There are no monsters beyond cognition that shock the soul, and no threats to life that cause fear.
Miel opened his eyes absentmindedly, and it took him a while to regain consciousness: "Locas..."
After calming down, he realized that he should be more worried about Rocas than Lola.
Cthulhu's divine body wasn't easily damaged, but Rocas, from another timeline, was just an ordinary half-elf, aside from being able to travel through time and space. Furthermore, he didn't have a mana pool...
"I said, if we meet the Hound of Tindalos, I will take you away immediately and won't care about his life or death." Leon said as he walked forward holding Miel.
Leon did say something like that... No, that's not right, that was Lola who said that!
Miel remembered that these were what Lola said to him before he entered Acunaira's mansion.
This memory was also shared? When?
"His soul was too weak to travel through time again. He couldn't survive." Lyon calmly announced Rocas's death. "Rather than this, you should look at what he gave you."
Miel looked down at his hand, in his palm was the last thing that Rocas gave him.
When he opened his palm, he saw a ring made of pure gold and inlaid with a bright yellow crystal.
Space ring.
Apparently, the forbidden book is in this ring.
All of Rocas's memories are also in this ring.
"Locas... is he dead?"
Even though he knew in his heart that he couldn't avoid the next attack of the Hound of Tindalos, Miel couldn't help but confirm with Leon.
"What do you think?" Leon asked contemptuously. He took a deep breath and spoke again in a calm tone. "He said he would retrieve all his memories and give them to you before he died. Since you have mastered the magic of 'Memory Reading', you should be well aware of the consequences of doing so."
Miel: "So, Rocas committed suicide, not was he killed by the Hounds of Tindalos, correct?"
Leon: "Even though I don't see any difference between the two, if it makes you feel better, then yes."
Miel: "Where's Lola?"
"Lola again! Lola Lola Lola!" Leon finally couldn't help but explode, "Will you die if you don't mention this name?"
"He will die." Miel lowered his eyes.
Although he thought Lola would not die, if she died... then he would also want to die.
In fact, after learning the truth behind Bross, he wanted to die.
He thought he was just missing a goal, and as long as he found a new goal to strive for, he would have a reason to live.
But now, Lucas has traveled across time and space and delivered this goal to him, but he still wants to die.
Because Lola's life or death is uncertain...
Miel finally realized that he didn't need any goal at all, he just needed Lola.
Lola, his spiritual pillar, the only reason for him to live. Without Lola, any goal would be meaningless.
"Are you serious?" Leon's tone returned to calm.
But it was only a superficial calm.
Miel could hear the irritation hidden in his hushed voice.
Miel relaxed in his arms, having lost all fear of losing Lola, and responded in a genuine, calm tone, "Seriously."
Leon: “…”
Leon took a deep breath.
This was the second time he took a deep breath since leaving that strange room, both times to suppress his anger, and both times for Miel.
But, it's almost reached its limit.
"A mere dog can't hurt my tentacles," he said. "You should know that whether it's me holding you right now or me blocking the dog for you, they are both just my incarnations. If an incarnation is damaged, it will return to my original body for repair—my original body is in R'lyeh. In other words..."
"Lola is in that abyss?" Miel's dead eyes regained their luster. "Then, Mr. Leon, can you take me to find him?"
"ha!"
Lyon stopped walking.
Only he himself knew how much anger and self-mockery were contained in his laughter.
But his consciousness did not come from the tentacle. He was not as slow as the tentacle, nor did he have the good temper of the tentacle to accept everything.
Therefore, he had to let his agent feel his anger!
Leon came to a wall, put Miel down, and then slapped his palm on Miel's ear, trapping him between himself and the wall.
Miel raised her eyes to look at him. There was no fear or uneasiness in her beautiful sapphire eyes, only exploration and observation.
Even a little curious.
Miel was becoming more and more like his annoying tentacle.
Leon said coldly: “Answer me, who am I?”
Miel: "Mr. Leon?"
Leon: "You are wrong, it is Cthulhu."
Miel: “…”
Leon: "Answer me, who are you going to find under the abyss?"
Miel: "...Lola?"
Leon: "You're wrong again, it's Cthulhu."
Miel: “…”
"The person you're looking for is right in front of you. What can I do to make you understand?" Leon continued to hold Miel's ear with one hand, and roughly pinched his chin with the other hand, forcing him to look at him. "You can call me Leon, you can call me Lola, whatever you like, I don't care anymore, but you should never, ever ask me where Lola is in front of me!"
"Thinking about it now, making up the name Lola just to keep a low profile was the worst decision I ever made. Changing it to Leon because I thought Lola was too ridiculous was even worse! If I had only acknowledged the name Cthulhu from beginning to end, would you not be as confused as you are now?"
Miel lowered his eyes.
Will it? Miel doesn't know.
For him to understand that two people who are very different in every way are actually one person is as difficult as for a bug to understand that all ten fingers of a human belong to the human race.
But he knew what Leon wanted to hear.
He knew how to pretend he understood.
Because Leon has made it very clear - don't use the name "Lola" in front of him and call "others".
"I'm just worried about you—about your tentacles." Miel spoke, his tone still calm, but with a hint of false concern. "I'm worried that his disappearance will cause you to lose part of your divine body and some of your thinking ability. I just want to know if you're hurt."
Sure enough, as soon as these words came out, Leon's excited emotions stabilized visibly.
"Don't worry." He finally gave Miel the response he wanted. "My tentacle simply returned to R'lyeh, back to that dream, after suffering a huge shock. It will wake up soon, and after waking up, if it wants to come here, it will find itself here. Just like humans can sense the existence of two hands at the same time, my avatars can also sense each other's location - that's how I found you when you were almost killed by Bross again."
"Oh, I understand." Miel breathed a sigh of relief.
He felt relieved once he was sure that Lola was okay.
"I'm a little tired and want to go to the hotel to rest. Can you please let me go?" he asked tentatively.
Leon said nothing. As soon as his front foot loosened the restraint on him, his back foot used both hands to support his back and knees and picked him up horizontally.
Miel didn't resist, but felt a little uncomfortable: "I can walk by myself."
Leon: "I don't care if you can or not. I hug you whenever I want."
Miel: "...Why do you want to hug me?"
"Because you are my agent." Leon answered, paused, and added, "You are also my other half, even if it is only in name."
Miel: “…”
"If you still feel resistant to what I said, it means you still don't understand the concept of 'I am Cthulhu'." Leon looked at the person in his arms as he walked, meeting his blue eyes. "How about we play a game?"
Miel: "What game?"
Leon: "When we get to the hotel, I will split into two and let one of them play Lola. If you can give me ten reasons why she is not Lola, then I will acknowledge Lola's uniqueness and allow you to make love with my tentacles, and I will applaud and cheer for your beautiful love. How about it?"
Miel:?
ah?
Facing the Hound of Tindalos hadn't broken Miel's sanity, but now, his sanity was showing signs of breaking...
Leon…split…plays…Lola…
He knew every word, but he couldn't understand them when they were put together, couldn't think about them, and couldn't analyze and integrate them into a clear picture in his brain.
Then, when he came to his senses, he was sitting on the bed in the hotel room.
In front of him, Leon melted like liquid and split into two vertically, each forming a complete human form.
One of them became exactly like Leon, and the other one was not Leon, but... not Lola either.
The pink, slightly curly hair was shorter than Leon's, just past the shoulders, and the green eyes reminded Miel of the emerald ring on Inai's hand.
Perhaps because there were fewer divided parts, he was a whole head shorter than Leon and only an inch taller than Miel.
His face was even softer than Leon's, his lips curled up in a playful arc, and his voice was filled with an indescribable... hoarseness of unsatisfied desire: "Well... I regret it. Why can I get you by playing Lola? My charm is not enough to be compared with a tentacle."
"Actually, I don't necessarily need you to understand that all my avatars are one person. Even if you treat all my avatars as different people, each one can earn your trust and love with his or her own abilities. At least, I have this confidence."
As he spoke, he walked over to Miel, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, and lowered his head to look at him. In his green eyes, there was no predator's determination to catch its prey, but only tenderness.
"None of this matters. Anyway, I regret it. I don't want to play the game anymore. Lola is yours, and I am yours too."
He bent down and gently embraced the dazed Miel in his arms, caressing the back of his head. "Miel, my Miel... I'm sorry, I won't embarrass you again. I make a promise now - I'll beat up anyone who makes you unhappy, even if it's my incarnation."
Leon:?
Miel:?
ah?
