Life within the system

Life within the system

Now, thinking back to why I came here, it seems like it was because I was overwhelmed with grief.

Having just experienced the despair of a breakup, she unexpectedly transmigrated to a virtual world called the "Emotional Repair System." A system notification sounded in her ear: "Host Lu Yin, your emotional trauma has triggered the transmigration mechanism. You must complete the mission to return to reality." She froze, her fingertip tracing Lan Yi's data on the screen—emotional value 3%, the key event pointing to a car accident two years ago. Two years ago, Lan Yi was her sunshine, cooking porridge for her in the morning and staying up late with her; two years later, he had become cold and distant, barely bothering to reply to her messages. On the day of the breakup, his words as he turned away, "We can't go back," pierced her heart like a knife. Now, she had reunited with him in the system, and her mission was to make him fall in love with her again.

System notification: "Lan Yi is in a low mood, triggering 'Memory Rewind'." Lu Yin reset the scene to the first encounter café. She ordered a caramel macchiato and gently touched the old scar on the inside of Lan Yi's wrist—a mark left from the car accident. "You... still remember this." Lan Yi's pupils contracted slightly, his Adam's apple bobbing. The system notification sounded: "Emotional value +15%." A long-lost tenderness flashed in his eyes, like a crack appearing on a frozen lake. Lu Yin's heart raced, and she asked softly, "Why did you become like this two years ago?" Lan Yi was silent for a moment, then lowered his head to avoid her gaze: "Some things, saying too much will only make you sadder." Lu Yin suddenly grasped his hand: "Lan Yi, I'm back. This time, I won't leave you alone again." Lan Yi's body trembled slightly, the warmth of his fingertips passing through his palm like a ray of warm sunshine in winter. But her life was still filled with system tasks—she had to complete emotional value increase tasks every day, and the slightest carelessness would trigger system punishment.

Her ex-girlfriend suddenly reappeared, planting a virus on Lan Yi's computer and altering her memories. When Lan Yi woke up, his eyes were icy cold: "Lu Yin, the car accident two years ago was your fault, it was you who hurt Xiao Xue." Lu Yin's heart sank to the bottom. She used the system's "data repair" function to restore the dashcam footage—her ex-girlfriend had tried to bribe the driver. She projected the evidence onto the bedroom wall, simultaneously playing the surveillance footage of Lan Yi holding her hand tightly by the hospital bed while he was unconscious. "Did you see that?" Lu Yin's voice trembled, "I didn't hurt anyone." Lan Yi's defenses completely collapsed. He smashed the crystal ornament his ex-girlfriend had given him, the shards cutting his palm, blood dripping onto the back of Lu Yin's hand: "Does it hurt? This way you'll remember me." The system notification: "Emotional value rebounded after a sharp drop (-40%→+50%)." But her life was still tormented by the system's punishment—every fluctuation in emotional value would trigger a splitting headache.

The system warned: "Repairing the relationship will result in Lan Xue's death." Lu Yin used the "space-time rift" to return to 10 minutes before the car accident, using himself as bait to lure the out-of-control vehicle away.

"This is a tricky situation, but it's a scenario given to you by the system, so you might have to complete it. However, this world is quite complex, so it's best to avoid too many conflicts."

She picked up her phone, but her life was still affected by the traces left by the system—she would occasionally dream of data streams and Lan Yi's gentleness in the virtual world.
