Chapter 51

As soon as the door of the room where Liang Yubai was located opened, the people who seemed to be wandering around aimlessly outside turned their heads and all looked over here. More than a dozen pairs of eyes were staring at the yard, making people feel very uncomfortable in an instant.

"I'm leaving first." Bai Fang walked out of the house first and turned back to wave to Yu Yao in the house.

"Yeah!" Yu Yao nodded.

"You have to be careful." Bai Fang was still quite worried, frowning, but helpless.

"Yeah!" Yu Yao waved her hand and watched Bai Fang leave the yard. Sure enough, when those people saw that it was not Liang Yubai who came out, they did not focus their attention on Bai Fang, but continued to stare at the yard.

It was not until Yu Yao closed the door that those people's eyes slowly shifted elsewhere.

There is no doubt that Liang Yubai is trapped here and under surveillance.

"It's really not easy to take you out." Yu Yao leaned on the bed, carefully looking at the people walking back and forth on the path outside. They strolled around casually, but basically did not go too far away from the yard, and were wary of every move in the yard.

"What on earth was that woman who trapped you here thinking?" Yu Yao couldn't help but sigh and mutter.

"I'm not sure, but I feel like she doesn't want me to stay here." Liang Yubai sat idly on a chair, unfolding his beloved fan and looking at it. "She doesn't seem to want me to disturb her current life, but I can't just leave her in her current state."

Liang Yubai tilted his head. "But the strange thing is, I couldn't find her whereabouts before. If she didn't want me to find her, she could have kept hiding. But she chose to come out on her own initiative. What's her plan?"

Yu Yao turned back from the window and sat down on the chair. "Could it be that you've threatened her? For example, by getting close to where she lives? Or knowing someone she also knows? Is she afraid that you might expose her secret one day and ruin her life?"

"I feel like she probably values her current life very much."

Liang Yubai nodded thoughtfully, "Perhaps so, but I've only been involved in Ye Laihe's affairs recently, and the only people I know are you and Bai Fang... What exactly is it about her that makes her feel threatened?"

Yu Yao also shook her head blankly.

There was nothing to do in the house, and Liang Yubai was in a bad mood, so he closed his eyes and rested.

Yu Yao was also bored, so she walked around the house and found that the place was really shabby and covered in dust.

"What will happen to those ghosts outside at night?" Yu Yao remembered Liang Yubai's mention that they would change at night, so she asked in advance to prepare herself mentally.

"They won't attack during the day, but they will at night. I guess they'll attack indiscriminately, so you'd better not go out at night, no matter what you hear or see." Liang Yubai squinted his eyes and sat drowsily in the chair. "Ghosts nowadays are ridiculously cunning, and they have so many tricks to deceive people."

"Last night, they were outside imitating babies crying and cats meowing, using all kinds of noises to try to trick me out. I didn't get a good night's sleep." Liang Yubai yawned as he spoke. "I'll take a nap... If they come, remember to call me."

Yu Yao nodded. At this time, she was the only one who perked up.

The two stayed in the room for the whole afternoon. The room was full of dust, and there was no water or food. It was quite uncomfortable to stay there. Liang Yubai was probably not feeling well, so he put two chairs together, curled up on them and fell into a deep sleep. Only Yu Yao was worried about Bai Fang's condition, while paying attention to the situation outside, and was restless.

Until the sky gradually darkened, there was still no movement outside and no one appeared.

The ghosts that were originally walking on the streets returned to the houses one after another after dark, just like ordinary people. However, no lights were on in any of the houses. It was so quiet that it seemed as if there were only the two of them in the whole place.

"Liang Yubai, it's dark." Yu Yao could no longer see the outside through the window. It was only pitch black. She had no choice but to turn around and try to call Liang Yubai, but found that she was running a fever and sleeping in a daze, not quite conscious.

"No, open the door. It'll be fine if you don't open the door." He just muttered this to Yu Yao and fell asleep in a trance.

Yu Yao nodded vigorously and glanced at the wooden door that looked a bit shabby. She was afraid that it would be knocked open, but she moved the table over to block it out of concern. She was determined not to open the door no matter what sound she heard tonight.

She used a match to light the small remaining candle on the table. The slow flame illuminated the small room and cast their shadows on the wall. Outside the room, it was silent and pitch black, as if the room they were in had entered a space without light. Nothing could be seen outside the window except darkness.

Liang Yubai was sleeping very soundly, barely moving. Yu Yao sat beside him, afraid that something unexpected might happen. She didn't dare to fall asleep, but sat against the wall, paying attention to every move outside.

The eerie silence permeated every corner of the space; even the sound of breathing became clear. This abnormal silence, with a hint of inexplicable fear, seeped into every pore of the skin and rose to people's hearts.

This is clearly an old village, but no sound can be heard.

Yu Yao was a little bit scared, even more panicked than when she first saw Makoto in Yelai River. She felt more unsure about herself in an unfamiliar and dangerous environment.

She thought about it, turned on her phone, and started doing something to distract herself. She couldn't connect to the Internet and had no signal, so she had to play some small games on her phone.

After the tense mood relaxed a little, a small voice suddenly broke the silence outside the house and rang out.

It was a long, soft meow. It would have been a pleasant meow at any other time, but when it sounded in the stillness of the night, it sent chills down one's spine.

Yu Yao shivered against the wall, stretched her neck to look out the window, but it was still pitch black and she could not see anything.

It was just as Liang Yubai said, there were strange noises outside at night.

But it’s so late at night, no one would dare to go out, no matter if there’s a cat meowing or a child crying...

She retracted her head, pretending not to hear anything, and just sat there in silence.

The soft and long cat meow outside slowly approached the house and seemed to go directly into the yard, which frightened Yu Yao a little.

They are not allowed to enter the yard during the day, but can they come in directly at night?

She hurried to Liang Yubai and pushed her, not daring to speak too loudly. She called out softly and pushed her, but Liang Yubai did not respond at all.

Yu Yao nervously checked her breathing and found that her breathing was very stable. She still had a slight fever on her forehead and was sleeping very soundly. She showed no sign of waking up when she pushed her. At this time, Yu Yao was the only one left and was also very panicked.

Suddenly, there was a clanging sound on the glass on the other side of the window, as if something was sticking to the glass. Yu Yao turned her head towards the wall, not daring to look over.

Just now, she happened to catch a glimpse of it out of the corner of her eye, vaguely seeing what seemed to be a pale face pressed tightly against the glass, with a pair of eyes looking into the room. Yu Yao turned her head quickly, and did not meet its gaze, nor did she see its appearance clearly, but she was not that scared.

The cat's meowing outside the door continued. It had already reached the outside of the door, and was almost separated from her by a thin door panel. The sound passed through the door panel into the house. Each cry was like a soul-calling cry, making people's hair stand on end.

Yu Yao took out her cell phone with trembling hands, turned on the player, turned up the volume to the maximum, and played a random song.

In an instant, the loud music drowned out the cat's meowing outside the door. The noise outside suddenly stopped and gradually quieted down.

"Hmm..." Liang Yubai frowned, tucked his head into his arms, and made a small, uncomfortable sound. "...Don't be afraid. No matter what the sound is, just pretend you didn't hear it. They can't get in."

Yu Yao responded, turned off the music, and stared at Liang Yubai, who looked uncomfortable, without turning on the music to disturb her.

Although she was told not to be afraid and knew that those outside could not get in, she still could not sleep peacefully in such a place.

Yu Yao put on the hat of her clothes and followed Liang Yubai's example by putting two chairs together and lying on them to prepare to fall asleep. But perhaps because the chair was facing the door, she always felt a little uncomfortable.

If I sleep face up, I always feel like I'll see something scary when I open my eyes.

If you sleep with your back to the bed, dangerous things will be behind you without any protection, and it will also make you uncomfortable. If you lie flat, there will not be enough space.

After tossing and turning in the chair for several times, she sat up reluctantly, leaned back in the chair and began to daydream, deciding not to sleep.

After the cat's meowing outside the door stopped, it was quiet for a while. Yu Yao had just sat up from the chair when she heard a child crying outside. In the dark night, the crying was particularly miserable, right at the door, very close to her.

Yu Yao felt a little panicked and irritated after hearing this. She could understand Liang Yubai's annoyance of not being able to sleep until dawn last night.

But she was probably not feeling well tonight, so she didn't react at all and slept very soundly, leaving Yu Yao alone to suffer.

There are cats meowing and children crying outside. Where do all these noises come from?

She glanced at the window and the pale face that had been pressed against the glass was gone. There was no other sound outside except the crying of a child. It was pitch black and she had no idea what was going on.

Yu Yao got up from the chair and leaned down at the door, intending to take a look at the situation outside through the crack.

It was pitch black, there was no way there was really a child crying.

She just lay down here and shone the light from her cell phone out from under the crack of the door.

The moment light shone through the crack under the door, it revealed a pair of pale feet standing motionless outside the door.

Yu Yao was stunned, stood up instantly, and quickly jumped back to the chair with the phone in her arms. She didn't dare to look at it any longer, and huddled in the chair for a long time.

Could it be that all the ghosts in the village are standing in the yard outside the door?
