Chapter 52

Just as she was daydreaming, there was a sudden bang at the door, as if something hit the fragile door panel, which startled Yu Yao and made her shiver.

"Sister..." The voice of the child from the daytime rang out from outside the door, "Sister, open the door quickly. I've brought you something delicious."

Yu Yao lay back on the chair and decided to ignore whatever she heard.

"Knock, knock, knock—" The knocks on the door grew louder, and the child's voice continued to ring, "Sister, open the door quickly! Open the door for me quickly, I brought a lot of delicious food."

The knocking sounds were like raindrops falling on the door panel in a disorderly manner. It sounded like there might be more than one person knocking on the door. The ghost outside saw that there was no response from inside, so it kept knocking everywhere, from the door panel to the window, trying to get into the house. The sound of "dong dong dong" spread throughout the house, and dense footsteps sounded in the yard, as if countless people were walking in the dark night.

"Sister! Open the door quickly!" The child's voice kept shouting at the door, and the sweet voice gradually changed to a low and hoarse tone.

Yu Yao huddled in the chair, covered her ears and closed her eyes. She turned the music on her phone down to the lowest volume and placed it next to her ear to block out the noise outside.

Her ears were filled with the sound of music, but the current environment still made her feel uncontrollable fear. She was so tense that she couldn't relax at all.

The knocking sounds outside the door lasted for an unknown amount of time. There were knocks on the door and windows, scraping sounds from under the door, and all kinds of shouting. They echoed in the yard for a long time through the wall and the door panels. Perhaps realizing that they really couldn't get in, Yu Yao's tense mood slowly relaxed.

The mental fatigue made her dazed for a while, and she took a short nap without realizing it.

When I woke up, I suddenly found that the noises outside had quieted down. It was gray outside the window and it seemed that dawn was about to break.

Are they all gone?

Yu Yao rubbed her eyes and was about to pick up her phone to check the time, but she found that she had been playing music before going to bed, and the battery was low and it was turned off.

She sighed and turned to look at Liang Yubai. He was still the same, sleeping soundly and without any reaction.

"They should all have left, right?" Yu Yao stood up and walked tentatively to the window, looking out through the dim light. The yard was silent, without a single person in sight. The same was true on the paths in the village. No sound or ghost was seen at all. It was so quiet that there was not even a trace of anything.

Yu Yao breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed.

Just as he was about to turn around to wake up Liang Yubai, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a figure appearing on the village path, looking around.

The distance was quite far, and she could not see clearly. She leaned against the window, squinting her eyes and looked carefully. When the man came closer, she suddenly realized that it was Bai Fang.

"Is Doctor Bai back?" Yu Yao was very happy. She lay on the glass and stared at Bai Fang, waving hard through the glass, trying to attract her attention.

Bai Fang looked around, examining the houses as if searching for one. Suddenly, he caught sight of Yu Yao lying on the window, and turned to go into the yard.

"Doctor Bai! You're back? How was it? Did you encounter any danger on the road?" Yu Yao leaned against the window and excitedly asked Bai Fang outside.

"No, I'm fine." Bai Fang responded with a smile outside the door, then glanced at the door, "Please open the door and let me in. There was nothing outside when I came here, and I don't know what will appear outside."

"Okay, okay." Yu Yao nodded, turned and walked to the door, grabbed the door lock, and was about to open it when she suddenly remembered Liang Yubai's words.

No matter what I hear, I can't open the door, but... it's daylight now, and it's useless to go outside, so should I open it?

Yu Yao was puzzled. She turned and leaned towards the window, staring at Bai Fang outside. "Doctor Bai, why did you come here alone? Didn't you contact the person on the phone?"

"I... didn't go out. I got lost in the woods after leaving yesterday. I wandered around for a long time and found myself back." Bai Fang replied, looking around. "Is it inconvenient to open the door? But it's already daybreak, so there's nothing to worry about."

Yu Yao leaned against the window and thought for two seconds. It seemed that it was in vain, and the sound was also in vain. It seemed that there was nothing wrong with speaking.

It's quite dangerous to leave Dr. Bai outside. Should we let her in first?

"Oh, right." Yu Yao stared at Bai Fang outside in confusion. "Doctor Bai, it's better for you to leave first. It's dangerous here. Besides, didn't you say yesterday that there were important patients waiting for you to return?"

Bai Fang, who was outside the door, was stunned. "...I can't get out either. I've been wandering in the woods for a long time. As for the patient...it's not a serious illness. There are other doctors."

"Oh, I see." Yu Yao smiled and nodded, retracting her head from the window.

"It's not the real Dr. Bai!" She whispered in shock, squatting under the window. "He looks and sounds just like the real one."

"Fortunately, I usually call her Doctor Bai, but in reality, Doctor Bai is not a doctor. I have misled these ghosts who don't know her."

"But it's almost dawn, how can these ghosts still wander around outside disguised as other people?" Yu Yao turned around and crawled to the door in confusion, then climbed down and took a look outside through the crack in the door.

Looking out the window, the village was about to get lightened up, but looking through the crack of the door, it was still pitch black. The only person standing outside also had a pair of pale feet, which was definitely not a waste of time.

"It's just like Liang Yubai said, they're so smart now. Even ghosts are so smart, do they still want people to live?" Yu Yao sighed and muttered. Just as she was thinking about what to do, there was a knock on the door, followed by Bai Fang's voice, "Yu Yao, what are you doing in there? Open the door for me."

The voice was very similar to Bai Fang's, but it wasn't Bai Fang's. This made Yu Yao very annoyed. She leaned out of the window and peeked out, angrily saying, "Get out of here! Don't talk to me in Doctor Bai's voice! I won't listen!"

"What did you say? I am Doctor Bai." The "Bai Fang" outside the door was still trying hard to persevere.

"Bah! If you speak in Dr. Bai's voice again, I will hit someone... No, I will hit a ghost!" Yu Yao glared at the ghost outside the door, turned around and returned to her chair, deciding that no matter what voice she heard, she would not believe it.

The yard outside was quiet for a long time. No more voice of the fake visitor was heard, nor was there any sound of footsteps leaving. It seemed as if the so-called visitor had just disappeared in the yard.

Yu Yao sighed deeply. Her cell phone was out of battery, and there was a ghost outside. She couldn't go out and couldn't sleep. It was quite tiring to stay in this small space.

She was a little worried about Liang Yubai who had not woken up yet. She went to check on her condition and found that her condition had become worse after a night. She had a severe fever, was dehydrated, and had not eaten for a while. It would be very dangerous if she continued to stay there.

After daybreak, if no one comes, just find a way out by yourself?

But she really had no way to deal with ghosts. Her only advantage was that she could hear the sounds of objects, but since entering the village, she had not heard any object speak.

The houses here are extremely old and can definitely talk, but for some reason they have become quiet.

Yu Yao stood up, turned around, knocked on the table and chairs, and began to try to strike up a conversation. "You've been here all night, can you talk to me?"

However, the only response from the room was silence.

"I know you can talk, and I won't ask you anything. Just respond to me."

The room was still silent.

Yu Yao was silent for a moment, then stood up. "If you don't speak up, I'll burn you all to ashes. Old wood like you should be very flammable."

The room was silent for two seconds before a voice came from the table and chairs, "...Don't make things difficult for us."

"Anyway, those outside can't get in, and they can't hear your voices, so what are you afraid of?" Yu Yao squatted down in front of the table. "Is there anyone else here who can hear your voices like me?"

"Not really, it's just... I'm a little scared. What if she finds out what we said to you..." The voice at the table was timid.

"Who is she? Are you so scared of her? She can't even hear your voices, yet you're so scared of her?"

After Yu Yao asked this, the table immediately became quiet again.

"Alright, alright, I won't ask about that mysterious woman anymore. I'm just asking, is there any secret passage out of this village? A place that won't be discovered by those outside?"

The table was silent for a moment, and then he spoke softly, "They have lived in this village the longest. There is nothing they don't know. This house is the safest. You'd better not think about wandering around. If you want to go out, you have to wait until dawn."

"Is there really no way to take Liang Yubai out? We don't know how long we have to wait for Doctor Bai to come back. Can Liang Yubai do it..." Yu Yao turned her head worriedly and looked at Liang Yubai.

"A long time ago, many passing exorcists tried to suppress the ghosts in this village, but to no avail. She was able to surround this house as a safe base, setting up a formation that prevented ghosts from entering. I thought she was a very powerful exorcist, but seeing how weak she is now, was she possessed by a powerful ghost before?"

Yu Yao sighed softly, "Yes, she is a very powerful female ghost."

"She is still very young. I hope she doesn't suffer any sequelae. Such a powerful ghost generally cannot easily possess others. Only that woman can find a body in such a special state..." The voice at the table suddenly fell silent, and it was quiet in an instant.

"What did you just say?" Yu Yao was about to ask carefully with doubt in her heart, but there was a sudden knock on the door, interrupting Yu Yao's words.

She looked back and saw the faint light coming through the crack in the door. It seemed that it was really dawn this time, but because of the previous white visit, she was still very vigilant.

"Who is it?" she asked as she quietly moved towards the window.

A calm and steady voice came from outside the door, "It's me, Shu Wen."
