Chapter 694: Escape from Death

I was panic-stricken and filled with despair.

"Yan Meng! Answer me!"

"I am here."

It’s Yan Meng’s voice!

But, not inside the container, but behind me.

I turned around stiffly and saw him standing at the door, holding food in his hand and smiling at me.

My tense nerves relaxed, my eyes felt inexplicably sore, and tears welled up uncontrollably.

Yan Meng looked at me lovingly and teased me with a smile, "Keep your voice down! If you keep yelling, we'll kick you off the boat! I don't want to accompany you to feed the fish in the sea after surviving a near-death experience."

I burst into laughter. "I thought... I thought you were still in there."

"What nonsense are you talking about?" He walked towards me and wiped my tears with one hand. "I'm lucky! How could I be killed so easily?"

I slapped his hand away and retorted, "Yes, you're lucky! I'm the one meddling in your business, okay?"

Yan Meng smiled without saying anything, letting me vent, and then took me into the room.

He took a lot of food from the cabin, and I was really hungry. As I ate, I asked, "What on earth is going on? How did we escape?"

I also don’t think that Yan Lirong will suddenly become soft-hearted and kind-hearted.

Yan Meng poured me a glass of water and explained, "After he knocked you out, he simply put you in the container. He wanted you to die with me so that no one would know how he killed me."

I was horrified when I heard that. I almost died in the container.

Yan Lirong is really ruthless. He had already discovered me when I was eavesdropping.

In order to prevent his actions from being exposed, he pretended to leave, lured me into a trap, and then silenced me completely.

If Yan Meng and I died in the container together, even if someone from the Ming family came to question us, we would not be able to produce any evidence that it was Yan Lirong who did it.

"So what happened next?" I pressed. "How did we get released?"

"As soon as I felt we were being loaded onto the ship, I banged against the container wall desperately, making a noise to alert the crew. The crew member, who was not Yan Lirong's man, noticed something was wrong, opened the container, and rescued us."

His eyes suddenly darkened, staring at me intently, "Xiao Shan, even if I'm about to die, I don't want you to die with me. I want you to live."

His sudden affection made me panic. I awkwardly avoided his gaze and changed the subject: "What about that crew member? Have you thanked them?"

Yan Meng didn't want to embarrass me and suppressed his emotions.

He smiled and replied, "Of course. I gave him a generous reward, and the room we are staying in is also his. He promised to take us to our destination, and then we will take a flight back to the capital from there."

I nodded in understanding, but I still felt something was wrong.

Yan Lirong is a thorough person. He even managed to get away with it after domestic violence against Huo Hui and alerting the police. How could he possibly give Yan Meng a chance to escape?

He clearly had many ways to prevent Yan Meng from being rescued, but he seemed to be unprepared.

Puzzled, I asked, "Yan Lirong has always been cautious. Why would he give you a chance to ask for help this time?"

Yan Meng raised his eyebrows when he heard that, chuckled subconsciously, and looked away from my face.

He said lightly, "That's probably because you're here. God couldn't bear to see such a beautiful girl like you die so young. You brought me luck and helped us escape this disaster."
