Chapter 65
Huangli Ju dressed up carefully and knocked on the door early in the morning to ask them to appreciate it.
Wang Jiazhi and Xiaoshuang both said it looked good, and she did look pretty. After hearing their praise, Huang Liju went out confidently and happily.
It was a rare weekend, and the weather was especially nice today. Wang Jiazhi and Xiaoshuang felt no urge to go out, so they slept soundly all day. It was only at noon that Wang Jiazhi went to the cafeteria to get her lunch. After lunch, they fell into another drowsy sleep.
It started raining at night, and I didn't want to get up even more.
In the dimness, they heard crying from the next door dormitory. When they finally woke up and heard the noise, Xiao Shuang said through the mosquito net: "What's going on? What's going on again?"
The gossipy mentality led them to go next door. The door was not locked. When they went in, they saw Huang Liju had not changed her clothes. She was still wearing the same outfit as in the morning. She was lying on the bed sobbing. When they got closer, they saw that her makeup was smudged due to her tears.
When asked why, Huang Liju said she was so happy that she thought she had dressed up nicely to impress her boyfriend. Unexpectedly, her boyfriend kept a sullen face and refused to talk to her. She didn't know what she had done to offend him.
When the outing was over, her boyfriend was furious, saying she was selfish and only cared about herself. She was dressed in jewels, but the suit she gave him was not as good as Kuang Yumin's.
Huang Liju cried like a tearful person, saying, "In order to buy him clothes, I lived frugally and even asked for a lot of money from my family. This time, I borrowed money from a friend to buy the clothes. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't dress like this. How could he say that?"
Wang Jiazhi and Xiaoshuang knew that her boyfriend was dissatisfied that the money was not spent on himself.
The two of them didn't know what to say, so they just comforted each other with a few words and went back.
When Xiao Shuang returned, she said, "A guy like this actually has girls who like him."
Huang Liju later spent a lot of money to buy a lot of things for her boyfriend, and the matter was over.
Huang Liju's boyfriend was treating her worse and worse, probably because he was sure he had her. In the past, at least he had his mouth open and used sweet words to coax her, but now he wouldn't even respond when he asked her for money.
Anyway, no matter what the reason is, as long as Huangli Ju is willing to pay, everything will be back to normal.
Wang Jiazhi heard that there would be fireworks on the 9th of next month, and that they would be visible from the playground. She suggested that an outdoor play with fireworks as the perfect backdrop would be fantastic.
Others also thought it was great and must be dreamy and romantic.
Everyone discussed what play to perform, even down to the details of setting up the stage and inquiring about the time for the fireworks to be set off, so that the climax of the stage would coincide with the time for the fireworks to be set off.
Several scripts were chosen, but none seemed particularly suitable. Finally, Wang Jiazhi worked up a storm to write a few scenes. The hero and heroine once watched fireworks together, but later had to separate and lost contact, lost forever. Years later, the heroine passes by the place where they once met, and fireworks happen to be set off in the night sky. Watching the fireworks, the heroine bursts into tears as she recalls the past. Much later, she turns around and sees the hero beside her in the dimming lights, offering her a flower. And so, as fate would have it, the two meet again.
Wang Jiazhi said, "Why do I feel it's so cliché?"
Zhou Minlin said: "No, no, it's so-called cliché because it's quoted so often, and the reason why it's quoted so often is because it's a classic."
This obviously did not impress Wang Jiazhi. She has always had high demands on her scripts and did not want to ruin her reputation.
Thinking back to the original intention, everyone was simply excited about the outdoor play and wanted to perform it during the fireworks display, experiencing the romance and novelty of it. No one had really thought about the specific performance, but the script was paramount. Wang Jiazhi thought, time was running out. It was impossible to find inspiration to write a new script in such a short time, so she could only work hard to polish this clichéd script. After several days of polishing, she suddenly had a burst of inspiration, and her creative interest in the script was rekindled. After it was completed, everyone was impressed. Not only was the outdoor play exciting, but it also piqued their desire to perform.
Everyone was busy for almost a month. Wang Jiazhi and Xiaoshuang even went to the nearby mountains to see wild flowers, planning to put a lot of flowers on the stage.
On this day, Wang Jiazhi and Xiaoshuang finished school and went to rehearsal. Because the last scene was the climax, everyone was discussing what clothes would look best. After much searching, Wang Jiazhi decided that the white cheongsam she had made for the award ceremony was perfect, so she wore it today to let everyone see if it looked good.
She wore her hair down and tied it into a bow at the back with a pink silk ribbon, planning to put a white peony in the middle of the bow.
Xiaoshuang wore a light lake blue cheongsam with broken branches of off-white carnations on it.
Everyone waited for Zhou Minlin to come, but no one showed up after waiting for a long time.
Xiao Shuang said, "Usually you'd come early at this time, what's wrong today?"
After a while, seeing Zhou Minlin coming over in casual clothes, Meihui said, "Didn't we say we should dress up today and see what to wear? Why aren't you dressed up?"
Zhou Minlin smiled and said, "A few teachers wanted to talk to me."
Then he told everyone that the play might not be able to be performed and he had to give the venue to someone else.
Kuang Yumin's drama club also needed their own venue for an outdoor play. Normally, they would arrange a time privately and didn't need to report to the school. This time, they were going to set up an outdoor stage next to the supermarket. Everyone knew about it, but they unexpectedly went to the school and specifically requested the use of the space. After going through the official procedures and getting all the chops, it was difficult for the school's administrators to refuse them.
The others were furious when they heard this, saying angrily, "They knew we were going to do this, so they acted too. And they resorted to such despicable tactics."
Zhou Minlin comforted them, "We can't help it. The teachers don't think it's good either, but we've already promised them. We can't insist any longer. Don't be too discouraged, everyone. When we perform, we will definitely be better than them."
"But fireworks don't happen every day. We've been working hard for a month. They're so despicable. If they had known about this earlier, they could have saved us the trouble. They stole our idea and took advantage of us. It's really outrageous."
Although everyone was bitter, they couldn't do anything about it, especially out of consideration for Zhou Minlin. Zhou Minlin had suggested that they had bribed only one person in the Academic Affairs Office, who insisted that the other colleagues shouldn't fall out over such a small matter. But they also felt bad for them, so they reassured Zhou Minlin that they would let it go this time, and that the school would definitely take better care of them in the future.
If they went and made a fuss, it would make people think that Zhou Minlin had failed to appease them and had acted inappropriately.
Zhou Minlin said, "Everyone worked so hard, but it was all in vain. Especially Wang Jiazhi and Xiaoshuang."
Wang Jiazhi smiled and said, "I'm fine. Good things take time. I hope everyone doesn't take it too hard."
Xiao Shuang said, "Don't be discouraged. If you ask them to use it, then wait and see their jokes."
Meihui said, "That's right, that's right. When the time comes, tell them that since they've taken over our venue, they should treat us to a show and let us sit in the front row. I want to see what they put on. Just wait and see. They've probably made a lot of preparations this time. They'll spend a lot of money, effort, and time, only to end up making a fool of themselves."
When the others saw that those who had contributed the most said so, they stopped talking.
Zhou Minlin smiled and said, "Then we don't have to rehearse today. I'll treat you all, and we can go out for a midnight snack."
The others said that it was inappropriate for him to work so hard and then treat everyone else, but he insisted, and they all went to a small restaurant near the school to eat.
As we ate, drank and chatted, this matter became less infuriating and worrying.
After dinner, it wasn't too late yet, so Zhou Minlin asked Wang Jiazhi and Xiaoshuang to take a walk together. Zhou Minlin said, "You're dressed so beautifully, why don't you walk more?"
Wang Jiazhi said, "It's night time now, who can see us?"
The three of them chatted and Zhou Minlin mentioned some more details. It seemed that Kuang Yumin and his team were going all out this time and it cost a lot of money.
Wang Jiazhi said, "If you have the money, why not donate it? They want to be the best in everything. I don't understand, are men so obsessed with gain and loss? Or do they just like to deliberately compete with others? We just want to perform well in the things we are interested in and do our best. Why do they have to treat us as imaginary enemies and go to so much trouble to do these things?"
Zhou Minlin said, "Men don't care that much about gain or loss. He's probably used to being a tyrant and can't accept the success of others."
Xiao Shuang said, "Actually, if they really want to, they can just talk to us and we can give them the venue. Putting up this whole thing is a waste of time and money, and it's also making people hate them. If they had said it earlier, we could just give up the show. But waiting until it's become so tiring to say it now is simply hurting others and not benefiting ourselves."
Wang Jiazhi said, "Don't use your own thoughts to speculate about others. We certainly think so, but they treat us as imaginary enemies and think that there will be no agreement with us. That's why they do this."
Zhou Minlin said, "Yesterday you said you wanted to wear a white dress, and I was wondering what I should wear to match you. I thought about it all night, and when I was about to go back to clean up after class, I was called away. Now I don't have to think about it anymore."
Xiao Shuang said: "Thinking about the fact that you two have been in love for several lifetimes, it really is a special fate."
Zhou Minlin said: "You can look at the photos. When you are old, it will be a memory. We have acted out so many joys and sorrows together."
Wang Jiazhi said, "Originally, I just wanted to have something new, but I didn't expect that after all our hard work, we would be disappointed. If there's no backstage and fireworks, we might as well not perform anymore."
Wang Jiazhi didn't actually have to act, but she was actually very disappointed.
The next day, when everyone went to pack up, they found that the things they had carefully prepared were no longer useful, and they all felt lost.
