Suddenly, Chen Xiaoru sneered, pulled out a gleaming dagger from her waist, and pressed it against her snow-white neck. "Empress Dowager, you are so calculating."
Her voice was somewhat desolate. "Do you think I'm the kind of weak woman who can be manipulated by others?"
The Queen Mother narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing Chen Xiaoru's actions, and snorted coldly, "What are you doing? Are you trying to threaten me with this?"
"threaten?"
Chen Xiaoru smiled even more miserably. "How dare I, a mere commoner, threaten the Empress Dowager? It's just..."
She turned her gaze to Xuanyuan Che, tears in her eyes, "Your Majesty, you keep saying you'll protect me, but now what? You're keeping me locked up like a prisoner?"
Xuanyuan Che's expression changed and he took a step forward, "Xiao Ru..."
"Don't come over here!"
Chen Xiaoru pressed the dagger down a little further, and a trace of blood suddenly appeared on her neck. "Your Majesty, do you know? I never regretted saving you, nor did I regret having your child. But today I realized that I was naive. If I had known this earlier, I would rather have never met you."
The Queen Mother said coldly: "How dare you! How dare you threaten me with death!"
"Blackmail?" Chen Xiaoru smiled sadly. "The Queen Mother is right. I'm just a woman of unknown origin. In that case, why not let me disappear with this child to avoid polluting the royal bloodline? Anyway..."
She paused, her tone suddenly becoming sharp, "Anyway, Daxia Kingdom doesn't have an heir now, right?"
Xuanyuan Che's face turned pale in an instant. He looked at Chen Xiaoru, then at the Queen Mother, and a trace of pain flashed in his eyes.
"Xiao Ru, calm down..."
"I'm calm."
Chen Xiaoru exerted a little force on her hands, and blood began to flow out. "Since no one wants this child, let's go together."
Just as she was about to strike, Xuanyuan Che suddenly attacked, and with a burst of internal energy, he knocked the dagger away. He hugged Chen Xiaoru into his arms, his voice trembling:
"You silly woman..."
Chen Xiaoru buried herself in his arms, crying silently. Her hand tightly grasped Xuanyuan Che's sleeve, as if it was her last resort.
Xuanyuan Che hugged Chen Xiaoru tightly, feeling the trembling of her delicate body in his arms, and his heart ached. He raised his head, his eyes sweeping across everyone present like a knife, finally settling on the Queen Mother's face. His voice was low and suppressed, with a barely perceptible tremor:
"Queen Mother, do you see this? This is the result of your persecution!"
The Queen Mother's face turned pale, and her heart tightened when Xuanyuan Che's gaze pierced her. However, she still maintained her superior attitude and snorted coldly:
"How outrageous! Everything I have done is for the country and people of Daxia! How could a woman of unknown origin give birth to royal blood?"
Xuanyuan Che slowly stood up, still holding Chen Xiaoru in his arms. His stern face looked even more gloomy in the candlelight, as if covered with a layer of frost. "Unknown origin?"
The corners of his mouth curled up in a mocking arc. "Queen Dowager, you keep saying that you are doing this for the sake of the country, but now that Daxia has no successor, how do you explain it? Do you want Daxia's country to be destroyed in your hands?"
The Queen Mother was choked and speechless, her face becoming even uglier. She certainly knew the importance of the royal heir, but she could not tolerate a woman of humble origin giving birth to a prince, threatening her and the Su family's status.
The Queen Mother finally came to her senses and shouted sternly.
"Xuanyuan Che, how dare you disobey me like this! Aren't you afraid of being ridiculed by the world?"
Xuanyuan Che's voice was as cold as ice: "I am the emperor of the Great Xia Dynasty. It is not the place for others to tell me what to do! I say again, I will take care of the concubine and my child myself. No one is allowed to interfere. Otherwise, don't blame me for not considering the mother-son relationship! Now please leave!"
His words resounded with force, echoing through the empty hall and sending shivers down the spine. The Queen Mother's face paled, her lips trembling slightly, but she could utter no more. A flicker of resentment and malice flashed in her eyes.
The Queen Mother sneered, her phoenix robe fluttering as she brought a chill. Her gaze roamed over Chen Xiaoru like a venomous snake, a cold arc curling at the corner of her mouth:
"Since Your Majesty is determined to protect this woman, I have nothing to say. However, there have always been undercurrents in the harem, and some people may not be blessed enough to enjoy this favor."
Xuanyuan Che's eyes turned cold, and a fierce imperial aura emanated from his body:
"Is the Queen Mother threatening me? Or is she threatening the Concubine Chen?"
"threaten?"
The Queen Mother gently stroked the whisk in her hand, her tone tinged with sarcasm, "I am merely reminding Your Majesty that while imperial power is profound, it also requires careful consideration. Your Majesty, for a woman of unknown origin, is willing to make enemies with important officials. Such willful and reckless behavior will only chill the hearts of everyone."
As she spoke, she slowly walked out of the palace, each step seeming to weigh heavily on everyone's heart. The palace maids and eunuchs inside the palace were as silent as a mouse, not daring to look up.
Xuanyuan Che held the trembling Chen Xiaoru in his arms and whispered to comfort her: "Don't be afraid, as long as I am here, no one can hurt you."
He raised his head, staring at the Queen Mother's back with a gaze as sharp as a knife, his voice so cold it was almost freezing:
"If the Queen Mother truly cares about Daxia, she should understand what is the foundation of the country. Today, I will let the Queen Mother go because of her kindness in raising me. If there is a next time..."
The wind whistled outside the palace, and the palace lanterns swayed in the cold breeze, casting mottled shadows, just like the empress dowager's mood swings. Her figure gradually disappeared at the end of the corridor, her skirt fluttering, seeming to carry a hint of resentment and resentment. The air inside the palace seemed to freeze, and even breathing became difficult.
