The next day, Chen Xiaoru drove her car to the Angel Orphanage, carrying bags of gifts.
Angel Orphanage
Chen Xiaoru walked to the gate of the courtyard and gently pushed open the somewhat mottled wooden door with a creaky sound.
In the yard, several children were playing and laughing, their laughter like silver bells echoing in the air. Seeing Chen Xiaoru, the children were stunned for a moment, then they gathered around her, chirping like a flock of happy little birds.
"Sister Xiaoru! You're back!"
A little girl with pigtails and bright eyes was the first to rush into Chen Xiaoru's arms, hugging her thighs tightly, tilting her little face up, her face full of surprise.
"Yes, Xiaoyue, long time no see, do you miss your sister?"
Chen Xiaoru put down the shopping bag in her hand, bent down, gently pinched the little girl's chubby face, and smiled gently.
"I do! I really do want to!"
Xiaoyue nodded vigorously, put her arm around Chen Xiaoru's and rubbed it like a spoiled child.
The other children also expressed their longing for Chen Xiaoru.
"Sister Xiaoru, what delicious food did you bring?"
"Sister Xiaoru, you've become more beautiful!"
"Sister Xiaoru, when will you tell us a story again?"
Chen Xiaoru was surrounded by the children's enthusiasm, and her heart was warm. She smiled and comforted the children, pointing to the shopping bags on the ground.
"Of course I brought you some delicious food and fun things! But, let's go see Dean Mom first, okay?"
"good!"
The children answered in unison, surrounded Chen Xiaoru, and walked towards the dean's office.
The dean's office was located in a two-story building deep in the courtyard. Several roses were planted in front of the door, in full bloom, and the air was filled with a faint floral fragrance. Chen Xiaoru knocked gently on the door and heard a kind voice from inside: "Come in."
When you open the door, you will see a simple but warm room.
Inside the room, a gray-haired old woman sat at a desk, wearing reading glasses and carefully looking through documents. She wore a washed-out blue gown, and her face was marked by the traces of time, but her eyes were bright and full of wisdom and kindness.
She is the director of Angel Orphanage and the person Chen Xiaoru respects most - Director Li.
"Dean Mom!"
Chen Xiaoru quickly walked up to Dean Li and shouted excitedly.
Dean Li looked up and saw Chen Xiaoru, a surprised smile on her face. She put down the documents in her hand, stood up tremblingly, and came forward:
"Xiao Ru, why didn't you tell me you were coming back so I could be prepared?"
She took Chen Xiaoru's hand, looked her up and down, her eyes full of concern.
"You've become thinner and darker. It must be hard working outside, right?"
Chen Xiaoru's nose felt sore and her eyes became moist. She shook her head and choked up.
"It's not hard, Dean Mama, I'm fine. It's just... I missed you a little."
She threw herself into Dean Li's arms like a child and hugged her tightly.
Dean Li patted Chen Xiaoru's back gently and smiled lovingly:
"Silly child, come back if you miss home. This will always be your home."
She pulled Chen Xiaoru to sit on the sofa and poured her a glass of water.
"Hurry up and drink some water. You look so hot and sweaty."
Chen Xiaoru took the cup and drank half of it in one breath before she felt better. She put the cup down and pointed to the door.
"Dean, I brought some gifts for the children. Please take a look."
Dean Li followed Chen Xiaoru's gaze and noticed several large shopping bags piled at the door. She smiled and scolded:
"You kid, just come back, why did you bring so many things? You're wasting money again."
Chen Xiaoru stuck out her tongue and smiled playfully:
"It's not much, not much, just things the children like. Dean Mama, please don't worry about the money. I have money now and can take care of you and the children."
Dean Li nodded with satisfaction:
"You've made it big. Dean Mama is happy for you. But, you have to spend your money wisely. Don't work too hard on yourself."
"I understand, Mother Dean."
Chen Xiaoru smiled sweetly, then stood up, took out the items in the shopping bag one by one, and placed them on the table.
"Wow! So many toys!"
“And snacks!”
"Sister Xiaoru is so nice!"
Outside the door, the children could no longer contain their curiosity and secretly crowded at the door. When they saw the gifts on the table, they immediately burst into cheers.
Dean Li looked at the children's excitement and smiled. She turned to Chen Xiaoru and said:
"Xiao Ru, play with the children for a while. I'll go to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Let's celebrate tonight."
"Okay, Dean Mom, I'll help you!"
Chen Xiaoru immediately stood up and wanted to help.
Dean Li waved his hand and refused with a smile:
"No, no, just play with the kids. There's a lot of fumes in the kitchen, don't get your clothes dirty."
Chen Xiaoru couldn't persuade Dean Li, so she gave up. She walked to the door, beckoned the children in, and then handed out the gifts to them one by one. The children cheered and jumped for joy as they received the gifts, their faces filled with happy smiles.
Xiaoyue held the furry little bear doll in her arms, caressing it lovingly with a satisfied smile on her face. Several boys gathered around, excitedly assembling educational building blocks, occasionally letting out bursts of exclamations.
Chen Xiaoru watched the children having fun, and her heart was filled with joy. She walked over to Xiaoyue, squatted down, and asked gently:
