Chapter 537 Extra (37) Caught Off Guard

Shen Xingzhi imagined several bad outcomes.

Rong Yan glanced at her best friend: "After spending so much time with me, have you become a drama queen? Didn't you always tell me not to think too much about the consequences, because thinking too much will only scare you and you won't get anything done?"

"Okay, I'll find something to do to distract myself." Shen Xingzhi knew she was wasting her time internally.

Yu Wenhao left the airport and rushed home without delay.

Shen Xingzhi didn't want her mother to know she was pregnant, so Yu Wenhao was thinking about how to make sure his mother wouldn't notice anything unusual.

While playing on her phone, Yu's mother waited for her son. When she saw that her phone was about to run out of battery, she sent Yu Wenhao a message. After learning that her son would be home in ten minutes, she felt relieved and continued playing.

Yu Wenhao jogged up the elevator with his bag on his back.

After coming out, I saw my mother sitting on the ground.

"Mom," the man called out.

Mrs. Yu looked up and smiled, replying, "You're finally back, Wenhao. This time you have to give me a key so I can come in by myself and you won't have to come back."

Upon hearing this, Yu Wenhao's fingertips trembled slightly. Although he could understand his mother's request, he couldn't give her the key. His mother and wife had argued so much before, and his mother hadn't contributed a single penny to this house. It was his and Shen Xingzhi's little family, and Shen Xingzhi had contributed the majority of the money, making her the true mistress of the house. If he gave the key to his mother, it would be awkward for her to just open the door and come in without saying hello every time.

"Mom, couldn't you have called ahead before you came? I could have picked you up at the station, and we could have made preparations in advance, such as where to stay and how to arrange things, instead of always doing this, making a surprise visit and catching us off guard." Yu Wenhao had told his mother countless times not to always act on a whim and come over without consulting anyone.

"What you're doing is no different from checking up on me. I'm married and have my own family. You're my mother, but you should still have boundaries." Yu Wenhao's words implied that he wouldn't give his mother the key.

"Sense of boundaries? What does that mean?" Yu's mother didn't understand.

“A sense of boundaries means that even if you are my mother, you should still tell me in advance if you come to my house,” Yu Wenhao explained.

"It's my son's house, why do I have to complain when I come here? Why don't you say anything when you go home?"

“Why didn’t I say that? When have I ever not called you in advance when I’m going home? Ever since I started college, if I don’t call, will you prepare my favorite foods in advance? Will you clean my room in advance? Will you leave the other end of the phone at home waiting for me?” Yu Wenhao gave examples.

“But I don’t need you to prepare anything when I come over. You can’t cook, but I can come directly to your house and cook the meal as soon as you get home. Isn’t that great?” Mrs. Yu was completely hypocritical.

"Mom, what if I go on a business trip? Xingzhi is always away on business trips too. When neither of us is around, who will you cook for? Will you just throw it away?"

“There’s a refrigerator, and by the way, because you’re always away on business trips, you have to give me a key, otherwise I won’t be able to get in the house.” Mrs. Yu was completely unreasonable.

“Mom, you’ve come all this way, I don’t want to start arguing with you the moment we meet. I won’t give you the keys. Xingzhi bought this house, and you know better than I do that you didn’t contribute to our wedding.” Yu Wenhao insisted on his position.

"What do you mean? I raised you all these years, you're an adult now, you're earning your own money, and I still have to give you money? You won't let me come here if you don't give me money? You ate my food and lived in my house when you were little, did I say anything to you?" Mrs. Yu didn't expect her son to say such things, she threw her luggage on the ground and jumped up in a rage.

"After marrying Shen Xingzhi, you've forgotten your roots, haven't you? I, an old woman from the countryside, am not worthy to come to the city to see you. Even in my own son's home, I have to ask for your permission before I can come. If word gets out, the whole village will laugh me to death." Mother Yu became extreme again.

"Mom, how can you be so unreasonable? I didn't say you couldn't come, I just said to let me know in advance." Yu Wenhao frowned.

As expected, her mother was just like before. If Shen Xingzhi heard what her mother said, wouldn't she cause trouble again?

"So that's what you mean? You won't give me the key, you want me to tell you in advance, but you just don't want me to come over. Fine, I'll go back now." Mrs. Yu picked up her luggage and was about to leave.

Yu Wenhao stopped his mother: "Can you please stop making a scene? I'm just getting better, are you starting to pressure me again?" His voice suddenly became louder.

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Yu froze instantly; her son's shout had startled her.

"Wenhao, are you taking it out on me?" After a while, Yu's mother came to her senses and asked.

“I didn’t yell at you, and I wouldn’t dare, but could you please stop making a scene, Mom? I’ve finally managed to get my mindset back on track. Do you want me to become depressed again?” Yu Wenhao asked, knowing that only by saying this could he stop his mother from going her own way.

After saying that, Yu Wenhao subconsciously patted his head, pretending to be uncomfortable.

As expected, Mrs. Yu became nervous. She pulled her son's hand away and said, "Okay, stop hitting your head. I don't want the key anymore."

Thinking of Yu Wenhao's previous situation, she finally compromised.

"Thank you, Mom," Yu Wenhao said at the opportune moment.

“We haven’t seen each other for months. Let’s not talk about unhappy things. I brought you some groceries. You must be out of food in your fridge. I’ll cook this afternoon. Tell Xingzhi to come back early so we can eat at home today.” Yu’s mother had traveled a long way but didn’t want to rest for a moment.

She glanced around the living room and found it quite messy: "Let me tidy up first."

"Mom, don't rush. You haven't had lunch yet, have you? I haven't either. Let's go out for lunch and then we can get back to work this afternoon." Yu Wenhao pulled his mother downstairs.

There's a room in the house that's prepared for the baby who's about to be born, and Yu Wenhao has to lock it in the afternoon so his mother can't see it.

When Yu's mother heard that her son hadn't eaten, she was going to cook at home, but Yu Wenhao said he was too hungry and couldn't wait, so he went downstairs to eat a bowl of noodles. So Yu's mother had no choice but to go downstairs with him.

The two finished eating quickly, and as soon as Yu's mother returned, she started to get busy.

While his mother wasn't looking, Yu Wenhao locked the children's room and roughly checked the outside. If there were any forgotten baby items, he had already thought of how to explain it. He said he was going to give them to Fu Yunlei and the others, but he bought the wrong things.

Yu Wenhao had to go to the company to report on the situation in the afternoon and couldn't stay home to look after his mother.

Mrs. Yu said, "You go about your business, I'll be fine on my own."

When Yu Wenhao arrived at the garage, he called Shen Xingzhi. Shen Xingzhi breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that the children's room was locked.

She said she would go back with Rong Yan that night.

He then asked Yu Wenhao if he could say he was on a business trip and would be staying at Rong Yan's house that night.

Yu Wenhao agreed with his wife's suggestion, and he would explain to his mother.

Back in Xingda, the man temporarily forgot about his mother at home and focused intently on his work.

After cleaning the living room, Mrs. Yu intended to clean her son's room, but then she remembered her son's words: the room is a private space for the two of them, and it's inconvenient for her to go in. So she closed the door and decided to clean the other rooms instead, only to find that one of the rooms was locked.
