Chapter 102 A Little Bit of Ambiguity

Teach him how to do it?

What should we teach him?

Should I teach him how to make pearl bracelets or necklaces?

Bai Nuo looked at the purse that Hu Mingmei had placed on the table as if it were a bomb, while Hu Mingmei's gaze was fixed on her like a remote control.

"Is there a problem?" Hu Mingmei asked, his voice light, yet it still lingered in Bai Nuo's ears, giving Bai Nuo a headache.

If she said she had difficulties, why did she give the gift in the first place? She said she didn't have any difficulties, but she still didn't want others to know what was going on.

Why would she give this as a gift?

Why not just send a small return gift?

This is just asking for trouble.

Hu Mingmei stared intently at her, and Bai Nuo forced herself to say, "It's not that it's inconvenient, but you have to promise me you won't tell anyone about these things!"

Hu Mingmei nodded and said with a smile, "Don't worry, I won't compete with you for business."

Bai Nuo really felt that Hu Mingmei's smile was meant to mock her.

"Wait a minute!" Bai Nuo got up and went back behind the counter to get a rope, a hammer, nails, and other things. Then she walked to Hu Mingmei's side and said softly, "Come with me!"

Then he went up first.

Hu Mingmei then got up and followed.

"You've done a great job here!" Following behind Bai Nuo, Hu Mingmei looked around at the environment on both sides of the stairs, and felt more admiration for Bai Nuo.

Hu Mingmei knew the Bai family's circumstances. Such a large shop could only have been acquired by Bai Nuo on his own. He didn't believe that Bai's father would give Bai Nuo money.

If this kind of father were willing to give her money, he wouldn't be dragging a strange man into ruining his daughter's reputation.

Bai Nuo turned around and smiled. Hu Mingmei looked at Bai Nuo and said, "I'm serious."

"How does it compare to the one in the capital?" Bai Nuo couldn't help but ask, always happy to receive praise.

"That's about it!"

"Oh!" Bai Nuo nodded, quite satisfied with the evaluation.

It's not too good, but it's not too bad either; there's still room for improvement.

As they walked up to the third floor, Bai Nuo asked Hu Mingmei to sit down first, and couldn't help but ask, "Your illness, is it asthma?"

Hu Mingmei was taken aback, then nodded. "What's wrong?"

Bai Nuo said, "Wait a moment!" Then she moved everything on the table in front of her to another table, far away from Hu Mingmei. Standing to the side, Bai Nuo said to Hu Mingmei, "Wait for me, I'll be right up."

Then, amidst Hu Mingmei's hesitant expression, he ran downstairs and quickly came back up, carrying a pot of tea and a plate of snacks. "You should sit here. I'll get some for you. If you're bored, you can drink some water and eat some melon seeds. This is very dusty, and I'm afraid it won't be good for you."

Looking at the things on the table, and then at the sincerity in Bai Nuo's eyes, Hu Mingmei suddenly felt very uncomfortable.

How long? How long has it been since anyone cared about him like this?

"Is there a problem?" Bai Nuo looked at Hu Mingmei, who hadn't said anything but was just staring at her, and suddenly felt like she was meddling in other people's business.

Or perhaps Hu Mingmei misunderstood.

"Ah!" Bai Nuo instinctively wanted to explain, "I didn't mean anything by it, and it's not that I don't want you to see it, I just think that if you have asthma, you should be more careful." She really didn't mean Hu Mingmei to be weak and frail.

“No!” Hu Mingmei shook his head. “I’ve been poisoned before.”

"Huh?" Bai Nuo was stunned for a moment. Why would Hu Mingmei suddenly say this to her? For a moment, Bai Nuo wanted to comfort Hu Mingmei, but when the words reached her lips, she couldn't say them. All her words turned into one word, "Oh!"

After saying that, I realized I might have been a bit cold-hearted, so I quickly added, "I understand."

But after saying it, I felt it would have been better not to say it at all.

Hu Mingmei chuckled lightly, "You don't need to feel sorry for me, I'm used to it."

Bai Nuo nodded and didn't say anything more. She sat down at the entrance of the corridor. Hu Mingmei kept watching Bai Nuo. After Bai Nuo sat down, she took out a hammer and nails and carefully tapped them onto the pearl.

The girl lowered her head, and he could only see her profile, her soft facial features, and her fair skin...

Hu Mingmei quickly sat down, picked up her teacup, and looked away, no longer daring to gaze.

Half a purse of pearls—not a lot, but not a little either. Even though Bai Nuo had processed many pearls this way before, it still took a considerable amount of time to process all of them.

"Tired?" After drilling all the pearls, Bai Nuo moved her neck uncomfortably, making a cracking sound, accompanied by a low groan.

Bai Nuo was startled and suddenly looked up, only to see Hu Mingmei standing beside her, looking at the pearls on the table.

The silver-white purse she gave Hu Mingmei was placed at the bottom, with all the pearls on top. Hu Mingmei was looking at the pearls, but as soon as he spoke, Bai Nuo looked up at him.

Hu Mingmei glanced at Bai Nuo and said softly, "Your neck is cracking, are you alright?"

Bai Nuo smiled and put all the pearls into her pouch. "I'm used to it. It's fine as soon as I move them. I'm not uncomfortable. Wait a moment, I'll go wash them all."

"Let's go together!" Hu Mingmei said calmly.

Hu Mingmei wanted to come along, and Bai Nuo didn't refuse him. The two of them came down the stairs from the back and went straight to the yard. In the corner of the yard, the black horse was leisurely grazing. When it saw Bai Nuo coming, it snorted as a greeting. Bai Nuo went to the well, took a bucket, threw it into the well, filled it with water, and prepared to pick it up.
