"And what about him?" Bai Nuo knew that Hu Mingmei might have used unknown methods or administered special drugs to Zhang Jingwen, so Bai Nuo didn't doubt Xia Donglai's words. Since they dared to do it, Zhang Jingwen couldn't escape, but...
"Where is he?" Bai Nuo pointed to Bai Dalin across from her. Zhang Jingwen might become stupid, but this person is normal. If the news leaks out from him, things will get complicated.
Xia Donglai smiled and said, "Please take a look, young lady!"
Xia Donglai gestured for Bai Nuo to look at Bai Dalin's facial features. "Although this man is extremely wicked, he is still the girl's father, so we can't go too far. Let's just seal up all his facial features, and he will definitely not find out about us!"
Upon closer inspection, Bai Nuo realized that it was true. They had been standing there for so long, and Bai Dalin was still making pointless noises, not noticing that there was anyone else there. Wasn't it because he couldn't hear or see that he was doing this?
Bai Nuo had no interest in these dramas, and even less did she want to see Zhang Jingwen's resentful little eyes; after all, it was all her own fault.
"After you're done, send her back properly!" Bai Nuo said indifferently, not wanting to look anymore, and turned to leave the secret room.
With Lu Ying overseeing San Niang's Cloth Shop, Bai Nuo basically didn't think there would be any problems. Although Lu Ying had never done business before, Jiang Qiao'er was someone who had been in business since childhood. Jiang Qiao'er usually didn't talk much, but she did what she was supposed to do in the cloth shop. She could handle things on her own. Having Lu Ying oversee it was just to prevent anyone from taking the opportunity to cause trouble.
So Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei returned to the Duobao Pavilion.
Looking at the goods displayed in the several counters, Bai Nuo was filled with worry. It was supposed to be a curio cabinet, but now, because of Zhang Jingwen's commotion, no one was coming anymore.
Not long after they entered the Treasure Pavilion, the model that Bai Nuo had hired arrived at the entrance. The girl looked to be only fifteen or sixteen years old, with a bright and beautiful appearance and dressed elegantly. She was wearing newly released earrings—given to her by Bai Nuo when the new products were launched, but the rumors started so suddenly that Bai Nuo forgot to take them back.
"Shopkeeper, do I still have to stand at the door today?" The girl asked, seeing that there was no one in the shop, just like yesterday.
Bai Nuo promised to let her work here for three days. She could earn one or two taels of silver in three days, which was equivalent to her mother's wages for almost half a month. She really wanted to work, but seeing that there was no one in the shop, she was a little scared, afraid that Bai Nuo would not let her stand here anymore.
She was even more afraid that Bai Nuo would think that it was because of her that the treasure pavilion was empty, and therefore she would be angry with her and stop paying her wages.
"You don't need to come today!" Bai Nuo said wearily, looking at her. "There's hardly anyone here, go back!"
Hearing Bai Nuo's words, the girl became even more uneasy. "Then..." She wanted to say something, but didn't. "Then I'll give these earrings and clothes back to you!"
Bai Nuo nodded. Compared to a pile of goods, a piece of clothing was just a small matter. Bai Nuo didn't care much about such a small thing.
"You can change your clothes on the second floor, go ahead!" Bai Nuo said, seeing the girl still standing there timidly.
After bowing to Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei, the girl tiptoed upstairs to the second floor. When she came down, she was carrying clothes and earrings.
"Shopkeeper, here are your clothes and earrings back..." She had agreed to help Bai Nuo attract some customers in three days, but now she hadn't attracted a single customer and they had all left early. She was too embarrassed to ask Bai Nuo for her wages, but seeing how upset Bai Nuo was, she couldn't help but say, "Shopkeeper, these things are all very beautiful, there will definitely be customers who buy them!"
"I'll give all of these to you," Bai Nuo originally wanted to take them all back, but seeing the girl's bright, childlike eyes, Bai Nuo couldn't help but say, "I haven't had my first customer yet. Since you think they're nice, I'll give them all to you. How about you be my first customer?"
"No, no, no!" The girl quickly put the clothes and earrings on the counter, shaking her head repeatedly. "These things are too valuable, I can't accept them."
Although she had never seen much of the world and never owned such beautiful clothes, she still knew that the earrings were made of gold and that the dress cost more than ten taels of silver.
She did nothing, so how could she accept such a valuable gift? Her mother always said, "One should not accept a reward without merit," and "Don't be greedy for small gains."
"I won't pay you your wages!" Bai Nuo said calmly. "Don't feel uneasy, I plan to use these things as payment!"
"That won't do either!" The girl kept refusing, backing away repeatedly. "That's more than ten times my wages! I didn't do anything, I can't accept it!"
They won't take advantage of any opportunity anymore. What's wrong with these people these days?
Bai Nuo suddenly felt extremely tired. She picked up the earrings, walked up to the girl, and personally put them on the girl's earlobes. She took a step back and smiled slightly, "They say that pretty girls have great luck. You should wear these; maybe they can bring me some good luck."
As she spoke, she took out a pair of earrings and a bracelet from the counter, put them on her wrist and earlobes, and then handed the clothes to the girl, saying, "This is none of your business, go back!"
The girl stared at Bai Nuo for a moment before taking the clothes and turning to leave.
